Screw it, here is my mid-term top-32.
Safe to say this is a defence heavy draft, and my list really showcases this. 14/32 players are blueliners!
Shuravin and Vanacker need more attention as a whole. These two are PLAYERS!
It’s that time of year again, with the OHL cup concluded, here are my first round 2024 OHL Draft rankings!
Below ⬇️ is a top-10 breakdown with a video clips and a blurb of info on the player!
Here’s to another OHL draft season!
I cannot begin to explain how happy this makes me. I thought he should have been drafted in 2023.
Excellent move by the Senators organization, and a fantastic story for the 6’7” Toure who just one year ago was vying for a tryout with the Sudbury Wolves.
I’m very happy to announce that I’ll be joining
@mckeenshockey
for the upcoming season as an EU Video Scout.
Thank you to
@BrockOtten
, and everyone at McKeens for the opportunity!
I’m very exited to get to work!
So I made a top-40 ranking for the 2023 OHL draft.
Ryan Roobroeck is the clear
#1
- Really deep year for forward talent.
Outside of Matthew Schaefer, the defenders in this class are rather weak.
Jack Ivankovic is one of the better goalie talents to enter the OHL in a while.
For the first time EVER!
The Germans beat Finland at the WJC!!!
Finland was 25-0 before today.
After Germany’s 4-3 win today, that record is 25-1!!
LETS GO!!
Here are my top-10 OHLers for the 2023 NHL draft:
1. Colby Barlow
2. Tristan Bertucci
3. Quentin Musty
4. Calum Ritchie
5. Nick Lardis
6. Beau Akey
7. Carson Rehkopf
8. Quinton Burns
9. Oliver Bonk
10. Matthew Mania

prospect Zeev Buium is now up to 18 points in 14 games this season in the NCAA after a 4 point night tonight, as a defender.
If he HAS in fact surpassed the 6’0” barrier like it is speculated upon, look for him to shoot up rankings throughout the season.
I’d like to present my preliminary rankings for the 2024 NHL draft.
Couple notes:
People sleeping on Charlie Elick.
Zayne Parekh and Aron Kiviharju aren’t going to live up to the “hype”.
Michael Hage will surprise folk this season given he’s healthy.
Criticism is welcome!
It’s easy to call your shot with first round selections, what’s more difficult is identifying undervalued kids in the mid-late rounds of the draft.
Here is a thread to showcase some of the more under the radar players not enough people are talking about for the 2024 NHL draft.
Highlight of the night courtesy of Landon DuPont as U18 Prep wins 4-1 vs the NWCAA Flames at the 1st annual

U18 Showcase.
U17 Prep Maroon also in the win column in exhibition play after a 7-5 victory vs the Red Deer Northstar Chiefs U17AAA squad.
Ryan Roobroeck with a very disappointing performance at the OHL cup.
He finished with just 2 points in 5 games.
He had a head start to start the year, but one has to think that other talents in Ontario have caught up.
#1
pick in the OHL draft is definitely up for grabs.
Here is a thread essay on 2026 NHL Draft prospect
#24
Viktor Fedorov (Viktor Fyodorov) who was the top forward at the U15 Champions Cup in Russia after putting up 15pts in 7 games.
He is, in my opinion the top 2008 born player in the world at the moment, here’s why:
It’s OHL Draft day!
Good luck to all the kids that have worked hard and are hoping to hear their names called.
I’d just like to say, this is just the start. The work starts now whether you hear your name called or not. Hard work is never overlooked!
Okay the OHL Draft has concluded. Congrats to every kid that was selected the past two days. I hope it was everything you’ve worked hard towards.
Here are my thoughts on every teams draft.
A thread:
Liam Kilfoil will be a top pick in this years
@QMJHL
draft.
He is a two way forward that boasts an impressive shot, skating ability and hockey IQ.
He is currently playing up an age group for the Buffalo Regals in the US.
The NHL should raise the goaltending draft age to 20.
You never see teenage goalies in the NHL and it would give these kids an extra 2 years to develop.
Haven’t done one yet this year, but here are my
@mckeenshockey
regional top-10 rankings for the EU based players I have been following this season!
Complete with short write ups and video below! ⬇️
Windsor is having an insane off-season.
The signing of Ethan Garden only a month after getting him in the 9th round of the draft is crazy.
What a draft the 2024 OHL draft has been for the Spitfires.

Michigan native, Ethan Garden has signed an OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement! 🏒

A kid that isn’t getting talked about nearly enough is Michigan State commit Riley Patterson.
The North York Rangers centre is on pace to have one of the best U17 seasons in OJHL history.

The only one on the ice that expected that pass was Liam’s twin brother, Markus.

#2
the Sarnia Sting select: C - Alessandro Di Iorio
Di Iorio is probably the best goal scorer in the draft. He is able to get up to speed quickly and isn’t afraid to attack the middle of the ice with the puck. Type of kid you want on the ice when you need a goal.
Ivan Matta is poised to headline the 2008 born Slovakian skaters for the

.
He currently has 13 goals and 22 points in 16 games in Slovakia’s U18 league.
With the
#20
pick, the London Knights select: C, Logan Hawery
One of the smartest players in the draft, he has some of the best off puck movement out of any kid in this class. Great at anticipating plays and getting in his spot. Very good playmaker also.
Below is Zachary Morin undressing his opponent.
Shame he plans on going the USHL/College route - he was the favourite to for first overall in the upcoming QMJHL draft.

Here are my first round WHL draft rankings.
A lot of kids that could go
#1
this year. It all depends on the team to be honest and their needs.
Mathis Preston comes out as the
#1
on my list however.
MASSIVE get for Michigan.
He is one of my favourite ‘07’s on the planet. He is just so well rounded already at such a young age. I’d be ecstatic if I was a Michigan fan.
🚨 BREAKING 🚨5 ⭐️Cole McKinney has committed to the University of Michigan! The dynamic offensive forward is our 3rd ranked 🇺🇸 07 and Michigan's first commit of the recruiting season. Significant pickup for the Wolverines!
Learn more about Cole:
One of the best American defenders in his class, Asher Barnett goes to Michigan.
They land the two best players on last years Chicago Mission team, where they also landed Cole McKinney a couple months back.
Michigan gonna Michigan.
🚨 BREAKING 🚨 Michigan lands another 5-star recruit with defenseman Asher Barnett out of Illinois. Barnett is our

In case you were unaware, 16 year old Adam Benák has been playing top-6 minutes and 1st PP time in the top Czech Mens league to start the season.
Impressive would be an understatement.
In just a half hour the first 3 rounds of the 2024 OHL draft will begin. I will be live tweeting the first round this year to see how it goes.
This is a reminder to all the 2008’s, where you’re selected or not it doesn’t matter, this is just a part of your journey. Enjoy it.
Anyone else noticing what Jack Brauti has been doing the last 12 games?
One of the most improved players in the 2024 class since the start of the season.
Strong skater with a heavy shot from the blueline, lots of untapped potential here. NHL teams need to take note.
With the
#1
selection in the 2024 OHL draft, the Windsor Spitfires have officially selected: LW - Ethan Belchetz.
The 6’5” forward lead the Oakville Rangers to an OHL cup victory. He’s a kid that understands how to use his size to his advantage. He’s been called a “Unicorn”

6’7” Djibril Toure is a fascinating player for the

Made his OHL debut THIS season but has tuned heads with his mobility and aggressiveness - looks like he could be a late bloomer.
Rooting for this kid.
Sarnia Sting
The Stings first selection was Ryan Brown. Smart kid that positions himself well for scoring chances. Good motor and skating also. Other selections I enjoyed from this class Include Lane Sim, Casey Bridgewater, James Barr, Nicholas Kosiba, and Matthew Andersen.

The sixth annual one that I've put together with some of the best covering the U16 loop and the OHL Draft. Full First round and 33 HM's.
Olivers Murnieks is now the 5th youngest player to ever score at the U18’s.
Latvia could have a super-talent here for the 2026 NHL Draft.
He scored 34 goals on route to a gold medal for Latvia in 3on3 ice hockey at the Youth Olympics in January.
Olivers Mūrnieks kļuvis par visu laiku jaunāko Latvijas hokejistu, kurš guvis vārtus U18 pasaules čempionāta elitē. Šodienas uzvarā pret Slovākiju viņš iemeta 15 gadu, 8 mēnešu, 27 dienu vecumā. Līdz šim rekordists bija Zemgus Girgensons
I can’t believe just how deep the Swiss 2024 NHL draft class might be.
You have two potential first round talents in Jamiro Reber and Daniil Ustinkov then 6-8 more with legitimate hopes at being drafted.
The Swiss 2006 group is VERY good.
Here’s Reber undressing the Latvians:
YESSSSSS 🤩 Unser DEB-U18-Team 🇩🇪 kann sich in einer nervenaufreibenden letzten Partie gegen Dänemark 🇩🇰 durchsetzen & bleibt ungeschlagen im Turnier 💪🏻 Mit dem Turniersieg steht ebenfalls auch der Aufstieg in die Top-Division fest 🙌🏻🤩 Good Job Jungs!

Matvei Shuravin has gone on record recently and stated he is now 6’4” and he could still be growing…
His father Dmitry who is the sports director of a Russian Volleyball team stands at 6’6”.
Shuravin is the definition of raw and potential.
@German_Spitfire
- 2024 NHL DRAFT SCOUTING REPORT – Matvei Shuravin, D, CSKA Moskva, KHL
Steven breaks down how Shuravin showcased his potential as a defender, who can create offense with his strong transitional play and great first passing ability.
🔗 -
Veit Oswald is a guy that a couple of us at McKeen’s really like.
He doesn’t have much to offer in regard to high end offensive output, but his speed, and buzzsaw approach allow a favourable projection as a bottom-6 guy that can also help on the PK.
Best German in the draft.
What a sequence of events for David Reinbacher here. Stops 2 sure empty netters within 20 seconds.
The second stop he is dead tired yet finds the energy to catch up to the Germans, then dive from behind to stop the sure goal.
Best defender in the 2023 Draft.
Cole Bumgarner, talked about by many as one of the top American ‘08’s in the world is someone to keep track of moving forward. Great size, shot and vision already at only 14. Isn’t eligible until the
#2026NHLDraft
So, all in all Matvei Shuravin is a very impressive defender that is mature beyond his age.
He has a combination of smarts, size, skating and physicality that is going to make him one of the biggest risers as the season goes on.
He may just be the best Russian D in the class.
Should note with this list, i didn’t take into consideration which players are planning on coming OHL.
So even though guys like Nyman, Malhotra, Hawery, Edwards, Croskery, Garden, Kwajah and Hage may not be OHL bound, I included them anyway off their talent alone.
It’s that time of year again, with the OHL cup concluded, here are my first round 2024 OHL Draft rankings!
Below ⬇️ is a top-10 breakdown with a video clips and a blurb of info on the player!
Here’s to another OHL draft season!
1: Ethan Belchetz
There’s not much to not like about Belchetz, the OHL Cup MVP is a potent offensive weapon that is able to effect play in all facets of the game. He uses his size well, moves well and can create offence off the rush. OHL teams are salivating.
Riley Patterson (
#21
Below) has flown under the radar as far as 2024 NHL draft prospects are concerned.
He’s an extremely intelligent two-way centre that boasts impressive vision and smart reads.
I will be exited to see the how he progresses this season for the Barrie Colts.
Canadian underager Porter Martone almost scores an insane goal here for Canada at the
#U18Worlds
Reminder that he isn’t even NHL Draft eligible until 2025!!

Landon Dupont finished the World Youth Championship as the highest scoring defender with 12 points in 8 games on route to a 3rd place finish.
This was a tournament for 2008’s, he is an ‘09!
Expect him to get heavy consideration for exceptional status for next years WHL draft.
Jayden Connors (
#7
Below) of the Mississauga Senators is one of my favourite defenders for the upcoming OHL draft.
He is a shifty, deceptive defender that is one of the best puck movers in the OHL draft.
Below are a few clips from his games at the OHL cup.
Underagers Dustin Willhöft and David Lewandowski leading the way for Germany at the U18 D1A WJC with 6 points in 2 games for each.
Both are REAL promising talents out of Germany for next years NHL draft.
Jamiro Reber who is an underager for this tournament, scores this highlight reel goal against the Latvians to open the scoring.
The Swiss is eligible for the 2024 Draft.
He reminds me of Nico Hischer.
Remember Manny Malhotra?
Well he has a son, Caleb Malhotra that could be a rather high selection in next seasons OHL’s draft.
He’s one of many interesting prospects on the 2008 born Vaughan Kings team.
That concludes the first round coverage from me.
Hope I was able to give some insight on the picks.
Some notable names not yet selected though:
Zach Nyman
Weston Cameron
Maximus Crete
Beckham Edwards
Ethan Garden
Callum Croskery
Alex Hage
Carter Hicks
Kent Greer
Cole Emerton
Stian Sølberg is one of my early favourite players for the 2024 Draft.
His physicality, puck moving ability and his willingness to shoot the puck from the blueline make him an intriguing player out of Norway.
He may not end up being a high end player, but he is a fun watch.
The 2007 age group out of Germany looks quite promising.
Among them is defender Carlos Händel, who is the most promising German defender since Moritz Seider.
He’s a great skater, and has great offensive skills. He will be playing for Malmö this upcoming season.
So in the past 2 games for Kloten in the NL - David Reinbacher has had 4 primary assists to bring him up to 18 points in 33 games.
For comparison’s sake, Roman Josi had 8 points in 35 games In his draft year.

It’s funny to me that 3 of my favourite undrafted players from last years draft in Toure, Stonehouse and Weinstein all earned ELC’s out of camp.
Impressive stuff.
Top 2024 NHL Draft prospect Aron Kiviharju is exploring his options for next season and he will NOT be returning to TPS.
HIFK is the likely destination but he could explore other opportunities.
Aron Kiviharju oli vielä noin kuukausi sitten Tepsin käsissä. Ei ole enää. Lukko ja IFK lähimpänä kaappausta. Myös kaikki muut liigaseurat perässä ja Kanada vaihtoehtona.
Love Carson Cameron. One of my favourite kids in this draft.
Such a poised, calm demeanour, he logs a ton of ice and has a hell of a shot. He is going to be a GOOD one!
Top Swiss talent Daniil Ustinkov (
#3
below) is rumoured to be exploring options in North America for next season.
He is a really interesting talent for the upcoming CHL Import draft.
Smart defender, can move the puck well and has some bery good puck skills.
Erie wins the OHL draft lottery and have top pick in the upcoming OHL draft.
So question is, Will Roobroeck report or do the Otters go Matthew Schaefer?
The Peterborough Petes at
#3
select: C, Colin Fitzgerald
One of the most improved players over the course of the season - Fitzgerald is a centre who’s presence is felt when he hits the ice. He can score from anywhere on the ice, very intelligent player.
With the
#10
selection, the Erie Otters pick: LW, Tyler Challenger
Challenger lives up to his name, he has a fantastic compete level and is always “challenging” his opponents. An excellent complementary piece for a skilled offensive linemate.
My WJC Predictions for this year:
MVP: Rutger McGroarty
Best Forward: Rutger McGroatry
Best Defender: Lane Hutson
Best Goalie: Mathis Rousseau
Gold: USA
Silver: Canada
Bronze: Sweden
Group A is going to be so entertaining to watch this year - not only for the talent eligible for the 2024 draft but also the players that aren’t NHL draft eligible until 2025, AND 2026.

Profiles of who to keep an eye and possible outcomes.
Keep an eye on Vasili Zelenov! Playing in AlpsHL, he's quietly shining with impressive PPG against men.
A key scorer for Red Bull Juniors, he stands out despite teammates up to 4 years older.
He is a talented winger who thrives in creating offense and loves joining the rush!
Really liked Kitcheners draft. Took a couple of good swings. Reid and Romano go in the first. Love Romanos game, reminds me of Robert Thomas. Reid is a great offensive blueliner. Other astute picks include Matheas Stark, Tanner Lam, LJ Mooney, Cameron Arquette and Drew McClennon.
Muskegon tender one of the most talented Latvian talents in the world right now Rudolfs Berzkalns.
I love this move for both the player and the team. 2026 is going to be a great year for Latvia.
