The destruction that
#HurricaneHelene
left in its 800-mile wake is horrific. Agricultural producers in affected areas have had their farms, livestock, homes and livelihoods swept away, and many lack any form of safety net to soften the blow.
So far this year, we’ve distributed nearly a million dollars ($971,500 to be exact!), including $154,000 in direct emergency, disaster and strategic grants and $817,500 in funding to 86 non-profit farm organizations.
We are thrilled to announce

On the Road will take place on September 26! Join us for our 35th anniversary with a virtual at-home festival experience.
The seeds are free for any Cherokee; this year, recipients are limited to two varieties because demand is so high. Last year, the bank sent 4,905 packages of seeds to citizens of federally recognized Cherokee tribes. This year, they will distribute a record 10,000 seed packets.
The Cherokee Nation's seed bank has about two dozen varieties of traditional crops, collected during travel throughout the U.S.
The seed bank's efforts have become about preserving more of Cherokee culture — not just the plants, one organizer says.

A heartbreaking look at dairy crisis.
"This year, Wisconsin... had lost 382 dairy farms by August; last year, the number at the same point was 283. The despair is palpable; suicide is a fact of life, though many farm suicides are listed as accidents."
Farm Aid has raised nearly $80 million to promote a strong and resilient family farm system of agriculture. As
#FarmAid2024
continues, we invite you to listen to great music and learn more about our work: .
Today we're thinking of everyone touched by the music of

We're very sad to learn of David Crosby's passing at age 81. We were honored to have him on the Farm Aid stage multiple times as part of CSNY, including for this performance of the classic "Almost Cut My Hair" written by him in 1970.

Marty Derks wouldn’t usually spend 8 hours on a Sunday grinding corn, but when the Canadian farmer received a call from a local distillery that needed 2 tons of corn to be fermented for hand sanitizer for 1st responders, he got to work. ♥️
We are grateful for the life of John Prine, and so so glad we will always have his music.
We shared our things
And had some fun
Now we'll say goodbye
And go back home when the day is done ♥️
"Cargill, which has 14 billionaires in its ruling circle in 1 of the largest concentrations of wealth in any family-controlled business, declined to comment on the payout." Meanwhile we don't need to remind you how farmers are faring in the farm economy.
"Chris had received counseling through Avera’s farming program and thought of reaching out again before he died. The last Google search on his phone was 'farmer crisis hotline.'"
“We’ve heard from farmers that they can’t wait the months it takes for disaster assistance to come. We have too few family farms left to lose even one to a weather disaster.” ––
