This is balanced scholarship. Since I first met Shaykh Yasir many years ago, I have respected his balance, thoughtfulness, and deep concern for the Umma and the greater good. We may differ on some details, but he is someone to respect and admire. May Allah bless and protect him.

It’s a huge problem to make this trivial issue into a distressing issue. Islamic law has always had diverse views, since the time of the Companions. Follow what your local Shaykh tells you on this matter, and respect other opinions as well.

The executions in Egypt are deeply troubling. Justice is balanced judgment that protects rights and prevents wrongs. This is not “just.” And some statements regarding religious groups are beyond imbalanced. “Be just: it is closer to piety,” Allah says in the Qur’an.
