If you don't believe in the range of severity, the amount of community prevalence, and how repeat infections can make long covid worse, then you're still participating in denialism. It's not enough to accept that it exists, you must acknowledge the scale of the problem as well.

When public health says "we need to learn to live with covid, it's going to be with us forever, and endemic covid has arrived", people seem to have interpreted that as covid is with us but is no longer a threat. This is public health's communications failure.

None. We should implement clean air infrastructure in all public spaces, identify outbreaks quickly and provide supports for people to stay home and properly recover while also preventing onward transmission. Supply fit testing and respirators in communities with outbreaks too.

"Just because someone's coughing doesn't mean they have a respiratory virus. It could be a chronic cough from something else." True but no one's testing and there's a ton of sick people out there and no reason why you can't both have a chronic condition and be infected.

To everyone that did a personal risk assessment leading to taking their masks off in the last year or so, thanks. Capitalist interests smelled weakness and pounced. Next up: banning masks outright in public.

Approximate costs of a year's worth of covid avoidance: $100 in respirators 100 indoor events with friends skipped (avg 2 per week) 10 office events skipped (1 per month) 500 hours masked I work from home and mask when I go outside or at home sometimes.

If 90% of us gets infected an average of 1.5 times a year with a pathogen the causes immune dysregulation for 1/2 year each time, what does that mean for us as a society when it comes to how we interact with other viruses, bacteria, fungi, chemical and other pathogens?

There's a moral injury that occurs when the people around us don't fully align on perceived risk. I can choose to either become bitter and angry about that or I can work within the context presented and figure out how to care for everyone.

I stopped communicating covid safety to friends since Dec 2021 as they became vaxxed and relaxed. I knew how this story was going to end. People don't want to hear bad news and they end up shooting the messenger.

I try not to take it personally but it actually really fucking sucks that basically everyone I've ever known has been happy to abandon me because I am vocal about spreading disease being a shitty thing to do.

If your kid has been sick more than 10 times in the last years or you've been sick more than 5 times then you may all be suffering from immune dysregulation. Please read the latest articles on the coronavirus from The Atlantic or Washington Post to get your daily dose of cope.

Fifty percent of men suffer from erectile dysfunction. I know personally zero men that have come forward to tell me about it. Long covid exists without needing you to be told about it by your friends.

HIV disease progression is slower. HIV has PReP. HIV has antivirals to prevent AIDS. HIV has killed in decades what SARS did in a few years. HIV has infected millions. SARS2 billions. Long covid is a far bigger threat.

I called it Airborne AIDS, and people lost their mind. Where are they now? BTW? Time to double down. HIV does not kill in the acute, SC2 does. AIDS is a late effect, occurring after years. With all of the varied impacts SC2 has on the immune system OTHER than on TCells?

I might wear a mask forever or might not. What I do know is that this person will be inhaling the maximum viral dose they can on a regular basis of a wide variety of airborne pathogens which will dramatically shorten their life span and quality of life remaining.

I see covid cautious people getting annoyed at protestors wearing face coverings and respirators. Masks work regardless of one's political ideology or reason for wearing them. Protests are densely packed social events that risk becoming super spreaders.

Wow! Look at the safety measures taken for the SFU event with Ed Yong this week - amazing. This is how to build an inclusive event 👏🏼👏🏼

This is the first time I went to a restaurant in years. Not because it's hard to stay safe but because it's hard for me to see people put themselves in harm's way and I don't like being participatory to it even indirectly. Would prefer to just do this kind of thing in my backyard

Do I share this information with them and have them gaslight me and dismiss me? By doing so it'll make it harder to get them to come along in the future. As they have dug their heels into a position they can't extricate themselves from easily. There's ego at play.

My risk tolerance is much lower than everyone else's and we adapt so that folks can participate in society in a manner that respects everyone's needs for health and safety.

My partner went on a hike with friends/coworkers today. Originally supposed to be 8+ of them. Now it's down to 3. Any guesses why? 🙃 Also this is why I'm adamant that we wear protection outdoors. She'll be with potentially infectious people all day in close quarters.

"What, you think you're better than the experts?" If your expert's solution to managing the pandemic is "be infected some more" then yep I do think I'm better than them. 🤷
