Warming shelters should not have no drugs/no alcohol rules in these temperatures. People will die frozen to the sidewalk rather than going in to warm up and risk getting sick. People living with addiction are still people, still loved, and still valued.

So many people refuse to acknowledge that a lot of time children’s first bullies are their parents. When you bully a child you are no longer their safe place. Parents need to take responsibility to work through their own trauma so that it isn’t projected onto the little ones.
