We pray every night that the Lord would redeem, guide, and bless his Church. How desperately the world needs to see Jesus in his radiance and his disciples reflecting it with all the gifts of the Spirit in the midst of so much viciousness.

Please, Mr. President -stop these tweets to the mayor. It's embarrassing, inappropriate, and shocking. Extend the hand of friendship instead
I saw this Dark-eyed Junco two days ago at Elena Gallegos Open Space in the foothills of the Sandia Mountains, here in Albuquerque. These birds will winter here and I'm always glad when they show up.
This gorgeous bird was perched in the pyracantha tree above my driveway when I pulled in today. Luckily, I had my camera handy. He's a Western Tanager.
Oh man - I haven't been on Twitter for weeks! I have sinned against you, my Tweethearts. I've been taking photos like a fool, though. Most of the autumn colors are now gone, but there was some lingering gold reflected on Tingley pond, illuminating this Wood Duck.
I saw this Bullfrog yesterday in a pond near the Rio Grande. I shot a few photos not thinking much about it, but when I imported them into Lightroom I was blown away by the frog's crazy beautiful eye. Whaddya think?
@realDonaldTrump
That's right, Mr. President - kick 'em while they're down! Excellent strategy to threaten them with taking away Fed payments. If only there was a way for you to take away insurance from those who lost homes . . THAT would teach them!
This is a Rufous Hummingbird. Lightning fast, aggressive, and cranky. They find a hiding spot from where they can survey their domain and pounce on any other hummer who tries to eat from the nectar feeders, or flowers, or whatever. Definitely not Christian birds.
Good Morning, my Tweethearts. This is a photo I took last year. The bird is a Cedar Waxwing. He was coming in for a landing at my water fountain and stayed suspended for just a few brief seconds. The dark patio behind him made for a beautiful backdrop.
Good Morning, Tweethearts. This morning while drinking my coffee, I looked out the window and saw this funny sight. Some Eastern Bluebirds and Cedar Waxwings perched on Joni and Milo's water dish, drinking their fill. Milo sat at the window, growling in their general direction.
There are just a few lingering hummingbirds hanging around my yard before they head south for Winter. This one was getting her fill from the Agastache flowers this morning. She's a Black-chinned Hummingbird.
Hi, this is Ruby, Fernando's daughter. This is a photo that my dad took on the way to go fishing. So dad let me edit it. This is my second time editing a photo, tell me what you think.
Almost every evening the Sandia Mountains turn this color at sunset. When the Sandhill Cranes lift up to fly to the river, it makes the scene even more stunningly beautiful. I love New Mexico - mi Tierra Encantada.
I was super lucky to round a corner at Valle De Oro this morning catch sight of this Cooper's Hawk. They don't usually let people get very close, but I got within 15 feet of this guy and he didn't seem to mind at all. Gorgeous, isn't he?
This bird is called a Bushtit. There. I said it. Deal with it. This particular Bushtit is a female, which you can tell by the eye color. Males have dark eyes. I took the photo in my front yard.
Man - all of a sudden I've got scores of Eastern Bluebirds showing up in my yard all day long. They're after the berries on a bush I have called Burkwood Viburnum. The bushes have been planted for about 10 years now, but this is the first time I've noticed the bluebirds. Awesome!
I wrote this song for Billy Graham a few years back. Having been a guest in his home a couple of times, seeing evidence of his legacy, I wondered what his prayers and thoughts must be like as he neared the end of his life.
I've been waiting a few weeks for the Bullock's Orioles to make an appearance in my yard. They finally showed up today en masse, well, maybe not en masse, but there were 4 of the beautiful things taking turns at the oriole feeders. Their color is shockingly bright and beautiful.
Today was an awesome day to photograph birds. This Woodhouse's Scrub-Jay is pretty darn beautiful. I took the photo in the foothills of the Sandia Mountains here in Albuquerque today.
Now thank we all our God, with heart and hands and voices,
Who wondrous things has done, in whom this world rejoices;
Who from our mothers’ arms has blessed us on our way
With countless gifts of love, and still is ours today.
I am fairly certain this is a female Rufous Hummingbird. I'm waiting on confirmation from a friend of mine who knows everything about birds. I took the shot late yesterday afternoon when the light was almost gone. I had to get very close to the bird to make it work.
Hey folks. Sorry for the long absence. Something went crazy wrong with my account and I couldn’t post anything for awhile. I somehow got locked out. Anyway - I’m back. More brilliance tomorrow.
I had a ton of photos on a hard drive that got corrupted. Sent the thing off to a data recovery place (RIP-OFF!) and got the photos back. Heres a photo I'm glad to have back - Cedar Waxwing in my back yard.
During my quiet time this morning I felt led to remind you all that both “incase” and “alot” are TWO words, not one. So, “in case” and “a lot”. As I prayed harder, I felt the urge to go on a fast until we as a nation start spelling stuff right. So, rats. I’m really hungry now.
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus Christ, my righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand
This raven took off from my neighbor’s fence today as soon as he saw me approaching with my camera. . There were literally hundreds of ravens in the trees and on the ground. It was noisy, wild, raucous , spooky, like a certain Hitchcock movie.
Look at this Meadowlark! I wish you could hear him sing. It's a very charming and sweet song. There are scores of them in the fields around here right now.
It worked! I now have 5900 Twitter followers! My domination over the universe is now complete. What will I do with myself now? I guess I'll go practice piano. Good night!
I was able to get within just a few feet of this guy - a male Northern Flicker. I hope to get a decent shot of one in flight, because the colors are spectacular.
Denizens Of Twitterlandia ... Happy New Year! Albuquerque got a significant snowstorm on New Years Day. Last night it got down to 6º! Anyway - birds have been super active in the snow. 1) Dark-eyed Junco 2) Yellow-rumped Warbler 3) Ladderback Woodpecker 4) Spotted Towhee
I drove down to Isleta, New Mexico yesterday to photograph some Bald Eagles that winter there. I saw one adult and two juveniles. These are photos of the juveniles. When they mature, they'll have the white head and tail. And no - these are not Golden Eagles.
I spent the afternoon at Bernardo Wildlife Sanctuary near Belen, New Mexico. Hundreds and hundreds of Sandhill Cranes winter there. These fellows were taking off right at dusk.
I'm lucky in that I get to see both Western and Eastern Bluebirds in my yard. This knucklehead is a Western, as evidenced by his blue hood that extends down to his rufous breast. An Eastern Bluebird has a rufous throat and has a New York accent when he swears.
I was photographing birds in my yard yesterday when I looked through the dining room window and saw my daughter Ruby sitting at the kitchen table, reading a book.
When I die, I would like to go peacefully, in my sleep, like my grandfather did. Not screaming and yelling like the passenger in his car. - Jack Handey
It’s sweet to find this photo of Eugene Peterson holding my daughter Ruby on his lap when she was just 9 months old. We were staying with Eugene and his wife Jan at a lake house belonging to Rick and Debbie Christian. Rick was Eugene’s literary agent.
Valle De Oro is the largest urban National Wildlife Refuge in the U.S. of stinkin' A. Right here in Albuquerque, by golly! I watched an intense rainstorm set its sights on the park a few days ago. Gorgeous and dramatic. I fled the premises before the storm landed.
I love these Mountain Bluebirds that are so common up at Valles Caldera National Wildlife Preserve in the Jemez Mountains of New Mexico. The blue is unique.
This be a Mountain Bluebird that I photographed at Valles Caldera, New Mexico last year. These birds are an unbelievable sight when they dart across the road - kind of a shock to the eyes. Global warming is beginning to affect the natural habitat of these birds.
I opened the back door this morning to let my dog out, looked up and saw this Red-tailed Hawk staring down at me from the cottonwood tree. I ran inside, grabbed my camera and managed to get this shot of his Royal Awesomeness.
This perspective of a female Rufous Hummingbird reveals the colorful tail feathers from underneath - purple, green, orange and blue - quite an array. The gorget (shiny throat feathers) are iridescent orange and they really glint in the sun. The male is even more impressive!
This be a Summer Tanager - the only all red bird in North America, or so I've heard. His beak is yellow, though, so who knows if those Audubon folks have a clue. I took the photo in my front yard a couple of hours ago.
These birds are called Rosy-Finches. The first photo is of a Black Rosy-Finch and the second is of a Brown-capped Rosy Finch. I took the photos at the crest of Sandia Mountain just outside of Albuquerque, New Mexico. These birds will be headed north very soon.
The sunset was entrancing this last Sunday at Bosque Del Apache National Wildlife Refuge here in N.M. Along with a bunch of fellow birders, I stood on the banks of a marsh and watched Sandhill Cranes land in the pink and orange water where they'd spend the night.
This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.
”Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
Hello - please read my note in this link. I had to resort to raising funds to complete my new EP. I realize it's a little unusual and I hope no one is offended. I've never done anything like this and I hope I don't have to again. Any help is appreciated!
Some people don't like my politics so they block me or dump me. It's really bums me out. I would never block anyone because they had different convictions about who should lead the country. If they say vile things, then yes, I usually mute or unfollow.
Ruby and I went to Santa Fe last week. It was pretty cold and she didn't bring a decent jacket so I bought her a blue alpaca poncho from a street vendor. I took this photo of her on a street just off the plaza.
This Western Tiger Swallowtail flew into my yard a couple of days ago and went mad for the flowers on the Vitex tree. Check out how the spots at the bottom of his tail play on the colors of the flowers.
Traveling all day and worn out. Haven’t stopped thinking about the Graham family and their loss. I was privileged to perform in this video on the occasion of Ruth Bell Graham’s passing several yrs ago.
