I am honoured to become Leader of Waltham Forest Council with the unanimous support of my fellow Councillors. It’s a big responsibility with a budget of 3/4 of a billion pounds and 2500 council staff. I will do everything I can to serve all 300,000 people in the borough.

I am complaining about these bill boards to the Advertising Standards Agency on the grounds of harm and offence in terms of the way the posters target our MP and will cause distress
Serious kudos to
@Labourstone
for what he has achieved over the 10 years of Mini Holland. A master class in doing what is right over what is politically convenient, building a community movement + using powers, talents and relationships of Local Gov to transform our streets!
Proud to join my friend and neighbour,
@Jas_Athwal
, campaigning for Ilford South. Jas has the stamina and experience needed, but most of all he is deeply caring and is committed to doing everything he possibly can for his community. A winning combination!
London Labour leaders turning out to talk to hundreds on the doorstep for
@ShamaTatler
in Chingford and Woodford Green.
Only Labour can end to Tory chaos and a deliver our new Whipps Cross hospital 🏥
Thank you to everyone who has supported me over the last few weeks as I stood to become Leader of Labour Group in Waltham Forest and to the many people who have sent me messages of support and congratulations.
We’ve had a succession of former prime ministers and Health Secretaries including Hancock, Javid, Coffey and Barclay promise us a new Whipps Cross hospital but now we have to ask if it was just empty words and a photo opportunity.

The Leader of the Council Grace Williams
@GracieMaeW
has released a statement expressing her disappointment with further delays receiving funding for a much-needed new hospital at Whipps Cross 👇
Proud to be with
@Georgia_Gould
@SadiqKhan
@Keir_Starmer
talking about what
@LondonLabour
Councils and a Labour mayor are delivering for Londoners, despite Tory cuts and broken promises and what a Labour government on peoples side will do
Expanding ULEZ means children in outer London Boroughs will breathe cleaner air, like their classmates in inner London.
The Mayor of London’s generous scrappage scheme provides real help for those that still need to switch vehicles.
#FairerGreener
The Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) will expand across all London boroughs from 29 August 2023.
In preparation, a new £110m scrappage scheme will provide financial assistance to help eligible Londoners scrap their highest polluting vehicles to prepare.
👉
The Government has admitted it will not fund a new Whipps Cross Hospital until at least 2025.
Chingford and WG Tories should stick this leaflet going through peoples doors in the recycling and print a new one apologising that this promise has not been kept.

1/2 No child should be going hungry in London. I welcome the Mayor’s announcement to extend free school meals from infant to junior children for the next year, even as Government has failed to step in.
NEW: City Hall will be funding free school meals for every primary school pupil in London.
No child should go hungry in our city.
The Government have refused to act, so I’m stepping up.
Thanks for campaigning with us today and for your clear leadership on equality and diversity which you continue to show so that everyone in the Labour Party feels safe. Great conversations on the doorstep!
Despite a decade of devastating Tory cuts, Labour councils like Waltham Forest are delivering a safer, greener & fairer London.
Great to join so many supporters in Higham Hill today.
If you believe in defending London’s values of equality, fairness & diversity -

As an ex researcher on child poverty and ex teacher, I’ve studied and seen firsthand the terrible effect of hunger on children’s well-being and learning. This action helps to consign hunger in our capital to the history books.
I know from my own experience how much of a lifeline free school meals can be for families.
Today I've announced City Hall will be funding free school meals for every primary school pupil in London.
No child should go hungry in our city.
Still buzzing from the news that my friend
@Jas_Athwal
is the Labour candidate for Ilford South. Jas has been a champion for Whipps Cross hospital, flood investment, public services for East London and the future of the Labour Party!
Seeking safety is not a crime.
I have co-signed a letter to
@suellabraverman
alongside 22 London councils, expressing my deep concern at the treatment of asylum seekers across the country. I am proud that
@wfcouncil
will become a Borough of Sanctuary.
The Govt promised to extend free childcare provision - but they've failed to provide enough funding or work with the childcare sector to deliver it.
I've written to the Chancellor with 20 other
@LondonLabour
leaders, urging action to prevent more families being let down.
@SadiqKhan
has delivered his promise for London children - providing free school meals and saving families £1000 per child. Going down well today at schools in Waltham Forest.
Let’s make sure we re-elect our brilliant Labour Mayor on 2nd May
A wonderful start to

Such a pleasure to mark the start of
@SadiqKhan
’s historic third term - reflecting a London which open, inclusive and ambitious.
Looking forward to working with him to make Waltham Forest fairer, greener and safer.
Great to be with
@SadiqKhan
and women across the capital to discuss the impact that a feminist eco-system is having across London and how we tackle the challenges that women face particularly in housing, cost of living, skills and employment and the women’s sector.
#IWD2023
Shocked and saddened by the news about David Amess MP who served his constituents for many years. My thoughts are with his family and friends. Violence has no place in public life - we must all work together across the political spectrum to make it safer.
The discussion chaired by
@ElizabethBapti4
on what needs to be done to support victims of the windrush scandal was one of most important things I’ve heard at conference. Looking forward to working with councillors and
@Semakaleng
to raise this issue further in London.
One of the best things about the Labour Party is campaigning alongside each other. We are all united by our shared purpose -being a country and a council
#OnYourSide
Help us send a strong message to Johnsons government tomorrow and join us to campaign. DM if you can help.
Today many families in our borough are losing £20 a week as the government cuts the Universal Credit uplift. 39% of children in Waltham Forest live in poverty and 40% of our residents are working and in poverty. This is a heartless and damaging decision by the government.
Great response for
@ShamaTatler
in Highams Park today. People want change in our community.
Reminding people to bring their photo ID to vote Labour on July 4th! 🌹 🌹 🌹
Such a strong result for
@Semakaleng

Really important day for our borough as we get the news that at last Whipps Cross hospital can proceed. Thanks to our residents who have campaigned for this over many years. Now we will work to make sure this is delivered without further delay and to meet Waltham Forest’s needs.

The new Tool House
@pumphousemuseum
is an absolutely amazing space for people in the borough to make useful and beautiful stuff! Great to say hello to the people who made this happen as it opened this morning!
Aware there has been flooding in different parts of London as a result of the heavy rain. Waltham Forest Council has put an emergency plan in place, with other agencies and will be communicating further through our social media channels and directly with residents asap.
Under this Tory Government rough sleeping has doubled and in every classroom there is a child without a place to call home . Very proud of
@WFLabourParty
and
@Semakaleng
’s work on housing and
@SadiqKhan
’s £10 million commitment to end rough sleeping in London once and for all
Thanks for exposing the Tories failed promise to fix our hospital. What our residents want to know is where is the money for our hospital?

Parents at the school gates impressed by
@SadiqKhan
promise to permanently fund free school meals for primary pupils - people telling me they are voting Labour on 2nd May because of the difference its making to their families’ weekly budget.
For a Londoner who has always loved buses (yes really), it’s great to see
@SadiqKhan
tackling poor public transport access in outer London head on. Looking forward to working with our community and TfL on plans for the

Alex has been working four days a week as a volunteer vaccinator since February vaccinated around 7700 people (more than the capacity of the Royal Albert Hall was how he put it) and guessed this might mean he had saved 10-15 lives. Today he gave me my booster.
