Today we have spread 1,200 tonnes of salt on primary routes. Each gritter driver has been driving for 10 hrs & combined they've covered 6,000 miles. Despite this they are on standby overnight & gritting again from 7am in case we get a little snow as dawn breaks

we are working hard clearing priority routes, gritters & snow ploughs have been out several times already & over 1000 tonnes of salt has been put down since midnight, always drive to the conditions & remember salt may take longer to be effective in snowy weather
Our gritters have been out 3 times overnight, spreading 900 tonnes of salt on Hertfordshire's roads. Please take care this morning - gritted roads can still have a covering of snow and driving conditions may still be trickier than usual. Here are our gritters going out at 4am.

We usually only tell you when we're gritting or are on standby but after the recent weather, we thought we'd let you know NO gritting tonight 👍
A big thank you to our gritting crews who went out on 22 runs between 07 and 18 December to grit the roads and help keep Hertfordshire safe, that’s approx. 40% of the overall number of runs we usually make in an entire “typical” winter season.
Our gritting crews were out at 1pm and we're expecting another extremely cold night so we'll be back out from 7pm and then again at 4am to help with the risk of Black Ice. Travel safely out there!

Some heavy snow moving across Hertfordshire, falling on some cold road surfaces. We've been out at 7.00pm and are ready to go again at 11.00pm, and will be on standby for another outing in the early hours.
#GritterTwitter
For those who are asking; we gritted our main roads at 1pm ahead of the forecast snow. This helps stop ice forming and freezing onto the road but it doesn't melt falling snow as it lands - it takes time to mix with the grit & cars driving over it help with this
#GritterTwitter
snow showers still lingering in Hertfordshire and taking longer to clear than forecast. Our gritters will be going out on an extra run at 11pm on primary routes in addition to the one posted earlier at 3am. Gritters will also be ploughing where needed.
#GritterTwitter
with snow flurries continuing tonight our gritters are currently out on their third run of the day, we were also out at 2am and 3pm. Today our drivers have driven around 4,500 miles and spread 1,000 tonnes of salt on Hertfordshire's precautionary salting routes.
Morning Hertfordshire, Ross in ITCC this morning. Lots of snowfall last night however looks like our gritters have done a fantastic job as main roads are looking great. Please still take extra care though.

Snow is forecast for tomorrow morning and may settle in some places so our gritters will be going out again at 6am tomorrow before the main snowfall is forecast to top up the salt they spread earlier this evening.
