2. To start receiving our weekly payslips with our pay. There had been reoccurring issues of missing money (with no way of contesting this) and many were left without answers to give the IRD in regards to tax information.

Instead of coming to the table to negotiate, 12 hrs after the email, CG's Wellington decided to mass fire 19/35 of the dancers, publicly on a FB post in our work FB group. Leaving many without anyway to pay bills, rent or put food on the table (some have extra mouths to feed).

In 12 years our cuts have dropped from 80%- as low as 44% in 2023. If these venues cannot run a profitable business without taking over 50% of the earnings of every contractor, then I would argue that their business has been set up with exploitation as a prerequisite for success.

Without protecting their identity, many of our dancers would lose their jobs for speaking out in support of FUS. They cannot even risk liking our social media posts. This represents the excessive power that venues have over dancers. This control doesn’t end in the workplace.

Join us on Saturday! Dancers at The Mermaid Wellington have been trying to improve their working conditions for almost 4 months. The response from the owner was to start firing dancers for standing up for their rights & firing some for not taking their underwear off for free!
