My gf and I are giving public transit in Houston a chance and our bus into Uptown just never showed up.
Can’t expect people to willingly use public transit if this is the norm.
If someone rn wants to travel between Uptown and Downtown Houston, they can drive on traffic heavy freeways or delayed buses in mixed traffic.
This is not sustainable.
Reminder: Some of America’s biggest cities have train station shacks that are served by 1-2 trains per day. It’s not crazy to want what other economies have.
Among Houstonians' top priorities for new
@houmayor
@whitmire_john
is improving the physical infrastructure of the city. This includes expanding public transit, and almost 4 in 10 residents also want the city to add more bike lanes. Read more:
Amazing how these two residential buildings were parking lots not too long ago. METRO’s Red Line passes here every 6 minutes. This is the kind of development we need more of across North America
Today, we say goodbye to BRT in Houston :(
Starting tomorrow, frequency will be reduced to every 20 minutes and will use much smaller buses. Level boarding at NWTC will also be unavailable.
I was there during its debut. Sad to see it go away so soon. Hope it comes back someday
Good to know in 2024, Houston's mayor and city council voted today on expanding highways through downtown. I'm sure one more lane will fix it, this time.
On Thursday, METRO Chair Elizabeth Gonzalez Brock joined
@TxDOTHouston
at the Westpark/Lower Uptown TC to celebrate the completion of the I-610 W. Loop/I-69 SW Freeway Interchange Project.
METRO is proud to partner with other agencies to keep our region moving efficiently! ^C
Cities that people think are good, but are secretly bad: Austin, Denver, San Diego
Cities that people think are bad, but are secretly good: Baltimore, Houston, Milwaukee
Houston City Council will allow TxDOT to destroy our city at a cost of over 10 BILLION dollars minimum but fuck us for wanting BRT down Richmond and Uptown.
The Council cares more about commuters from the Woodlands than Houstonians. Absolutely disgusting
Mayor Whitmire said in a press conference today he wants “to feel safe to go to the Kroger store at night” but high crime at the West Grey location gives him pause.
This is the Kroger store in question:
The city can’t afford to not build the Blue Line for another decade. Most Houstonians supported this in 2019 and even before that.
It’s time METRO and the city of Houston deliver.
Texas countryside is always so beautiful. It’s amazing what proud Texans let TxDOT and sprawl do to it .Maybe the saying should be “Don’t TxDOT my Texas.”
This will all be gas stations and vape store strip malls soon enough. “We’re getting a Cheesecake Factory!”
So far this year, Houston has/is:
- Losing millions of federal dollars
- Lost BRT
- Canceled, paused or removed pedestrian/bike infrastructure
- All in on more car centric infrastructure
- Ignoring the will of voters
The list goes on. Can we stop this trend?
Why in the hell is this gorgeous and safe project being paused by the mayor of Houston??
Do people REALLY think there isn’t enough space for cars already??
Not to get too political but this is why I can’t take yall serious when yall say “we should be spending those billions we’re sending to Ukraine on our people here”.
When given the chance, yall basically screw us over.
Besides working, eating, and drinking, there’s really nothing to do outside of special events. There isn’t even a grocery store or shopping center in the downtown of the 4th largest city in the US 💀
Btw, more parking is certainly not the answer.
This 1,750 space METRO parking garage is being built for $60 million for 1 commuter bus route that serves less than 600 people on weekdays.
Why do we keep subsidizing car infrastructure? If this area can’t support a local bus route, then parking shouldn’t be the issue.
Aaaand that’s it for me.
I’m sick of living in a city that prioritizes cars over people time and time again. More highways don’t work, but we keep doing it.
By this time next year, I hope to move out of Houston for good. I’ll do whatever it takes to leave.
26 lanes of “freedom” and we’re still stuck in traffic.
Why they had to rip out the rail tracks that were already here and instead add 4 managed lanes is beyond disbelief.

Our project is one of many in the blocks surrounding the Plant/Second Ward rail stop. Apartments, mixed-use office/retail, bar/restaurant, and hostel. These other developers may be able to tell you more about whether this is causation or not. But a lot of recent density no doubt.
It’s crazy how both major airports that serve Houston don’t have a rapid connection to the city. Must be a shock to people visiting us for the first time. Not even a place to get a METRO fare card if someone settles for the local bus.
Nail in the coffin in terms of my desire to stay in Houston for the long-term.
TxDOT refuses to provide any type of infrastructure aside from more highways. By the time I’m in my mid 40’s this project will have spent billions for no good reasons.
The new METRO Board won’t listen to the community. There’s actual studies that riders want more service, but instead we’re getting more cops and micro transit.
I’ve been on those packed buses that arrive once every 30 minutes. A shiny, Uber like system won’t solve that.

Says the person who is arguing that a 19th century technology is the solution to 21st century mobility. BTW, have you ever asked African Americans and Latinos what they think about Metro's service? I have.
The craziest part is how most Houstonians want to live in a more people-oriented city.
Our current local administration doesn’t though, ignoring the will of the people.
Friendly reminder that METRO plan to remove the trees, bike lane, and bus stops just to preserve the same number of lanes. In an area that has one of the worst urban heat island effects in Houston, it’s unbelievable that they will compromise the rider experience to favor drivers.

Hillcroft does not need 3 lanes of traffic each direction. Removing a recently built bike lane so the number of lanes can stay the same is a terrible idea.
Now I see why when I tell people I live in southwest Houston their first response is “yeah Sugarland is nice!” I never considered where I live to be in-town.
It’s crazy how I hear my coworkers say “there’s no parking in downtown.”
First of all, there’s too much. People just don’t want to pay for it and/or walk a few blocks.
But also…bruh. We work for the transit agency. Y’all telling me y’all don’t use our own system either???
The 2026 World Cup Final will be held at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, according to
@MartinLipton
.
Dallas always made more sense than NYC or LA — an indoor stadium that seats 100,000 fans, an airport 15 minutes away, and good for most time zones.
More details are expected next month.
This nurse went viral for Ubering to work because parking is too expensive.
Now on TikTok people are sharing how they have to pay up to $30 a day to park at their jobs.
Got to love the tech upgrades at
@HEB
fuels in NW Harris County. First time seeing a touch screen.
Just wish the card tap worked. Other than that great upgrades.
It’s kinda unsurprising how dead downtown Houston is after weekday rush hour. Unless the Astros are in town, only homeless people and a few teenagers on e-scooters roam the streets at night.
Around 11k people live in the CBD of the 4th largest city in the US.
