Today we have spread 1,200 tonnes of salt on primary routes. Each gritter driver has been driving for 10 hrs & combined they've covered 6,000 miles. Despite this they are on standby overnight & gritting again from 7am in case we get a little snow as dawn breaks #GritterTWitter

#OurDay Meet Paul Allum, Emergency Response Officer. He attends emergency call-outs, such a fallen trees to keep our roads safe. In his spare time Paul and his wife run a non-profit organisation called Hitchin Squirrel Rescue @AllumPaul where they rescue sick grey squirrels!

A big thank you to our gritting crews who went out on 22 runs between 07 and 18 December to grit the roads and help keep Hertfordshire safe, that’s approx. 40% of the overall number of runs we usually make in an entire “typical” winter season.

It will thaw for a little while today but then turn cold again at dusk. Our gritters will be out from 4pm this afternoon helping keep the main roads clear. Untreated roads will remain icey and it will be very frosty again overnight. Stay at home unless you need to travel.

It’s not just motorised users that need diversions! The #A602 roadworks are expected to last 18months so to support active travel in the area we have put cycle diversion signs in place. Local cyclists can follow these routes through #Sacombe Park to avoid the roadworks. #StaySafe

#StormCiara kept us busy all day and night yesterday. We received 632 reports of fallen trees and vegetation, however our contractor @Ringway_UK dealt with emergencies as soon as possible to help keep the network clear.
