The average person does not have an intuitive sense of price inflation among a narrow subset of goods over a period of years! People in real life aren't super rational about their own spending like that. Consumer information is spotty at best, there's a ton of research into this.

Books ARE not decorations. Don't underestimate the reference value of a family library. I have books I haven't "read" but have referred to. Also, families will need this cultural archive sooner than later. Get the best books and you'll not regret it .

Large home libraries are pretty lame if you spend more than a few seconds thinking about it. They haven't been a status symbol for like 200 years. Do something better with that space. Just donate your book after reading it instead of trying to make wallpaper out of it.

I've completed reading one book each week for the last 6 months or so. While I'm doing that I'm also reading some huge histories, Aquinas' Commentary on the Metaphysics, and an interesting modern scholastic. I should read at least 56 books this year.

If you don't like to read, I bet its because your teachers sucked at picking books. Junior high and high school teachers forcing young people to read The Grapes of Wrath, Lord of the Flies, and other garbage extinguished most enthusiasm for reading in this country.

I read more than most people. It's easy for me. BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE A TELEVISION. Our new house has no place for one. We designed the house to facilitate conversation and living, not watching TV. Having no TV reorders your life. Get rid of it.
