This absolutely sucks for Tucson. They have a thriving hockey culture and some of the most dedicated fans I know. Roadrunners games are unique and special, and it sucks they are losing their team.
It is the end of an era in the desert, and it ended abruptly. Wishing the
#Coyotes
fans, employees, and players well with their futures! The Kachina may be removed from the ice soon, but all of their ice designs will live on in the
#NHL
center ice archive!
In an ideal world, the NHL would be one of the voices leading the conversation. In a good world, the NHL would be part of the conversation. In our current world, the NHL is always late to the conversation and they rarely pay attention.
For the past 13 years the Coyotes and Five For Howling have been two of the most important things in my life. I have met some truly amazing people and experienced moments of great happiness and sadness. That all ends next week. If I could, I wouldn't change a thing. - Carl
This scenario where the Coyotes relocate, and Meruelo gets an expansion team just seems stupid. Why would the NHL, the city, or the fans trust him if he has fumbled this badly?
The Coyotes wore their green desert-scape alternates for all road games during that 2000 series. That jerseyโs lone playoff appearance, I believe.
Asked Stan Wilson in May if he remembered a reason for the choice, but he couldnโt recall off the top of his head.

Five For Howling will be going independent at the end of the week, and with that comes a new logo. From artist
@canesgoalkeeper
I present to you the new and improved Five For Howling!
I like how the spot he picked to get angry makes it look like Georgiev just really doesn't like a children's hospital. I can definitely understand the frustration though
Right across from Mullett Arena you have the ASU Desert Arboretum Park. It has a seating area and is currently empty. They could have planned out and had something official here. Even before the sale, just have an end of the season watch party outside your low seat arena
Meruelo you wanna start making shit right with Arizona hockey fans? Announce your intention to buy the Utah Grizzlies and move them to Tucson as compensation for taking their team
@Bmarch63
@MattKalman
Brad I get you're the clap-back guy now, but could you not do this? Attack owners and teams all you want, they deserve it, but the "no fan" shit is garbage.
From gathering signatures outside a library to a projector hooked up to a car in the parking lot, I feel the message from the start of my time covering the Coyotes to the end is the same. Sometimes the fans have to do it themselves.
I vote we call Stepan/Perlini/Fischer the Sunburn line. Firstly because their initials are SPF, but secondly because they're giving the goalie sunburn from the goal lights.
By the way...a thought for your Tuesday.
Remember how apparently Arizona is "too sensitive" about jokes about our hockey team?
This is national media in Canada today. Genuinely.
Poor lambs.
Pro tip. If by now you're still a hockey writer saying "wow, X lost to Arizona!" you are bad at your job, cause this Yotes team can, and is, hanging with anyone right now. Welcome to the new age.
As a Phoenix homeowner I would rather the city not lose a $2.3 billion lawsuit and I would rather they not sue a neighboring city to prevent housing from being built, so if they could drop their lawsuit that would be great in my book
On the way back from tonight's game I was wearing a Coyotes shirt behind a guy in an A's cap in line at the gas station. If QT pulls the footage they can get a great 2024 picture
I just talked with a City of Tucson official:
- Nobody from the Coyotes has had any communication yet with Tucson or the Roadrunners about relocating the team
- Tucson wants to keep the Roadrunners
- The team has two more years on its lease agreement with Tucson Arena
One of the small joys of getting to write about the Coyotes with the groups I have had is having access to licensed photo libraries and finding images that perfectly capture a moment. I am going to miss that
If you didn't suddenly find your eyes getting a little watery at the shots of 6'2, 237lb Alex Ovechkin crying like a baby with happiness just now, you probably have no soul. What a wonderful, wonderful moment.
Thank you
@CraigSMorgan
@leahmerrall
and
@spetershockey
of
@PHNX_Coyotes
for your kind words on last night's episode, and especially thank you for highlighting all of these people who did great work on FFH over the years. It truly meant a lot
Just thinking about how my office is full of Coyotes stuff. Pucks, sticks, rally towels, bobbleheads, yearbooks. Going to be weird looking at that every day
The Coyotes existing allowed me to live out a dream of being a paid writer for a while. That also had a tragic ending, but for a while things were going great
I think this is probably true, that the team was kicked out because they didn't want to commit long-term. However, and this is something we keep seeing, if you give them ammunition like late/missing pymts, you can't be surprised when they use it on you
โI didnโt think Glendale would kick me out, but they did. They wanted a 20-year deal, and I said no.โ
Alex Meruelo addresses some past actions that lead to the team being relocated.
Remember, last season Canadian media was claiming the Coyotes were badly run.
Now Montreal is unloading Galchenyuk here for cut-price, Edmonton is Edmonton, Ottawa is imploding, and Vancouver is about to give Riley Nash top-six money.
It's good to see karma bite hard.
If MacKinnon's helmet comes off today at any point a Coyotes player better pick it up and chuck it at his face. Same if he drops his stick. As Avs fans said last time, it's polite to return someone's equipment
Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment โ owner of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Raptors โ has been named one of Toronto's largest property tax debtors, with an unpaid bill of roughly $1.18 million.
For years every positive Maple Leafs tweet is going to have some random person reply "We want Florida" and that is a fun aspect of hockey you can tell your friends
COYOTES WIN!! COYOTES WIN!! Good defensive play in the last 30 seconds and Kuemper registers his 9th career shutout. What a way to close out the series!
I received an email after this tweet was sent that confirmed what I suspected, Five For Howling will be impacted by this. Right now the plan is to at least have content going until the end of February, and we'll see what happens. - Carl
We're not saying the
@arizonacoyotes
bringing back the Kachina started a trend the rest of the NHL is now desperately trying to follow.
But we're not NOT saying that, either.
Prospect update...so far the
@petesohlhockey
have played 2 preseason games.
Coyotes' Liam Kirk has 3 assists in his first two games in North American hockey.
We can say this already. He's going to be a good one, friends. A very good one indeed.
Rule Britannia.
Coyotes fans did not show enough love to Yandle when he was here. I feel like half my 20s was spent listening to bad Yandle takes at Jobbing .com Arena
Corey Pronman giving the Coyotes an A- for the draft while specifically talking up their first-round picks while AZCentral runs an article that is no analysis and 90% negative quotes is what I've come to expect
The 2023 NHL Draft is in the books. Here is our pick by pick analysis and team grades (individual team files linked within)
Thanks for reading our coverage this season.
COYOTES WIN IT IN DENVER! 3-2 Yotes. Raanta plays very well and holds the fort down for the skaters in front of him. Some stressful hockey to watch but hey, a dub is a DUB
