Less than 72 hours after @BelfastTrust held a HR/trainee workshop designed to improve working relationships, this sign was erected in the EMSU. Absolutely unacceptable. Further evidence of a cultural problem in the Belfast Trust. I hope HR will respond appropriately.

If a doctor wrote this about a nurse/porter/ physio room they’d be hauled over the coals. I’m so fed up that any staff member thinks they can do this.

Regarding my last tweet. I have also written notes in foul temper. Once I wrote ‘fix fy2 rota’ on the suggestion board in a very busy ED which resulted in the suggestion board being removed and me getting absolutely laid into my a consultant for ~45 mins about ‘professionalism’

The GMC National Training Survey results suggest that 68% of NI doctors are at mod- high risk of burnout. With 59% of NI trainers at mod-high risk of same. This is catastrophe waiting to happen. We need to have a serious conversation about how to tackle this head on.

Another suggestion would be to open a dialogue with your doctors who are likely to give you a wide range of suggestions for improvement. The decision to ‘validate data’ in the way you have chosen will only undermine and undervalue. You’ve gotten this one wrong.

What I would say to Dr Todd is this: The health service we work in now is entirely different to the one you trained in and spent your consultant years. The pressures are very different. I respect that in your training days strike would not have been necessary…

Welsh JDC Chair @ObaBabsOsibodu presents a motion calling for a review into resourcing for the devolved nations. DNs are carrying out important work with specific peculiarities (different laws, terms and conditions of service) with less resourcing than our English counterparts.

..but they are absolutely necessary now. Our profession is being walked over. Our colleagues aren’t able to properly do the jobs we were trained to do due to these pressures. We don’t have a firm, we don’t have rest facilities as standard. Many of us don’t have a locker!

@SaraONeillArt Thanks for raising this Sara. You are completely right. The constant ‘but that’s more than what I have’ is astounding. Doctors have huge debts from medical school, and we fund lots of our own training. It costs us money to go to work!

This is not a race to the bottom. We have been shouting about the difficulty recruiting and retaining doctors here. If docs are saying it’s not enough to stay, don’t say ‘Can you not like on what you have?’, why should we? If you want a health service then pay for it.

I personally know many colleagues who will never get to have an almost 50 year medical career like yourself, because they’ve had to leave the profession altogether due to the ill-effects on mental and physical health, burnout and the moral injury they’ve sustained.
