Again, he is conflating power with freedom. Rod's views have more power under a leader like Orban, so he calls that freedom, despite the fact that many if not most are less free under such a leader.
Between, "We're not going back", "We choose freedom", and "Those guys are weird", I really think this campaign nailed the messaging out of the gate. Stick to those three, nothing to add.
I know this has been litigated endlessly, but it's still wild for a party to go from Romney/Ryan to Trump/Vance in two election cycles.
There is almost no ideological throughline there. Basically a completely new party.
There are many double standards in politics that favor Democrats, but the biggest double standard in all of politics is the derision with which Republicans can talk about the other party's voters with limited political backlash.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) says there’s a “real risk” Biden forgiving some student loan debt will help Democrats in the 2022 midterms:
“If you are that slacker barista who wasted seven years in college … if you can get off the bong for a minute … it could drive up turnout.”
Perfect example of the "vibes" theory. Post that fries cost $7 and gets 6k likes. Admits this is the marked up delivery price "for the meme". Deal on the same app is $1.14. Admits he has no idea the issue in the great depression was deflation not inflation.

Nobody "dropped" them in. Springfield wanted to grow and recruited businesses who recruited workers. Nearly all those "problems" you note would be present even if these workers were not immigrants. They are the growing pains of a once dying city that is now thriving.

You just have rose colored glasses of your own personal experience as a child and are extrapolating that to make a far broader and patently untrue point. Pure nostalgia.

You didn't know that "containers" were easy to buy or make? "You can hide smaller things in bigger things" isn't a news story.
Just left the Administration briefing on Coronavirus. Bottom line: they aren't taking this seriously enough.
Notably, no request for ANY emergency funding, which is a big mistake. Local health systems need supplies, training, screening staff etc. And they need it now.
so tom brady’s plan was to fake retire, become an executive with the dolphins, bring in sean payton to coach, then unretire but the brian flores lawsuit blew everything up
The same weirdos who earnestly post "what they took from you" with pictures of jocks and cheerleaders dating are furious about a pop star dating a football star.
Bernie Sanders is not a European social democrat. He is an out-and-out Marxist. Upon his return from the USSR in 1988, he celebrated the Soviets moving "forward into some of the early visions of their revolution, what their revolution was about in 1917."

Every generation says that life was better when they were younger. That people were better when they were younger. It's nostalgia. Doesn't make it true.

I've written a book diving into the newspaper archives to look at arguments we can't stop repeating (Nobody Wants to Work Anymore!), things we can't stop blaming (jazz! bicycles!) & more (Cronk!)!

Imagine believing that not only did the FBI conspire with a random 20 year old loser, but that an Assistant Director of the FBI put herself in full view of the cameras and the line of fire just so you could piece it together later.
🔥🚨BREAKING NEWS: The woman in this video behind Donald Trump, where many viewers accused her of ‘giving the shooter instructions’ has allegedly been identified as FBI assistant director Janeen Diguiseppi, this is still a developing story,
I will post an update when one
I'm slightly shocked by how badly Nate is reading this chart. This chart shows that, adjusted for inflation, people's take home pay is higher than ever before (when you remove the COVID stimulus)
It's just kind of batshit insane though to look at data like this, which reflects people's actual take-home income, and act like everything in the economy is Going Great. There's never been an economy quite like this. But a lot of people's balance sheets are in bad shape.
This is that weird tic some Conservatives have where they find it absolutely offensive that someone suggest that voters might agree with some conservative positions.
@whstancil
Again, you are missing the elephant in the room. The argument is his polls are bad and he's physically incapable of vigorously campaigning to try and turn those polls around. Someone else might still lose, but they'd be physically capable of vigorously campaigning.
@EliseStefanik
In this first tweet, you claim you are being prevented from asking questions. In this second tweet an hour later!you are bragging about the questions you asked. How could that be? Is it because the first time was a stunt/lie when you knowingly broke the rules?
This definition from
@thomaschattwill
is essentially "it's not cancel culture when I agree with the cancelation, it is cancel culture when I disagree with the cancelation." The point
@NGrossman81
and I have been making for years now is this is an untenable definition.

I just had a conservative co-worker walk into my office and ask if there were any Republicans in these depositions. He was surprised to learn there were and then really didn’t understand the behavior of Gaetz and company.
Do you remember when you were growing up, do you remember how simple life was, how easy it felt? It was about faith, family, and country. We can have that again, but to do that, we must vote Joe Biden out.

The tweet Ryan quotes does in fact make the lie that Haitians are eating pets. If Ryan is right that most Americans don't support temporary protected status for Haitians, then they should be able to make the argument without this grotesque lie.
At no point in my thread do I mention anything about Haitians eating pets but liberals brains are so broken that they can’t handle that most Americans don’t support inadmissible aliens flooding their cities and towns.

To be clear, you are asking certain people to self-censor because if they don't you feel like other people will feel pressured to self-censor, right?

The mortgage interest deduction means that taxpayers will likely be subsidizing well over $10k of Ilya's mortgage. If he wants to trade that for a one time $10k forgiveness he probably wouldn't qualify for based on his income...let him "identify" his mortgage that way.

Inflation doesn’t mean "prices are high" it means "the rate of price increase over a given period of time". In the month of July, inflation was zero.

You said it would be operating in bad faith for

to ignore the "wild and absurd" Reed letter while leaving room in case it's proven true.
Isn't it bad faith to use the "wild and absurd" letter as a key piece of your reporting while "holding off" on this reporting?

How is it bigoted to suggest that some voters may agree with the conservative position on certain issues? Unless you are calling those conservative positions bigoted?
This is that weird tic some Conservatives have where they find it absolutely offensive that someone suggest that voters might agree with some conservative positions.
Here is Orban on immigration. Whether that's good or right for Hungary is a question that requires expertise about Hungary. Whether that's good or right for America requires no such expertise and should be swiftly and soundly rejected. Compare to Lincoln or Reagan on immigration.
@jimgeraghty
With all due respect, wouldn't you expect a novel indictment for a novel crime? When McConnell said "He didn't get away with anything yet. We have a criminal justice system in this country." what sort of indictment should have been expected?
@bendreyfuss
I agree with Shane's take here and I think it applies to Jesse as well. Jesse has a clear bias in how he views this topic and it comes across in how he handles evidence that confirms his priors vs evidence that challenges it (as well as his focus on the topic)
@SwannMarcus89
People like to say we shouldn't judge a protest for not being perfect. And that's true to an extent. But it's notable that successful protest movements actively sought "perfect" test cases to maximize sympathy and therefore effectiveness.

If we let in as many refugees as we had people willing to house and help them, we'd be letting in a lot more refugees than we do. Not sure Senator Cotton understands that.

The entire point of rights is that they should not be subject to democratic control. You may disagree this is a right, but pretending rights are stronger when subject to state government control is ridiculous.

Just retweeted this. This is why he ruled the way he did. Doesn’t matter if the drafters intended to cover transgender people. What they wrote did.
I feel like people forget that McConnell called Jan 6 "a violent insurrection for the purpose of trying to prevent the peaceful transfer of power after a legitimately certified election..." and McCarthy said “no one would disagree” with that assessment.
"Led to believe" by who? This has been what all reporting has said as soon as the South African data was in. This reflexive need to pretend we were lied to is bizarre.
@binarybits
@mattyglesias
That is absolutely true. I think the fair argument Matt is avoiding is that Hanania is not one of the "reasonable" ones and a gutter racist shouldn't be elevated.
