Just a thought, but at the start of the pandemic, they threw up Nightingale hospitals at a rate of knots. OK, they were never used, but couldn't something like that be done so we can house refugees in humane conditions rather than concentration camps?

@peterstafford Yes, I once cried buckets of tears over a black cat I thought was mine, killed in a traffic accident. I paid a shed load of money for a decent funeral for him. Went home distraught, to find him waiting by his bowl for his tea. Never found out who the other moggy was.

I was just telling my husband that, when we were kids, we used to shrink crisp packets down to the size of a postage stamp by the heat of a coal fire. And it took ages and you had to be really careful it didn't burn. He didn't believe me, anyone else done it? (careful, kids!)

So last night a parcel arrived. Bob knew immediately what was in it. He has been in and out of the utility room checking on it ever since. I told him he could have it after breakfast, as soon as I put my knife down he was there! Clever happy boy.

Meg update she got through the night OK, had a wee in the garden, and a short walk. But she is obviously very sore. Off her food, apart from cat biscuits and Grahams breakfast croissant, which he kindly donated. Leo stays close. x

Meg update. She was a very good girl and did a sample for the vet. It has been tested and all the indications are it is cystitis from an infection of some kind. So she is on antibiotics and inflacalm and the vet is confident that this will do the trick. Phew!

Isn’t nature wonderful? We found a huge ants nest in a chimney pot we use as a base for the bird bath, and the ants have constructed a spiral staircase so they can climb to the top. Amazing!

Meg update: the vet has seen her, her plaster has come off, and he says the skin is healing really well. She needs to wear the body suit for 14 days, and it will be 3 weeks before she can walk off the lead, as her muscles need time to knit. But all in all he was very pleased. x

I find it hard to believe that nato (the US) is finding it so hard to verify the withdrawal of Russian troops. They were so very accurate about how many were ‘massed’ on the Ukraine border for the invasion that never was. I mean it was imminent. Looming. All of that stuff.

I've been growing my hair. Just to see if I still can. And it does grow and all and looks nice if it is blow dried. But I really cannot be bothered with it. So my husband is going to cut it tomorrow. I've asked him to do a Judi Dench. Wish me luck!
