Nebraska No-Middle Defense | In the L10 Games, Nebraska ranked
#7
in Def Efficiency largely because of their No Middle System. Benefits of a No Middle System:
- Limit Paint Touches
- Provides a system for help
- Takes the other team out of their Offense
- Force turnovers

University of St. Thomas runs some really good sets,
@UST_Medina
does a great job. Here are four examples of Horns Exit. Warriors ran the same thing for Klay Thompson.
Want to improve your team's Defense? Watch how Kelvin Sampson's Houston team sells out to every shot contest.
Teams shot 27% on Contested 3's vs. Houston this past season. It can be the difference between winning & losing! Houston has consistently ranked in the top 5 on Defense
Indiana St | Advantage Offense | Josh Schertz’s team had the highest EFG% since the 2020-2021 season.
Keys to their historic offense:
1. Spacing
2. Creating the advantage (Forcing 2 to the ball)
3. Reading the advantage. On Ball (0.5 decisions) & Off Ball (Spacing vs Cutting)
Uconn Chin Series | Coach Dan Hurley talked on the
@OldManAndThree
Podcast about how they layer actions on top of their original formation. Here is another great example of how Uconn utilizes multiple reads/actions on its formations. Great set with multiple reads!
Bahamas National Team 3-2 Matchup Zone | In 25 possessions this zone gave up 0.565 PPP. Forced tough contested 3s and on baseline passes/drives turns into a 2-3 where everything is funneled to Ayton at the rim. Great change of pace D to throw O off rhythm!
Texas A&M Offensive Rebounding | A&M had the highest OREB% since 2013 (42.3%). One of the major reasons for their success on the glass is they teach & emphasize tipping rebounds that they can't get with two hands. One guy to tip it, one guy to get it! Houston & A&M do this better
To celebrate the holiday, here is one of our favorite plays: the classic Belmont Panic Backdoor. Wake Forest got two layups in late-game situations running this action. It's a great late-game play to add to your playbook to get an open layup!
Drake Head Coach Ben McCollum was a 4X National Champion at the D2 level and consistently ranked as the
#1
offense year in and year out. Nothing complex but actions like this that manipulate the defense/tags. They set a Middle PNR and the tag guys man cuts for a wide open dunk.
Princeton | Zoom Slip | Simple but effective action here for teams that run 5-Out/Zoom Action. Slipping out of the off ball Gd-Gd Pindown causes confusion and leads to an easy layup!
San Antonio Spurs | Two minutes of unselfish ball movement that was a cornerstone of the multiple NBA title runs. You can have all the X's & O's in the world, but the Spurs showed that there is nothing like having guys willing to share the ball & make the right play. Ball
Another action from Ben McCollum’s historic offense at NWMO | Stagger - Flip - Overload Short | Baseline cut to overload occupies the Long Roll tag. Having the shooter lifted high occupies the Short Roll tag. Great action to manipulate the defense to open up the Short Roll!
"Hot Stove" screen is a great way to attack drop coverages or switches to get underneath the defense. The subtle push creates separation. KJ Adams is one of the best in college at utilizing this screen.
Exit Screens are a great way to occupy off-ball defenders and manipulate tags. Here are some of our favorite Exit Screen actions from the 22-23 NBA season!
Fenerbahce is one of the best in the world at running Spain action. Check out these clips of different ways they get into the action, as well as the different reads based off the defense.
Love this quick hitter from Princeton. The slip action causes the defender to help for half a second on the Roller & opens up the Stampede catch to get the Guard going full speed to the rim. Great set to run to get one of your players down hill.
Pick & Roll Lob Threats:
When sprinting out of screens and diving to the rim, rollers are essentially wide receivers.
One of the most important visual skills for wide receivers & lob catchers is tracking.
The ability to see the ball and catch the ball is essential.
Our First Announcment: We are excited to add
@mileslester23
to the team who spent 1 year playing at Rice and the last 4 years with
@WakeMBB
. Miles will be posting a variety of film on the account so make sure to give us a follow to check those out!
Legendary Coach Obradovic always has one of the best offenses. His teams are well coached in their spacing and 0.5 decision making. Here are a few clips of Partizan last season. Multiple high PNR's with off ball action.
What made Ben McCollumn's Offense so historic over the past few years? Spacing & Reads. Simple plays like this - big helps on the P&R, Offensive big flashes to open space. The tag guy comes to help & his guy corner cuts for an open layup. Spacing + Reads = Effective Offense
Kelvin Sampson's Culture + Jarace Walker's athleticism leads to this high-level shot contest in Houston's big victory last night.
Walker finished with 19 Pts, 6 Rebs, 2 Asts, 1 Blk, 1 Stl in 30 minutes. The 5-star freshman is averaging 13 & 7 on 51% shooting through 4 games.
Coaches: Need a Quick Hitter against teams that like to Hard Hedge? Great action here from Houston to eliminate the tag and get an open look for the Roller
Summer League ATO of the day | Phoenix Suns | Pop Right Spain | Interesting wrinkle on Spain action here as the Suns bring the corner guy to set the Spain screen which makes it difficult for the defense to tag. Great wrinkle for PNR actions!
Coach Mody Maor of the NZ Breakers spoke recently on
@SlappinGlass
about the concept of layering multiple actions in their Flow Offense. This possession is a perfect example of their multiple actions. Gd-Gd Mid P&R - 4 man in a corner P&R - 4 man scoring off a Short Roll.

Summer League ATO of the Day | Great Elbow Split action from the Cleveland Cavaliers last night who were SL champions. An open 3 off the Fade action and an easy backdoor layup as a counter the 2nd time. Good ATO action with multiple options!
A recent trend in the NBA is to Stampede (on the run catch) teams that utilize heavy help principles. This is a great action to counter teams who have a heavy nail or gap help as well as teams that jump to the ball hard.
Atlanta Hawks HC Quin Snyder Backscreen Series
In his short tenure with the Hawks, he has used his usual Backscreen action that was common in Utah but has also added in a Spain Backscreen play that got the Hawks a wide open dunk in Game 5 against the Celtics.
Iowa United 16U Loop Rip Pin | Great set & execution to get a shooter a 3! Not often we see this level of execution at the AAU level but s/o to

Alabama does a great job of emphasizing spacing and attacking the rim. Because of this, they get a ton of “shrink 3’s.” As the defense collapses they kick out and make the right play.
A question a lot of coaches face late game is whether to double the ball or not. Here are some examples of late game doubles working to the benefit of the defense.
Stan Van Gundy said something crucial for players at all levels. Every team has 2-3 players whose job is to score.
Playing Time & Value = How you can impact winning & excel in your Role.
HS Recruits: Coaches evaluate how you can help them win, not if you can score 30 on 20+ shots
Indiana St | Stack Out Flare | Great quick hitter to take advantage of what is an automatic for most defenses - jumping to the ball on the pass. Simple but effective Need a 3 play!

Wake Forest | Stagger - Ghost - Step Up Bunch | Great action here to move around the defense and confuse the tag. Shooter lifted high with 2 guys bunched together on the Strong Side. 3 different options that resulted in 3 baskets off this set!
NINERS Chemnitz just won the Europe Cup. Here is one of their favorite early offensive actions. If the initial action doesn’t generate a look, they will flow into an empty side ball screen.

Another layer to the Alabama offense is playing through their bigs in “Get” actions. At any point within the offensive possession the “Get” can happen. Constant movement makes them hard to defend.
Memphis Hustle | Twirl into Smack Action (Exit Screen) into Spain PNR | Great set here from Hustle HC

Elite defensive system to get stops, disrupt offenses and force
Zhejiang CB starts the game with a Weave Shallow Cut action. Get another look 2nd half. Reminded us of a very similar concept from Niners Chemnitz that Slappin Glass posted a few years back. Great action to confuse who takes the roller.
