"if you mandated that the entire population had to wear a mask when they went out, all those asymptomatic carriers that are now transmitting it through respiratory droplets it would be much harder for them to transmit it."
Yay! Finally a human genome. Congratulations to this "right-stuff" team!!! Next we want routine, diploid & free for all. (a 92% diploid genome is now $300, but could be <$0 as costs saved via genetic counseling are >$30k when community-averaged)
Given Fauci masking into 2022 (& beyond + next wave + next pandemic), shouldn't we have better masks? Better seals at the edges, full face visible, food & drink without mask removal.

Over 4 decades of Sharon Begley' strikingly clear prose will live on. For half that time, read her work from afar, until our first chat in 2007, then working with her on 48 more stories. I join many who miss her greatly already.

Two SARS CoV-2 clade 20C infections of same patient (no virus or symptoms between): 3/25 & 5/26/2020. The 2nd time hypoxic & required oxygen support. 11 mutational differences.
Thanks Ed. Rapid response capabilities needed: molecular diagnostics, vaccines, neutralizing antibodies, and homes easily converted to off-the-grid full-recycling quarantine-biospheres. Not just for this epidemic, but the next one.
CDC: for medical professionals: "unvalved N95 respirator may be used with a faceshield to help block high velocity streams of blood". For the rest of us: try to do better than a tissue for every breath (not just coughs).
Please don't go out. If you must, then wear a mask. CDC: "covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue". Talking/breathing releases comparable rates of 10-200 micron droplets -- trapped more reliably via tube-bandana than tissue.

We have laws already (much stronger than moratoria). M can accelerate what they intend to moderate (e.g. ESCs & RDNA). Instead: surveillance, enforcement, whistleblower motivation, equitable access, & actual public health issues.

The record compression (using reference genome info) is to 2.5 Mbytes per diploid genome. & one can compress much more using family info, since children can have a hundred changes relative to parents, while two random people have 3-4 million differences.
