In 1988-89 Arsenal beat Newcastle 1-0 home & away, and Middlesbrough 1-0 away. Both of those teams were relegated at the end of the season. You might want to go and check where Arsenal finished that season as I very much doubt that you know.

OTD 1887 Royal @Arsenal played their first ever home game, on Plumstead Common. This was also their first game after changing their name from Dial Square. They beat local rivals Erith 6-1 who were playing their first ever game. No other details of the game have been found.
