News just in from California: North Rockland's Katelyn Tuohy has been named Gatorade's overall top female U.S. HS athlete of the year. Tuohy beat national Gatorade softball, volleyball, basketball & soccer players of the year. She is the youngest among the group.

Mount Vernon, Section 1, you have an Oltmpic gold medalist. Rai Benjamin anchors his 4x400-meter relay team to the Olympic championship. In 2015, he was running for Mount Vernon High. The 24-year-old brings home Olympic gold and a silver from his U.S.-record 400 hurdles race.

Any school can individually decide not to play. But that takes guts. This is passing the buck, avoiding flak and acting like anything but leaders. If superintendents, as a group, felt this strongly, they had days and even weeks to voice their opinion before the gov. decided.
