I don’t know how to say this, so I’m just going to say it: my husband had a massive heart attack and died yesterday. It hasn’t really hit me yet- the idea that he’s gone makes absolutely no sense. ‘Til death do us part happened way too soon.

3 years ago today, I had the surgery that saved my life. Today marks the last day of my 15 year career in government. I’m joining the team at Moffitt Cancer Center. Someday, there’ll be a cure. In the meantime, I’ll fight for patients & the medical research that’s saving lives.

I googled “how to be a widow.” The results were unimpressive. But friends & neighbors mobilized like the Marines. The house is clean, the lawn’s mowed, & my kitchen looks like the International House of Funeral Food. I don’t know how I’m going to do this, but I’m not alone.

I got my late husband’s ashes today. Not sure where I’ll scatter them. For now, they’re on a shelf being guarded by an icon of St Alexandra and a bottle of Basil Hayden. And I’m grateful for a God who loves all His children, even the messy weirdos.
