Our incredibly talented student Maakare Dyer has co-written a book "Girlhood Unfiltered". It is a collection of essays written by young girls of colour to celebrate ethnicities and amplify their voices and visibility in all facets of life.

A big shoutout to Y7 student Tyler Pierre-Brown, who last month competed in the World Cheerleading Championships out in Florida. Not only did he compete but he, and Team England, won gold and were crowned World Champions!
On Tuesday 13th December, 38 students from all year groups performed in the Winter Hootenanny, showing off their talents as musicians, actors, and comedians.
On 23 May, HABS had it’s first chess tournament. After heated competition, we went from 18 to 2 finalists-Elvin & Nikanor in Y9. Elvin became our first ever Chess Master! The competition proved popular, so expect more tournaments in the future! Well Done Elvin!

On 8 March students from across Y10,12 and 13 listened to an Embracing Equity talk from a law firm called HFW. The Embracing Equity theme aimed to explain the difference between 'equity' and 'equality' and to highlight that equality of opportunity is not always enough on its own.
Y12 students visited Octopus Energy and engaged with group tasks to learn more about specific job roles within the energy and STEM careers sector. The students then toured the offices and met staff within the different teams, followed by a Q&A session.

Yesterday we had the first athletics competition of the year, with the Y9 and Y10 teams competing in the Wandsworth Athletics Competition. Well done to all students!
Shoutout to Y11 student, Omari Jackson Whyte who has been selected to progress from the Harlequins U16 team into their U17's team. Omari has done exceptionally well to get himself into the Harlequins rugby set up, and we wish him all the best as he continues on his rugby journey.
Congratulations to the incredible Y7's who participated in the Harris Spelling Bee! Your resilience and outstanding sportsmanship throughout the 5 challenging rounds are truly commendable. You've not only showcased your spelling prowess but also set a shining example of teamwork!

Simon James Green was with us today for an assembly and comedy writing workshops with Y9 students. Simon’s books are a great mix of comedy and real-life issues many focused on LGBTQI+ characters and promote anti-discrimination and acceptance of all people.

On Friday 28th April, 50 students from Year 12 and 13 visited the Houses of Parliament and the Supreme Court. The students' behaviour was exemplary and their questions to the tour guides extremely insightful.
BBC journalist Harps Kaur will be talking to HABS students about her experience of school and growing up and her career as well as answering their questions.
Yesterday some of our students visited the Black Cultural Archives in Windrush Square, Brixton. They enjoyed participating in a session on the 1981 Uprising and analysed the impact it had on the black community and their relationship with the police.

On Wednesday, our KS5 sport students took to the slopes at Chatham Snowsports Centre. I'm not sure we have any future Olympians, but they all enjoyed it!
All Y13 science students attended a series of masterclasses at HA Crystal Palace. Students appreciated the opportunity to further refine their exam skills to help them achieve the top grades. Just one of the many additional opportunities in offer to 6th Formers at HABS.
21 Y10 students undertook their Duke of Edinburgh Practice Expedition in the Coney Hall Recreation Ground area of West Wickham and impressed with their skills and general camaraderie!

Our year 13s who have shown interest in the apprenticeship pathway had an amazing opportunity to practice their networking skills.

Year 13 had an amazing time at the AQA Grade booster trip! All students attended workshops that helped developed knowledge and skills needed to help maximise their grade for their summer exams.
As part of the Harris Experience programme, Y10 students went to watch a matinee performance of Tosca at the Royal Opera House. The event was a very enriching and engaging experience, giving them the opportunity to see an evocative and thrilling opera, adapted for their age group

On Wednesday evening, we took 80 students from year 7, 8, 9, 10 and 13 to see a performance of the Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre. The show was fantastic, and the students were amazed by the sets, costumes and prices of the merchandise!
Another comfortable win for the boys in green! They beat Elmgreen 33-17 in yesterday's basketball fixture.
It was great to see so many members of the girls' team coming down to support and help with the officiating of the game.
10 of our 6th Form students went to open their fast in Battersea Art Centre as part of London's first Open Iftar event this year! It stands as the UK’s largest and acclaimed community event during Ramadan.

HABS Y13 students visited Imperial College London and interacted with Imperial staff and students, giving them a glimpse of what life at university would be like. The trip motivated our students to pursue higher academic and career goals.

A great day yesterday for Y7 students who competed in the HF basketball tournament 14 schools involved. The girls finished second winning 5/6 games and the boys finished joint second winning 4/6 games

Well done to the Y7 & Y8 athletics teams. It is the first ever athletics competition for Y7 and whilst we didn't have the same medal success as last week's competition, all the students showed great attitude and resilience. Plenty to build on for future competitions!
Yesterday, Y10 students went to Imperial Uni for a STEM day. They attended talks on pursuing A level science or university as well as the different careers available to STEM graduates. Students also had a tour by a former student who now studies at Imperial Uni!

We had lots of fun celebrating World Book Day on Friday 3rd March, with competitions, free book vouchers, discussions about our favourite books and prizes for students who could find the characters from famous novels amongst the school staff!

Yesterday some of our wonderful Y12s went for a taster day at Oxford University. The students enjoyed a Q&A session with undergraduates, a tour of the city and impressed the tutor with an interactive lecture about the meaning of life!
Y11s finished mock season by revising Geography with Head of Academy, Mr Comerford, ahead of their final exam. Congratulations to all of Y11 for their hard work during this first set of exams, setting themselves up for success in their GCSE year!

James Peterson, a mental health and wellbeing motivational speaker spoke to all Y12 students on Wednesday. The students were thoroughly engaged throughout, interacting with James' questions, and were described as a "fantastic audience" by the speaker.
