Why is there so much concern regarding sea level rise? One reason is that people continue to flock to the coastline. Many coastal counties from Texas to the Mid-Atlantic have seen >25% of their housing unit stock built since 2000. NOAA SLR Report:

It's happening fast folks. Winds already at 60 mph. Convection firing near the center. Once this storm clears Cuba it will quickly organize and rapidly intensify. A cat 3 is forecast... but prepare for a stronger storm. #Ida

#HurricanIan is now a Cat 5 #hurricane after rapid intensification in last 24 hour… #climatechange will cause more rapidly intensifying storms, that results in less time for #Preparedness . This is a nightmare for forecasters and decision makers….

Driving through flooded water is extremely dangerous. Just 12 inches of rushing water can carry away most cars, and 2 feet can carry away SUVs and trucks. Avoid driving into water at all costs! #FloodSafety #flxw

The results imply that seasonal forecasts of TC activity metrics such as ACE and PDI, to some extent, can be considered as a proxy for forecasting economic losses from TCs.

@Nicole_Boothman @Nature_NPJ @KKornhuber @wxpizza @columbiaclimate @LamontEarth @ASFPMfoundation @FloodDataCity @NOAA Very interesting! Thank you for sharing this. This is what we addressed here. In 2021, there were some rainfalls that set a new record. With a warming climate, those events may increase in frequency and intensity. So, specialized adaptation measures are needed.
