Did you know TTYD handles its 2D Bowser sections exactly the same way SPM handles its 2D/3D modes? This means you can change one memory value to make the game orthographic and it actually looks pretty cool in battle

@wariocolosseum this artwork fascinates me nobody even knew it existed until AFTER the remake dropped, when it was found in an obscure strategy guide for the original, THEN a photo of Nintendo NY promoting the remake surfaced and this render was on one of the TV screens. Never resurfaced.

I have no idea why people say the M&L series was stagnant, other than in Paper Jam DT borrowing elements from BIS is not stagnation. It's iterating on ideas that worked. It's no more derivative of BIS than PM:TTYD was of PM64.

@wariocolosseum Wouldn't surprise me. The Zeekeeper render is also only available as a scan from a strategy guide (which coincidentally I was the one who scanned it) and a BIS guide has TINY renders of most enemies/bosses (not sprites). They have never been seen bigger.

@ArtistRemaining I still have no idea why nobody counts BIS Yeah Mario and Luigi are there, but they spend most of the game playing a supportive role to Bowser, even when playing as them. Fawful primarily antagonizes Bowser. The final boss is Bowser facing a dark copy of himself.

I love the more faithful remake we got, but I will say I wouldn't have minded this environment-wise (+ the bg hills straight up look better here imo). In terms of character sprites though yeah hell no I'm so glad TTYD's rigged models with 2D shaded pieces returned
