My father-in-law is a Medchemist at Pfizer. He is insanely gifted. We were in the pharmacy looking at Atorvastatin here, a drug he worked on, I asked him why doesn't Pfizer make drugs like this anymore? I will never forget his answer… 'We can’t, we don’t know how to do it.'

A 90-95% failure rate in clinical trials has a way of wearing you down tho. Statistically most scientists working on the discovery side will go their entire careers and never work on a project that leads to a marketed drug. There’s no equivalent of this in tech that I know of
