Our new year 7s have had a busy day! ๐ They have had a tour of the school, met their tutors, had their first Heritage School lunch and their first break time (complete with healthy snacks ๐๐) - they will be starting their first secondary school lesson this afternoon ๐

A number of our students have undertaken community service in Clowne today following incidents of littering with exercise books - it is important that all of our students respect their communities and the areas they live in and keep them free from litter
Yesterday morning before school Eddie supported a young lady that had blacked out and badly injured her face. He remained calm, rolled the lady onto her side and made sure she was safe until she came too. He waited with her until she was picked up and taken home. Well done Eddie!

We want to say a massive well done to Amelia White from year 7 who donated her hair to the Little Princess Trust-a charity that makes real hair wigs for young cancer patients - this is an incredibly kind thing to do + will make a huge difference to a young personโs confidence ๐ซ
A group of our year 7 students did a fantastic job of leading the 'Infant Agility Festival' on Wednesday - well done to all of the students who were involved - you displayed excellent teamwork and leadership skills ๐๐

A huge thank you to Tommy Rush, the Environmental Enforcement Team Leader from Bolsover Council, who came in to work with our year 7 litter picking group today - we learned a lot of interesting facts about how litter is dealt with in our local area ๐
Fundraising for the next event begins ๐ค we are lucky to be one of the schools sponsoring and designing a bear on the 2019 Summer Bear Trail in Sheffield - we got a sneak peek at the bear statue tonight - we will be designing a small bear (shown next to Mr Johnson for scale) ๐ป๐
Congratulations to the students in year 7 who were the top 4 in the Mr Men/Little Miss Character Design Competitionโญ๏ธ Students were set the challenge of creating a character that represented the schoolโs values and we had some incredibly creative and thoughtful entries ๐
It was lovely to welcome our students back to school and to welcome our new year 7s for their first official day at a Heritage๐ซ You should all be very proud of how you have adapted to the new procedures in school โญ๏ธ
Congratulations to Chloe Plant and Joseph Smith, who were appointed as our new Head Boy and Head Girl today - Chloe and Joseph are also both in Tolkien House so it is a full Tolkien line-up this year! โญ๏ธโญ๏ธ

53% of the votes cast in the Heritage Mock Election were for Labour, the Conservative party got 16% of the vote and the Green party got 13% - it will be interesting to see if the votes cast by our students reflect the votes cast in Bolsover today ๐

The year 7 and 8 students wrote messages on hearts for the important people in their lives today for Diversity Week - we had so many lovely messages for parents, step-parents and grandparents as well as brothers, sisters and friends๐๐

On Sunday Katie competed in her first 10k road race๐โโ๏ธShe ran it in 42.11 and was 9th female out of 2500, the 1st female U17+2nd female U20๐ฅThis is an exceptional time for her first race at this distance + is the 3rd fastest recorded 10k for female U17 ran in Britain this year!
The food bank items were collected by the Padley Group today they were greeted by our top donating students who helped them to pack all the items and load them on the van it was very full by the time they left! ๐

In February 2021 Isobelle Booker set herself the challenge of walking the distance from Lands End to John O'Groats (874 miles!) in memory of her grandad. Isobelle completed the challenge on 27th of December 2021,the one year anniversary of her grandad's passing

Erin is the first student to complete our TTCT Super Reader Challenge this year. She has read all 10 books on the Y9 reading list and passed Accelerated Reader quizzes on each book. Erin's favourite book on the list was โThe Gifted, the Talented and Meโ by William Sutcliffe.๐คฉ๐

We take reading seriously at Heritage High School! Mr Gigner, our wonderful Library Manager presented a session on the importance of reading and shared with all staff the HHS reading strategy. Reading enhances life choices, and that is our mission.
The students will vote for the ideas they would like to put in place this year to celebrate RSE Day on 29th June and will then speak to Miss Elsdon to let her know which activities they would like to run to celebrate kindness at Heritageโญ๏ธ
