Obvious Joliet/South Chicago area is a hotbed of baseball talent, but it impressive the # of college/pro players that have come out of the Morris, Coal City, Reed Custer, and Wilmington high schools last 5 years, public high schools with a combined enrollment of about 2400 kids.

To date, Coal City lefties Payton Hutchings and Keegan Gagliardo have combined to go 14-1, allowing 6 earned runs in 82 innings pitched (40 and 42) with 125 K's which pencils out to a combined ERA of 0.66 through yesterday's game. Outstanding work by the pair of Coaler southpaws.

Coal City 5 St. Ignatius 6. Coalers took a 4-0 then a 5-1 lead but couldn't hold on. Congrats to St. Ignatius. Coalers run stops at school record 34 wins, I-8 Conference, 3A Regional and Sectional Champs. Came up a few feet short. Love these kids. Seniors, you will be missed.

Coaler lefties on fire. Over a 3 game stretch, Justin Dabulskis, Payton Hutchings, and Keegan Gagliardo combined to strike out 25 consecutive hitters. The stretch included a perfect game and a no-hitter. The 3 have, to date, not allowed a hit to 47 consecutive hitters.

IHSA: Baseball May 3-June 26. Games beginning May 17. Max of 2 dates a week (3 games a week if one date a DH) for 6 weeks. My 2 take aways if things go as planned: 1. We get to play in the warm weather of May and June. 2. We get to play 100% more games than we did in 2020.

Truly saddened for HS baseball/softball kids here in Illinois. Some of these kids have trained all year for these 2+ months.Lost entire 2020 spring to Covid, only half a season last year in 2021 in masks. Now weather just insanely bad, rain/snow/cold. Here's to a better April/May
