2 Othentic first started building a different project as an AVS on EigenLayer before they realized deploying an AVS was a heavy lift. There was no abstraction layer for this yet, so many of the components they were building would have to be reimplemented by other AVSs.

Excellent podcast w/ @SuccintJT . Big takeaway: unlike other SNARKS, Lasso/Jolt exhibits economies of scale. Lookups only require a one-time pre-processing cost which is amortized the more a given lookup is repeated. 💡 Breaking circuits into bigger chunks = faster proving times.

4/ Imagine a validator digging through dozens of audits to decide which AVSs they can trust enough. 🫠 That overhead could push validators to offload AVS selection to a larger entity. Not only is this centralizing, but it also creates a big security/reputation hurdle for AVSs.

3/ It's uncommon that Ethereum consensus clients have bugs because they’re well established/audited pieces of software. AVSs are a different story. We're talking about much smaller/newer projects, many of which won't have protocol experts. There will be bugs. 🙂

7/10 ❤️ Configurable erasure coding ratios -- rollups can make the tradeoff between DA costs and security. E.g. a video streaming platform could opt for cheaper DA (less redundancy in the erasure coding) if it's willing to rely on a higher threshold of honest nodes.
