Time flies!
Moscow 1994 winning OL SILVER as a player.
Almost 30 years later Chennai winning OL GOLD as a coach/team captain.
Very special day in my chess career!
Thank you my super talented Uzbekistan team!
Interesting
@MagnusCarlsen
statement regarding future World Championship...
If I understood it right...
@AlirezaFirouzja
is playing the Candidates...while the rest are playing the World Championship!! :-)
Cheating in chess discussions...
Many claim cheating online is not as bad as OTB.
Sorry!
It is exactly the same!
The ONLY reason online cheaters do not do OTB is they did not (yet) figure out how to do it but -would LOVE to!
Cheating - life time ban!
Game has to be clean!
We are all learning from unusual online games situations.
I love what Magnus just did!
If anyone on this planet has a huge desire to win is MC, but fair play is a must.
This is exactly how online chess must be communicated!
Beautiful it starts from the very top!
Was fantastic to see Fischer/Random being played using the classical time limit!
Games I loved
Kind of chess where pure talent rules!
Interesting to see World top not protected by theory shield getting in trouble within 15 moves!
More respect for greats from 150 years ago?!🤔
Needless to say Kasparov's behavior (compared to Karpov's calmly sitting) is (as it always over the board was) extremely irritating and intentionally aimed to decompose his opponent.
Relatively often I hear comparisons of doping in sports and cheating at chess.
Doping in sports improves your chances BUT (!) you need to work your ass off in gym (!) and still do not have any (!) guarantee of success.
In chess - cheating is easy GUARANTEED win!
NO COMPARISON!!
Yesterday game Karjakin - Firouzja, a display of power (in a positional game!), humiliation for Karjakin.
During my work with Alireza, his ability to play any sort of position was obvious from the very start!!
Speed he is becoming a 'universal soldier' should worry Magnus!
@chess24com
Fischer forfeited quite a number of games 😂
' I got to beat him before he left' is very arrogant.
It is absolutely crazy to think champion like
@MagnusCarlsen
is afraid of people like
@HansMokeNiemann
!!
We simply need to know more!
Opening ceremony and Superbet team ready to rock & roll.
Great when sponsor (Saša Dragić & his wife Augusta) ready to show such keen interest!
@vishy64theking
ready to put any personal interests aside & help the team! Thank you Vishy!
So far rolls on a expected.
I am optimistic!
I remember playing him Reykjavik 2003
Game was drawn
Victor I give you a draw
Me You propose a draw
Victor You are coffee house player like Ljubojevic, like all Yugoslavs
Me If I had privilege like you to learn from Petrosian am sure I would be better player
Hell broke loose
Working with him 2016-2019 period, this abundance of talent, coming like a geyser was pretty obvious.
Am happy his move to France did not stall his progress!
I hope he wins this event!
What a beast Firouzja is! The 17-year-old has now won 5 of his 6 encounters (he lost only in Armageddon to Magnus, though he was winning that game) and will lead today if Aronian doesn't win:

Pity for Ding.
It should be however mentioned that played idea does not belong to him.
It belongs to
@SusanPolgar
, see Polgar-Granda , 1992!
I tried to make Polgar's idea work but did not find the way.
Ding's team worked out interesting improvement (on the idea)!
Wonderful day (for me) to remember.
Am completely convinced not to have been able to pull it off without inspiration my girlfriend (at the time & later mother of my kids) gave me!
From this time distance....feels like - another life!
Wijk aan Zee, 1999 - the 9th round pairing (played 26th January) of
@GMSokolovIvan
& Garry Kasparov, in which the then-Bosnian (later Dutch) grandmaster inflicted a famous defeat on the 13th World Champion.

2 gold medals does not make any sense to me.
Continue the match makes more sense.
Even new match.
'make everybody happy' is how politics often work...
Sport final should have a winner (and a loser)
Seeing first two FIDE GP rounds is obvious that Russian invasion/situation bears on Alexander Grischuk.
Being an honest & noble man he is certainly affected by it!
Firouzja now just one draw away from getting a shot at potentially challenging Carlsen for the 2022 World Championship match. And he is just 18 years old!
I was tested this morning by my friend
@GMSalem_AR
.
I failed and so did Khalifman.
Khalifman played 41. Be6+? trying to build a fortress and lost.
Can you do better?
White to play & draw!
A beautiful idea!
I will post solution in 3 days
It takes some time to remember Magnus losing two classical games in a row.
MC certainly did NOT give up on winning the tournament and making 'Fischer like comeback at Piatigorsky 1966'!
Additional risks are now needed to be taken.
Let's see how this works out!
Can anyone explain to me as to why have such a short deadline for such a high budget event??
Normally you do this because:
A) you already have the organizer, but need to stage a 'show' (can say 'was open for bids')
B) you an amateur and do not understand what you are doing
FIDE is launching the bidding procedure for two World Championship Cycle events to be held in the second part of 2021:
- FIDE Grand Swiss
- FIDE Women’s Grand Swiss
The bids are to be sent by Nov 5, 2020.
Details:
Difficult to explain and message they want to send.
Magnus, one of the greatest ever, seem to think is fun to look like charlatan.
Message can be: online is a joke, does not matter....but $$$... $$$ matter!
(Sponsors)make sure I get paid well!
🇳🇴Carlsen 2881 ½-½ 🇺🇸Nakamura 2829
It is amazing to see people playing against their own style.
Whoever is advising Alireza now....try to understand how he is....!
This type style is NOT for him!
🇫🇷Firouzja 2778 * 🇦🇿Mamedyarov 2758
@EmilSutovsky
@YouTube
Alexander certainly did!
Interviewer(person unknown to me) did his utmost to stop/silence Alexander!
Being an interviewer you should encourage person being interviewed express himself instead of trying to silence him!
I hope organizer of FIDE GP finds someone better for the job
I had about 80 participants yesterday evening at lecture organized by
@ECUonline
.
Lecture I gave was 'doubled c pawns classical Nimzo positions'.
I started with Botvinnik games and build it up to Carlsen.
Botvinnik's strategic ideas hold up to this very day!
I do not think that a year ago Anish would have played here Nfe5 and gone for this intuitive sacrifice!
This sacrifice was not necessary and objectively wrong.
Anish like saw 'safe net' Bg5, but decided to take risk!
This might me a game changer for Anish!!
I love it!
With a warm in my heart I still vividly remember winning the Chennai Olympiad with marvelous Uzbeki boys .....and am super happy to see Nodirbek (steadily & surely!) advancing to the HIGHEST GOAL!!
Nodirbek - success on your journey!!
Convicted (so far) online cheater suing the World champ!
Why not 1 billion?
Why not suing
@chess
.com too (the same thing!) ?
Hans found his way to make worldwide headlines.
Hopefully no settlement and
@MagnusCarlsen
team destroys
@HansMokeNiemann
at the case!
Sad news -Luc Winants has left us.😥
I remember meeting him (at his home in Brussels) and getting shown beautiful Morphy games and RL Siesta variation (Luc scoring great win vs Zoltan Almasi)
Visits ended (like bohemians should) -with wine & chat.
Luc - you will be missed! 😥
Worked very hard today ...even missed football match of Croatia!
Good news- my Opening Course Nimzo Saemisch for White
@chessable
is about 80% done!
Happy with my work!
Many novel ideas!
White is better!
My Candidates prediction is:
@FabianoCaruana
2nd & 3rd choice
@GMHikaru
(he will push hard knowing is his last chance, knowing he will likely beat Ding and he is one of the best fighters ever)
My old student
@AlirezaFirouzja
I wish the best! (remains dear to my heart!)
Observing the classical chess, Fischer random, Casablanca Variation chess....we may safely say that Chess is a game of 64 squares, 32 pieces, that Magnus usually wins!
Hot thing
@lachesisq
&
@Dubovdaniel15
is not an easy call -am happy not to be involved
Did they bring the game in a disrepute?
Perhaps
How about anti Berlin Qe4+ Qe6; Qd4 Qd6?
The same thing!
A new rule-no fixed draws!
Great! Let's do it better!
@FIDE_chess
Fix/define the rules!
Arrived to European Club Cup captaining/coaching Superbet team.
Superbet team is made of super stars ...so....only Champions title counts!
Am optimistic!
Working on Winning Chess Middlegames 1.e4 - will be published by
@NewInChess
later this year.
Started with Sicilians.
Just delivered second chapter -Rauzer.
First one was Sveshnikov.
Traveling to Barcelona
@chessable
studio to record endgame course (I made together with my friend Efstratios Grivas).
Thank you
@chessable
for great professional relationship!
Something is obviously wrong with the FIDE WCh cycle.
Finding ' last minute punching bags' should not be the way to qualify for the Candidates!
Already 2 cycles in a row we are witnessing mascarade.
Small insight of Salem's dedication to chess!
Salem got married (last) Friday evening.
Came to Abu Dhabi CCC around 2pm to work & play training games with me...
Four hours later he said: 'sorry, we need to stop. I will be late for my wedding '😂
Chess in his heart & soul!
Great!
I came across Naka's twitch/you tube chat...An 1100 elo level chat.
Naka than knocks out Carlsen and back to 1100 elo chat.
Impressive!!
Than tense match with Dubov and immediately earphones on and back to 1100elo level.
Impressive!
Those elements are normally not compatible.
@MagnusCarlsen
never before withdrew!
Run of play (all three rounds!)does not indicate to me
@HansMokeNiemann
was cheating.
We obviously need to know more.
Obviously in chess cheating is not 'doping'...
@chess
cheating guarantees a win.
I hope more information will be provided!
Entering the last phase of my Repertoire for White: Saemisch variation vs Nimzo Indian course
@chessable
coming out (very) soon!
I did my best (!) & hope will work for you too!
Strange people are still surprised...
This whole stuff (for a huge majority of participants) is not about chess.
It is about making easy $$$$ without risking any elo and (doing it) not even leaving home...
@ShohrehBayat
@FIDE_chess
NO! Nothing to do with
@FIDE_chess
& nothing to do with Boris Gelfand!
Iranian government is to blame only!
Punishing great player like Amin and treating like celebrities those (minor ones) who (capitalising on wrong Iranian politics) refuse to play Israelis!
Arrived last night to Budapest OL.
Airport - hotel transfer, check in smooth. Well done!
Staying at Danubius Arena.
For this extra night organizers charged us 230,-€ per person.
Checked booking price 73,-€!
Well...there is overcharging and ...' overcharging '
Morning coffee, browsing through some games & came across entertaining king chase.
Black to play.
White is full queen up.
There is no immediate mate...still Black having all the time in the world to mate White's overdeveloped king.
Anyone recognizes the game (played in 1958)?
People that made bookings to time it with last round & playoff...good to know EXPO to be a fun place to be... especially Spanish pavilion...nice restaurant... excellent wines!
I fully agree with you
@jordenvforeest
have already complained too much about this.
Today was a ridiculous day
People adjusting daily obligations tuning in 'not to miss any moment of action' and getting this
Agree-disappointing.
Even not willing to look for 'new drawing' lines😂
@nigelshortchess
Playing 4.Nf3 c5 5.g3 or 4.g3 you (can) reach totally different type positions, so former world ch challenger is making 1500 player type comment😂
According to 'old knowledge ' Black equalized at move 5, because White too early captured on d5 (so Black could trade light squared bishops).
Well.... h4 pawn push was not part of that knowledge.
Curious how game develops
🇳🇴Carlsen 2863 * 🇦🇲Aronian 2767
Just watched 'The Queen's Gambit' 3-7 episodes.
Chess player struggles excellently described!
Now, am not surprised Kasparov was advisor.
Fantastic lead role (and not only her)!
Brilliant!!
Pictured in play at Wijk aan Zee, January 1989 - the 20-year-old Yugoslav grandmaster
