Dreadful situation on the @Luas . A passenger who had paid his €2 fare on a bus and didn’t know he had to revalidate when changing to the Luas (fare already included in the €2) was issued a fine, had his card confiscated, and ticket-inspectors refused to even give their details

Waterford’s Gaeltacht is a small rural community of <2000 people. Against all odds over 1/4 still speak Irish daily there outside school. Dumping unaffordable houses on them as holiday homes for well-off English monoglots is not an answer to the housing crisis, it’s linguicide.

2022 was the year when the last of Britain’s Penal Laws imposed in Ireland were finally repealed. The Administration of Justice (Language) Act (Ireland) remained in place in the north from 1737 to 2022, forbidding use of Irish in the courts. Irish will now have legal status.

I’ve found & continue to find Sinn Féin one of the most welcoming places to be LGBT+. Twitter isn’t great for sorting out issues - I’ve been attacked both for not condemning a tweet I didn’t find homophobic & for doing Leo’s bidding saying homophobia against anyone’s bad. (1/3)

How is this allowed. Not only is the Gaeltacht Minister @jackfchambers refusing to allow Irish be the working language of the new Advisory Committee to plan the provision of Irish language services, now he’s suggesting members might need special allowance to speak Irish at it 😡

The President of the European Commission has no authority to make up foreign policy on behalf of the EU. She and Várhelyi have undermined the careful balance of powers between institutions and member states enshrined in the Treaties. Their positions are no longer tenable.

I actually can’t get over the EU Commission, without any evidence, deciding the thing to blame for violence on our streets was… the Irish language. Straight out of the British Empire playbook. Needless, gratuitous, baseless smearing of a colonised minority. We can’t accept it

The Labour Party, standing for nothing else, now aims to be the political wing of Irish Independent columnists. No big surprise to see anti-Gaeilge policy from a TD who once branded Irish speakers “the Taliban” and refused to apologise. Best ignored. Read Connolly. Gaeilge abú.

Utter madness. Sinn Féin tried to end geoblocking and ensure all island access to public service broadcasting during debate on the Online Safety & Media Regulation Bill, but the government was not interested. You can’t have a shared Ireland with partitioned media. #GFA25
