I just filed to run for the Kansas State Senate, District 2. 🌟
I am proud of all the work I have accomplished in the House, and I am excited for this new opportunity to serve our community! 🌻
Chip in here! -
The newest elected member of the Kansas House of Representatives. An incredible honor. Thank you Lawrence and Baldwin City - I will not let you down!

Kansas, it’s up to us to protect the rights of birthing peoples. I NEED you all to vote NO August 2nd, to continue the protections we have as birthing peoples. A choice that can mean life, death, or criminalization is what’s at risk.

Thank you Kansas!!! We did it! We protected the right to an abortion for all Kansans. I’m so thankful for the Haswood for Kansas team who worked tirelessly canvassing, phone banking, and educating.
#ksleg
What a surreal, incredible feeling to check your own name on a ballot. I hope other young
#Native
leaders will see my example and decide to do the same.
#ksleg
Thank you to my constituents of KS HD 10 for sending me back to Topeka. Your support carries me to keep up the good fight and to get things done. Ad Astra Per Aspera!

Today my friends Rep. Christina Haswood and Rep. Ponka-We Victors and I were sworn in. I'm looking forward to representing the 84th District and serving in the Kansas House with these two beautiful young ladies.

First time in KU history that a tipi has been put up directly on campus. Great job
@FNSAatKU
on advocating for this visible representation that WE ARE STILL HERE. Also a thank you to
@HaskellU
students who helped.
AUGUST 2, 2022 KANSAS, vote NO on the abortion ballot initiative! Banning abortions does not stop abortions. The poor and us colored folks will suffer. I’m furious.

The Supreme Court has voted to strike down Roe v. Wade, according to an initial draft majority opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito and obtained by POLITICO.
“We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled,” Alito writes.
I officially voted NO to SB 83.
Public funds should not go to private institutions who get to pick and choose who they accept in. Not everyone has the privilege of the freedom of school choice.

I just met the iconic Jess Piper (
@piper4missouri
) !!! She spotted little ole me in the crowd right before her speech! Thank you for your encouraging words today, a lot of us needed to hear them. 🫶🏽
Awesome fundraiser
@DgCoDems
!
Thank you
@GovLauraKelly
for this veto. This hateful bill at its core is discrimination, bullying, and trans erasure. To our trans folks, we love you and you have many people in the
#ksleg
fighting for you.
I am ready to help sustain her veto in the House!
Gov. Laura Kelly for the third straight year has vetoed legislation that would ban transgender girls from playing school sports with cisgender girls.

I’m happy to announce that I have filed for re-election for KS HD 10! There’s still work we need to get done in the

& I hope I’ve earned your support for another term.
Can you donate $25 today towards my re-election?

Look. As a
#ksleg
elected official, I don’t do this job to become rich. I have no spouse or family wealth to lean on. I have a second job.
Last year, money was tight and I found myself at my local food pantry.
All we’re asking for is a livable wage.
With an average pre-tax salary of $29,000, the Kansas Legislature is one of the lowest paid in the U.S.
Capitol insiders told
@KatieJ_Bernard
that the pay prioritizes independently wealthy, retired candidates over younger and low-income reps.

Hi. I’m Kansas state Representative Christina Haswood of the House District 10. This is your annual reminder to not wear Native American attire as your Halloween costume.
#NotYourCostume
As a state legislator, I should not have the ability to take YOUR choice away to an abortion. Vote NO August 2nd will ensure the
#ksleg
does not have that power or ability.

I am extremely honored to have been voted into our House Democrat Leadership as Policy Chair. I look forward to creating a strong Democratic policy message and assist our caucus members when needed. Let’s get to work!

Veto Session status 👎🏽
We have overridden horrible anti-abortion bills, anti-Immigration targeting our Hispanic & South American folks, now debating HB 2094, that will put MORE barriers to SNAP and efforts to get Kansans food assistance!
#ksleg
Thank you, Lawrence and Baldwin City. I am so honored you have placed your trust in me to be your voice in the Kansas Legislature, and I will work hard every single day to continue to earn it.
#ksleg
This result means so much to me as an Indigenous women where the odds of maternal health care is stacked against us. To ban a medical choice that can mean life or death, was taking it too far. I’m glad my fellow Kansans agreed.
Thank you 💛
‼️‼️KANSAS - August 2, 2022‼️‼️
We must show up to the polls to vote down the ban on abortion in the state of Kansas. Abortion rights are human rights! Abortion bans are discriminatory to BIPOC and the working class. Start making your voting plans now.

BREAKING: The Supreme Court has not responded to our emergency request to block Texas’ radical new 6-week abortion ban, SB8. The law now takes effect.
Access to almost all abortion has just been cut off for millions of people. The impact will be immediate and devastating.
I'm a 27 y/o Native woman serving in the Kansas House. Please take a second to hear my story.
If you like it, please help me win the
@emilyslist
Gabrielle Giffords Rising Star Award by voting for me here:
I promise I’m not avoiding your event. I’m just super broke right now, in between jobs, because I’m a state legislator who gets paid $88/per session day and a per diem of $151/day. My out of session pay has been about $183/biweekly.

needs to raise pay for us common folks.
Yá'át'ééh abiní (Good Morning). Leadership elections today and first half of orientation. Thank you District 10 for letting me be your voice. Let’s get to work.

Thank you to the voters of KS HD 10 for putting your trust in me to be YOUR voice in Topeka. I will continue to fight tooth and nail for our values!

Thank you again
@SecDebHaaland
for coming out to the powwow and being the leader for the people. She was kind enough to meet shí masaní & get a photo with us and my mother. We pray for strength for you as you continue on this tough journey.

I’m excited to vote for the legalization of medical marijuana today! I would much rather prefer the full legalization for cannabis but this is a good first step!
Thank you District 10! After the official filing deadline, I do not have an opponent for the 2022 election. I have loved being your representative for the past two years and am excited to see what the next two years bring us!

Division vote on SB 83 vouchers, 61-59. The bill will need 63 votes on final action to be approved. Thank you to legislators who voted "No." This is bad for students & taxpayers & is un-Kansas in holding special ed funding hostage

Earlier this week, I announced my candidacy for Kansas State Senate! Today, I wanted to speak more to why I made the decision to serve our community in this way, but for me it all comes down to what our community deserves: a voice and a leader that reflects them!

Today I attended the Moms Demand Action Rally to End Gun Violence in Kansas City.
Kansas City is close to home, and so much of what happens in Kansas City directly impact us here in Lawrence.

159 years ago today, 38 Dakota men were hung in the largest mass hanging in United States history.
38 men hung simultaneously, the day after xmas, with over 4000 settlers watching and celebrating.
These men were from my tribe. These men were my grandfathers.
This week, I received my first COVID vaccine from Haskell Health Center which is an Indian Health Services (IHS) clinic here in District 10. The IHS is federally funded and is on a different vaccine process than the state and county.
Today we celebrate
#IndigenousPeoplesDay
where the resiliency and prayers of our ancestors have carried us here. I was glad to join the City of Lawrence and some of our Indigenous leaders for the proclamation reading last week.
I have about $27k in undergrad student loan debt. I was the first in my immediate family to go to a state college so we had no idea how to pay for my school beyond federal loans. I don’t come from generational wealth - this is a small win for the working class.
#CancelStudentDebt
Today, I testified in favor of HB2006, a bill I’m cosponsoring to replace Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples Day in Kansas. (We are asked to remove our masks while testifying.)

If you’re freaking out about a gender neutral restroom at KC airport, you can literally walk a few more steps and find a men and women’s restroom. 😑 let people use the facilities in peace.
Today I had to hear “this Indian boarding school isn’t like the bad ones” and “the Indians had a choice of manual labor but not that kind of labor!”.
No such thing. We continue to fight off the attempts to sugarcoat history ✊🏽
For now, boba 🧋

My rent for a two-bedroom apartment in Lawrence, KS, is $924. How is a $600 stimulus check going to help me when I’ll be out of work for 10 days at the end of the month?
Thank you to everyone back home who marched today for the people with a uterus to have a choice. Don’t forget KS, August 2, 2022, vote NO on the abortion amendment.

I was really happy to be reminded that there were a lot of people swearing into various offices this week by this TikTok from

that, yes, absolutely made me cry.
Congratulations to our fellow and Kansas State Representative Christina Haswood (Diné) on your re-election! Kansas is fortunate to have your leadership in the State House.

My heart is breaking today for the victims of today’s violence in Kansas City.
Thank you to the first responders for their quick action, my thoughts are with everyone as the situation unfolds.
I’ll say it again, we need gun reform - NOW!

SB 208 discriminates against trans-gender girl athletes. The bill passed out of the Senate education committee today and is headed for the Senate floor.
As a former student-athlete, I assure you this is not an issue. There’s no place for hate in our state.

Many might not know but there are many cultures, like mine, Diné (Navajo), which observing the eclipse is not encouraged. Following these teachings can be hard when mainstream media and corporations encourage this viewing.

I am proud to be named a Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate. When I was 21, my university experienced a shooting threat. I saw panic race through my peers. I've always been an advocate of common sense gun policy and I will continue to do so in the state senate.
I’ve been making blue corn mush for breakfast for about a week straight! Blue corn mush is an Indigenous dish commonly known from the southwest Tribes and always a breakfast item at shí masaní place on the rez. Also it’s high in calcium 💪🏽 Thank you

Got my

This morning I got to remind Rick Santorum that Native American culture and Tribal Sovereignty is still here and should be given so much more thought when you're trying to lobby legislation dealing with our U.S. Constitution.

After a quick 3 hour nap, I had the absolute honor of talking to Broken Arrow and Hillcrest STUCO elected officials! They got to share some concerns and asked me all the questions they wanted to know about being a

Domestic terrorists and white supremacists. Of course, if this were a BLM protest or Water Protectors from Standing Rock, this would have gone a lot different but glad to hear our people on the Hill are safe.
