Qualifying for a World Cup was great but I've not enjoyed watching us play at all. Players never looked ready, coaches got a lot wrong and other than Qatar we've probably been the worst side at the World Cup.
A shambolic end to Welsh football's golden era.
Love the Irish but after their brutal tactics, cheating, miserable football, rip-off tickets, terrible away allocation and banning
@thebarryhorns
only to pump their own band over the tannoy, I’m delighted they got hammered tonight.
Wales now have as many wins in major tournaments as Scotland which is pretty crazy considering Scotland have played in 11 major tournaments while this is only our third.
Swansea have won 5 league South Wales Derbies by more than one goal in the past decade.
Cardiff have won 4 league South Wales Derbies by more than one goal in their entire history.
As a kid I was always jealous of people who had Swans matches on their birthdays, knowing I'd never get that experience as somebody born in July.
Had to wait until my 30th, but I can confirm, watching the Swans win on your birthday is class.
With 25 mins remaining the Swans were 1-1 and Forest were 1-1.
In the remaining 25 minutes the Swans scored 3 and Forest conceded 3!
Swansea made the play-offs ahead of Forest by +1 goal difference
That is how you end a season! (or extend a season in the Swans' case)
Every Swansea player deserves heaps of praise but special recognition for
@1jlatibeaudiere
. Hasn't had anywhere near enough minutes at CB this season but never lets us down when he plays there. I thought he was class today.
If you want entertainment, buy a Swansea City season ticket.
If you want lots of goals, buy a Swansea City season ticket.
If you want a weekly heart-attack, buy a Swansea City season ticket.
To any Swans fan slating Potter, imagine your workplace was in financial turmoil, every possible obstacle was thrown in your way and you knew there are more crises to come.
Would you turn down a better-paid, higher level position at a calmer workplace with a competent boss?
Since 2016 Hungary have won just one match away from home and that was against Azerbaijan. In that time they've lost to teams like Andorra and Montenegro. Their away form is awful which should give Welsh fans cause for optimism.
Brentford's loss today means Swansea have the longest unbeaten run in the Championship and the Swans are the only Championship side yet to lose a league game in 2021.
How on earth is Conor Hourihane a Swansea player?
I mean, everybody knew signing him would be a real game-changer but I'm not sure anybody expected this!
Ben Cabango's winner means Swansea have scored as many league goals this season from dead ball situations as they did in the whole of the 2021-22 season!
Seeing people say they would never select Dan James to take a pen.
He scored a penalty in a European final. I don't think he's ever missed a pen before tonight and he's in great form.
Someone had to be the unlucky one to miss and sadly it was him. Hurts but that's football.
Freddie Woodman today played against the league's top scorers and had to make one save all day.
The entire Swansea side deserves credit for an outstanding defensive display but special credit is reserved for Ben Cabango and Joe Rodon, both of whom were excellent.
Either Figueredo's been fouled by his own keeper here (hilarious) or he's felt contact from behind and dived, looking for a free-kick, not realising it's his own keeper (even more hilarious).
I can't work out which one it is.
Swansea have now amassed more points than we did last season and are guaranteed to finish above last season's 10th place finish.
I think if any Swansea fans had been offered that at the start of the season we would all have taken it.
Swansea to Norwich and back is a 12 hour round trip. Any Swansea fans making that journey for a Friday night match have my full and undivided admiration. You're all heroes (and insane).
Yesterday four Welsh clubs won in the Football League on the same day, while keeping clean sheets, for the first time since September 13th, 1924:
Newport 1-0 Northampton
Swansea 2-0 Merthyr
Grimsby 0-1 Wrexham
Aberdare Athletic 3-0 Reading
Selling plastic straws will be banned in Wales from the end of this month.
I've just bought a milkshake from a business that's found an unusual solution to the ban...
I've watched this on loop since last night. In no way a Leeds fan but this is what it's all about.
In an age where tedious weirdos criticise other clubs' fans for "over-celebrating" can we agree this kind of thing is amazing and football needs more scenes like these?
Conor Hourihane has been here 5 minutes and already he's done something no Swansea player has managed for nearly 4 years: score directly from a free-kick!
I think it would be best for everybody involved if Rhys Williams returns to Liverpool. He's not developing here and looks very low on confidence. Some loans work out, others don't.
If you concede four in a single half against a Steve Cooper side, you've got a lot of problems to sort out.
We are far too much of a soft touch and at times we're defensively self-destructive. Most of the goals we concede are a joke.
I'm in a state of shock! An absolute state of shock!
That's why we love football, because every now and again, it gives you these crazy moments which nothing else in life can give you!
There's nothing quite like supporting the Swans!
Swansea's domination in this fixture had to end at some point. Expected a loss and we got one. It's awful but they were overdue a win.
But in the wider context of our season that's seriously worrying. Duff had two weeks with his players and he served up that mess! Wow!
How is this still a thing? Why does James McClean choosing not wearing a poppy still require a club statement? It's pathetic and embarrassing that this is a yearly issue.
There are plenty of reasons to dislike James McClean as a footballer but this definitely isn't one of them.
Obviously it's ridiculous looking back but I'm convinced it was good for the Swans at the time. Players were grounded, nobody took themselves too seriously and they genuinely interacted as normal people with fans.
Helped feed the amazing culture around the club at that time.
Delighted Portugal are still in Euro 2020 so that the entire world can keep hearing commentators and pundits discuss Renato Sanches's season at Swansea City.
Swans have taken 34 points from a possible 36 when they've taken the lead in the Championship this season. They've only conceded twice in matches where they've scored first.
When we go ahead we're very good as managing a lead, even when we're far from our best.
I have nothing but admiration for anybody who makes the 10 hour round trip from Swansea to Hull on a stormy Friday night, when the game's live on TV.
Incredible levels of both dedication and insanity.
Giggs has taken plenty of criticism as Wales manager so it's only fair he gets credit when he does well. He got everything right tonight. Wales should of course beat Azerbaijan but it was thoroughly professional and made it easy for themselves.
Really chuffed for Obafemi.
He's had to wait for his opportunity but he's been great lately and scoring goals has given him a new confidence.
Our best player today.
Normal South Wales Derby service is resumed!!!
Total reversal of game at CCS earlier in the season. Out-fought and out-played Cardiff from start to finish.
And doubly sweet because this was meant to be the one where Cardiff finally did the double over the Swans. What a feeling!
A League One player has just scored in added time on his international debut to secure an away point against the team which just finished 3rd in the World Cup!
Football is fantastic!
Pwynt hollol annisgwyl ond un pwysig iawn.
WHAT A WIN!!!
Swansea at their best. We showed Norwich the respect they deserved and frustrated them throughout but remained positive throughout, taking advantage of Norwich's vulnerabilities.
This was a huge game and only one side turned up. A real statement of intent!
I am going to love every second of my drive back to Cardiff!
A word of warning for all my Cardiff-supporting colleagues. I am going to be unbearable this week!
Swansea's home record since August is the worst in the Championship.
Charlton's away record since August is the worst in the Championship.
Swansea vs Charlton on Thursday should be an absolute cracker!
Fabianski's probably the best goal-keeper the club's ever had, one of the top 5 keepers in the Premier League over the past two years and a man who gave his all every time he wore the shirt.
West Ham don't know how lucky they are.
Sooooo chuffed for Johnny Williams! After 7 years of trying very hard, working his socks off and getting kicked to pieces every game, he finally has his first ever goal for Wales.
Sweet sweet sweeeeet karma!
Reading's time wasting was so blatant from the very start, with a referee who enabled them every step of the way. Beautiful justice that it didn't pay off for them.
Impressed and proud of the young Swans today. We fell behind to a tough side and battled back brilliantly, scoring two goals and playing some really pretty football. Couldn't really have asked for a better start to life back in the Championship.
After such an enjoyable season this is the scene before the players emerge for a lap of honour. Swans fans have let themselves down with this shocking and quite honestly disrespectful display. The players deserve better than this.
Paul Clement was the last Swansea manager to win a match immediately after an international break. That was back in 2017. Since then we've lost 7 and drawn 2.
Happy Sunday Swansea fans!
Roque Mesa going on loan to a Champions League club while we're bottom of the league and we're reportedly paying part of his wages. This is just months after we bought him to be the long-term replacement for Leon. Nothing sums up the death of the Swansea Way quite like Mesa.
Flynn Downes was superb toay, easily man of the match. He gave our defence incredible protection, won so many battles and looked very comfortable on the ball.
Nathan Wood has seriously exceeded my expectations so far this season. He's so well-suited to the Swans, a proper defender who's also confident enough with the ball at his feet.
He was good against Stoke but even better today.
Swansea have lost just two games to teams outside the top 4 since October.
We're not great by any means and nobody wants to be 4 points off the relegation zone, but the unkind fixture list is making the situation look way worse than it actually is.
Any fans, Swansea or Cardiff, who bring club rivalry onto the international stage, stay at home. Very few other countries have this problem and it's embarrassing. Those responsible are a joke and should be made to feel that way by proper supporters.
The fact Cabango was ever dropped from this side just seems more and more mad with every passing game. The kid is fantastic, had another seriously mature game tonight under real pressure. He and Rodon look great together and definitely didn't deserve to lose tonight.
Swansea have scored 8 goals in their last 3 games. Those goals were scored by 7 different players.
Nice to see that we're not as reliant on Piroe and Obafemi for all our goals this season.
110 years of South Wales Derbies without either side completing a league double......then the Swans do it with an aggregate score of 7-0!!!!
I love this club.
After all the dodgy refereeing decisions which have been given in Stoke's favour against Swansea over the past decade, I think we were due a questionable penalty at their place!!!
Finally a Swansea win in Stoke! I thought it would never happen!
Special sense of satisfaction in beating one of the top teams in the league.
Extra satisfaction when we come from behind to get 3 pts.
Even better when it's done so entertainingly.
Absolutely immense when the opposition are such a dirty bunch of bruisers.
Class from the Swans
Fulham are by some distance the best team in the Championship but for 40 mins we matched them and were probably the better team.
But that red card and an amateurish start to the second half opened the floodgates and Fulham tore us to shreds.
Thought big bens at CB, Wilmot and Cabango were both brilliant defensively. A 20-year-old and a 19-year-old, playing in a derby atmosphere against seriously physical opposition, and they gave Woodman superb protection.
That's now just 3 points from a possible 33 for Swansea in Saturday away games this season.
Another bad performance on the road today. Gifted Blackpool a goal in 4th minute then passed the ball around without any conviction, creativity or clear plan for the rest of the game.
The thought of every single away fan who visits the Liberty next season singing about winning a World Cup while we stand there with no comeback is absolutely horrible.
Come on Croatia!
Blown away by some of our passing out from the back tonight. It was pure insanity at times but so incredibly assured and amazing to watch.
A couple of the missing components from the rest of the season have come into play over the past two matches and it's transformed our play.
People complained the Swans were boring under Steve Cooper. Well, there was nothing boring about the way we played in that first half.
Watching Ryan Bennett try to pass the ball around at the back is heart attack a minute stuff.
Every single one of those Swans players can hold their heads up high. They were amazing today and definitely didn't deserve to lose the way they did.
A reminder that we have an amazing group of players with an outstanding attitude. So proud of this club!
So insanely happy for Dan James!
One of the most loveable footballers you'll ever see. Great to see him get off to the perfect start after his big move.
Joel Piroe is getting better and better with every game, and that's scary considering he's been brilliant pretty much from day one at Swansea.
I absolutely love watching him in the number 10 position. Every touch has a purpose.
I know we're all celebrating three wins on the trot and a top six spot but I'm afraid I have some disappointing news to report.
The Swans have fallen to 3rd in the Championship possession charts with a measly average of just 60%.
So many highlights today but particularly enjoyed a geriatric Wayne Routledge topping off a superb display by nutmegging Sean Morrison. He and Dyer both made a big difference.
Cardiff have played the entire season with a Championship squad. They deserve credit for lasting until the 37th game of the campaign before getting relegated. They won't lose many players over the summer and are much better prepared for relegation this time than they were in 2014
Brentford have gone 19 league games unbeaten which is incredible but worth noting the Swans have taken just 3 fewer points than the Bess in their last 19 games.
Brentford are a force of nature but the Swans are very nearly matching them. It's such a relentless promotion race.
Apart from Ben Davies and Danny Ward, all of Gareth Bale's team mates in this photo were in primary school when he made his international debut. Neco Williams had just turned five when Bale got his first senior cap.
3 straight wins for the first time under Russell Martin feels like a real step forward.
Not quite as polished as last two games but still a very good performance.
Two lovely strikes from Piroe but Wolf was my man of the match. His best display in a Swans shirt.
That was wild!!!
Some hairy moments at the end but Swans fully deserved the 3 points after a superb performance and some of the most confident football we've played all season. Great to watch!
3 straight away wins too. A fantastic couple of days for Swansea City Football Club!
Renato Sanches comes on for Portugal and first thing the commentator says is: "Renato Sanches, who had that difficult spell at Swansea."
That was four years ago! Let the guy move on, he's won a league title since then. He'll still be reminded of that season when he's in his 60s.
Slovakia, Malta, San Marino, Liechtenstein, Andorra, Grenada, Faroe Islands and now Wales.
These are all the teams who've ever failed to score in matches against Gibraltar.
2011-12 was probably my all-time favourite Swans season and one of my (many) lasting memories from that season was Dyer terrorising Ashley Cole to the point where Cole got sent off for repeatedly fouling him. Dyer was genuinely among the best wingers in the division that season.
It's happened again!
Didn't think anything could beat last year's 4-0 and yet somehow that last minute winner was actually better!
Never beat the Jacks!
Two big positives for Wales from this World Cup:
- Fans made a great impression and our presence there means more people are aware of Wales as a country.
- Ampadu the only big positive on the pitch. Stepped up in a difficult role and was by far our best player in Qatar.
If you look up the definition of madness in the dictionary you'd see Swansea City repeating that ridiculous short goal-kick routine.
I get the theory behind it but we cannot execute it and we continuously invite pressure on ourselves by messing it up.
A very different Swansea performance tonight. Backs to the wall, not great in possession but a hard-fought three points against a promotion-chasing side. Not sure how we did it, but a very welcome victory for the Swans!
Jay Fulton was on a mission today. Possibly the best player on the pitch (Manning may have something to say about that), getting stuck in but also passing the ball brilliantly.
Right up there with his best ever performance. Great to see him flourishing in recent weeks.
