K-9 Eli became distressed today while tracking a suspect. He was rushed to a vet but unfortunately passed away. Please keep GCPD & his handler Officer Bonanno in your thoughts as we mourn the sudden loss of this brave K-9
This was the first police job for Officer Toney. Prior to working for our agency, he worked as a security guard. His immediate family lives in California.
Officer Toney was assigned to the South Precinct.
This is the 5th Line-of-Duty death for our agency. We’ve received kind words and prayers from our community near and far. Our hearts are heavy with this tremendous loss.
Isaiah Pretlow (in dreadlocks) has been arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault. Still at large is Tafahree Maynard, who is charged with Aggravated Assault and Felony Murder in connection with Ofc. Toney’s murder. Anyone with information on Maynard should call 770-513-5710.
Police Chief Butch Ayers has confirmed that suspect Tafahree Maynard was shot and killed while GCPD officers tried to apprehend him. Details will follow.

Ofc. Toney's memorial has grown, including items dropped off by the 102nd Academy, which started yesterday. Despite recent events, all 50 recruits showed up on day one. The memorial will remain through Ofc. Toney's funeral on Wednesday.

Our officers are mourning the loss of Cpl. Michael Warnke (37). Mike died of natural causes last Friday at his home. He was laid to rest today. He is survived by a wife, infant son, & a tremendous amount of family and friends. Our department is better because he was part of it.

K9 Eros has passed away. He worked for GCPD from Aug 2013 to June 2018 and was assigned to Cpl. Brandon Townley. Eros gave more than 7,500 hours to serving the community and will be greatly missed by his family.

This beautiful wood carving was given to the South Precinct from the GCPD SWAT Team in honor of Officer Antwan Toney who died in the line-of-duty last October. It will become part of a permanent memorial soon.

Earlier today our officers were called to intervene with a man threatening to jump off an interstate bridge. One of our behavioral health co-responder teams was there within minutes and successfully convinced the man to come down. Great work by this team!

Ten year old Eric Bacon is missing from his home on Bogan Mill Rd in Buford. He weighs 70 lbs. and is 5 feet tall. He was last seen around 11:00am.

GCPD in mourning the loss of Retired K9 Zeke, who passed away on Feb. 15. K9 Zeke served as a narcotics detection K9 from 2013 to 2020. After retirement, K9 Zeke lived with his handler, Cpl. Stanley Jones, and his family until he died. Thank you for your service K9 Zeke.
One of our officers was involved in a single-vehicle accident early this morning. It appears as though the officer had a medical event that caused the accident. He had minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment. Thanks to everyone sending well-wishes.

On June 26, 2000, KeeKee Bell, then a toddler, was rescued by GCPD SWAT officers during a hostage incident. Major J.D. McClure, Major Greg Adams (who was shot during the incident) & Deputy Chief Tom Doran helped rescue her. Today, she graduated from Grayson HS. Congratulations!
A recent body camera audit captured the interaction of Sgt. Todd Heller and a homeless man. Facing a dangerously cold night, Sgt. Heller used over $150 of his own money to purchase cold-weather provisions for the man. Sgt. Heller is a great representative of a GCPD officer!
Officer Mondesir responded to a call of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle. He found the victim with a serious injury to her leg. He applied a tourniquet to her leg to control bleeding from the wound. His efforts helped save her life. Congratulations on winning the Lifesaving Award!
We have a department full of officers out patrolling tonight. They are out to make sure the roads are safe for everyone. A DUI is never worth it. Call for a sober ride.
Retired K9 Euro passed away on Monday, 01/22. He lived 16 years & served GCPD for 7. His handler, Sgt. Finnegan, said Euro handled 400+ calls, resulting in 80 patrol & narcotics apprehensions. He was as asset to GC. In retirement, he became a member of the Finnegan household.
The protests at Sugarloaf Mills Mall have ended. Most protesters did so peacefully. The only damage reported was to two police cars. For more info click here:

Our hearts break for the Ventura County Sheriff's Office who are mourning the loss of one of their officers. Sgt. Ron Helus, along with several others, died during an active shooter incident in Thousand Oaks, CA last night.

Sgt. Jerrald Leak was in the right place at the right time. On Friday, June 30, Sgt. Leak was grabbing some lunch following a SWAT detail at the Golden Corral on Satellite Blvd when another customer began to choke on his food.

In response to today's tragic event in Uvalde, Texas, tomorrow our officers will work with our partners at the GCPS School Police to provide extra patrols at all Gwinnett schools. There is no known threat to any school in Gwinnett.
We are working 54 traffic calls right now, and have worked 567 traffic calls since midnight. 14 intersections throughout the county remain closed. Conditions have not improved much, and any melting that has occurred will re-freeze. We continue to recommend staying off the roads!
GCPD respects our citizen’s right to protest. The safety of all involved is our primary concern. We will not tolerate protesters getting on or attempting to block traffic on the interstate. If protesters proceed onto the interstate they will be arrested.

Prince Robertson has been taken into custody.
Shortly after 3pm, a person called 911 with a possible sighting of Robertson in the area of Old Peachtree Rd and Old Fountain Rd in Lawrenceville. Officers quickly descended upon the area and arrested him without incident.
Earlier this week, a detective found this stolen car parked in front of a house in unincorporated Lawrenceville. It will soon be released to the rightful owner.
The Gwinnett County Police Department is mourning the loss of a dear friend and brother. Officer Victor Cortez lost his battle to cancer on Sunday. He was a loving husband and father to 2. He’ll be sorely missed.
