Both Brendan Fraser and Ke Huy Quan disappeared from Hollywood after the system turned its back on them, Fraser for speaking his truth and Quan due to a lack of opportunities for Asian actors. Both getting embraced last night was powerful and cathartic. They deserve the world.

KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON's nomination not including Cara Jade Myers, William Belleau, Talee Redcorn, Yancey Redcorn, Tatanka Means, and so many others yet including almost all of the significant white actors because of some arbitrary billing rule honestly hurts.

, I can confirm that the order should be BARBIE first, then OPPENHEIMER, but give yourself a break in between. Give both movies room to breathe. Have all the emotional fun with BARBIE, let it soak in, then see OPPENHEIMER and sit with the weight of it.
*FOUR* films shot by Sayombhu Mukdeeprom in one year, we feasting!
CHALLENGERS (dir. Luca Guadagnino)
TRAP (dir. M. Night Shyamalan)
GRAND TOUR (dir. Miguel Gomes)
QUEER (dir. Luca Guadagnino)
Thankfully was warned not to read the Vulture review for KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON. Spreading the word to make sure others avoid it so they don't get spoiled. It's sad to see some critics have such little respect for their readers and the films they're reviewing like that.
OPPENHEIMER shook me to my core. Christopher Nolan's most dialogue-heavy film, his most in-depth character study, but also his most suspenseful film to date. The tension is more stressful than most horror films I've seen.
Leslie Grace was incredible in IN THE HEIGHTS. BATGIRL was supposed to be her chance to become a bonafide movie star. WB is taking that away from us. And I will not stand for it.
#ReleaseTheBatgirlMovie
Yet another year of no animation represented outside of Best Animated Feature. That Best Original Score category is vapid without SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE and THE BOY AND THE HERON. Insanity.
The fact that films like ANATOMY OF A FALL, THE BOY AND THE HERON, and MONSTER cannot be nominated for Best International Feature because of some silly one-film-per-country rule is complete and utter nonsense.
@Shivmoviemaiden
I disagree. I don't think that people are only focusing on the narratives behind their comebacks as a reason to award them. The performances that Fraser and Quan gave in their respective films moved a lot of people and I think they would have won those awards regardless.

Inglourious Basterds is only 30% in English and it was nominated for Best Picture. There's literally more English dialogue in Minari.
I'm going to watch TO LESLIE before I comment on if Andrea Riseborough deserves the nomination or not. But I think it's valid for people to call out the white privilege that comes with that grassroots campaign coming at the expense of either Danielle Deadwyler or Viola Davis.
If I were to add a nom to each Oscars ballot:
Best Picture: GLASS ONION
Director: S. S. Rajamouli, RRR
Actor: Jr NTR, RRR
Actress: Danielle Deadwyler, TILL
Supporting Actor: Steven Yeun, NOPE
Supporting Actress: Janelle Monáe, GLASS ONION
If I were to add a nom to each Oscars ballot:
Best Picture: WOMAN KING
Director: Gina Prince-Bythewood, WOMAN KING
Actor: Jonathan Majors, DEVOTION
Actress: Keke Palmer, NOPE
Supporting Actor: Harry Melling, PALE BLUE EYE
Supporting Actress: Julia Stiles, ORPHAN: FIRST KILL
I don't trust the Academy to be bold enough to do this, but...
James Hong has never been nominated for an Oscar despite over 650 film and TV credits to his name.
He's fantastic in EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE.
It'd be nice if he got some love this season. Just a thought.
Performances that deserve

consideration include:
Danielle Deadwyler
Dolly de Leon
Ralph Fiennes
Brian Tyree Henry
James Hong
Stephanie Hsu
Janelle Monáe
Ke Huy Quan
N.T. Rama Rao Jr.
Mark Rylance
Tang Wei
Michelle Yeoh
and many more.

I still cannot comprehend the criticism that INTERSTELLAR is an emotionally cold movie. I can understand if the execution doesn't work for you, but this movie wears its heart on its sleeve and is arguably Nolan's most vulnerable film.
I can finally gush about how C'MON C'MON is one of the best films of the year! Joaquin Phoenix delivers a vulnerable performance along the lines of his brilliant work in HER while Mike Mills delivers a heartwarming story with specificity and nuance. Loved every minute!
The scene they showed us from DUNE: PART TWO tonight was simply unreal! I have always been in awe of how Denis Villeneuve captures scale in his movies, but this looks to be unparalleled, especially in IMAX. This movie can't get here fast enough!

Category fraud aside, I love that Keke Palmer is getting her flowers for her *tremendous* performance in NOPE. If the Academy is worth their salt, they would nominate her in a heartbeat... in Best Actress.
You can like THE HOLDOVERS while also acknowledging how fucked it is that it's director keeps getting nominations and praise despite being accused of statutory rape.
FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION

Daniel Craig, GLASS ONION

When it cuts back to Jupe and you can clearly see the pain that he still carries with him but somehow manages to hide it, just incredible!

It's also the biggest opening weekend for a movie that is about tennis, even matching the entire domestic run of King Richard which had a similar budget.

You do realize that they deem a film eligible for Best Foreign Language Film and not Best Picture if over 50% of the film is not in English. By that logic, both Inglourious Basterds and Babel should have been ineligible for Best Picture.
ANORA seems to be the first Cannes title to get near unanimous praise out the gate and I suspect we're gonna get another one later today in PARTHENOPE.
Dude, let it go. Trying every way imaginable to undercut the incredible success that EEAAO had at the Oscars. No, AIR would not have stopped a 7-time Oscar winning movie.
Knives Out is absolutely outstanding. My favorite
@rianjohnson
film to date. Many scenes will be stuck in my head for months. Hilarious, insanely clever, packed with surprises and subversions in all the right ways. Agatha Christie would be proud.
#KnivesOut
Emma Stone delivered the performance of a lifetime in POOR THINGS. It is her best work and the character of Bella Baxter has meant the world to so many people, myself included. This was a close race in a terrific category, but I believe that the best performance won.

The Academy is reportedly looking at whether or not Andrea Riseborough’s grassroots campaign violated Oscar campaign rules.
The issue will also likely be raised at the board of governors meeting this Tuesday.

He did speak the truth. I did not mean anything otherwise by what I said. I was using that phrase because when he did speak out, he was ignored. But he knows the truth better than anyone. And no one can take that away from him.
My top 5 current favorites are:
1. Brendan Fraser, THE WHALE
2. Colin Farrell, THE BANSHEES OF INISHERIN
3. Daniel Craig, GLASS ONION: A KNIVES OUT MYSTERY
4. Ralph Fiennes, THE MENU
5. Jr NTR, RRR
THE BOY AND THE HERON took my breath away. A perfect blend of Hayao Miyazaki's fantastical ambitions and his poetic personal storytelling. Beautifully animated, masterfully scored by Joe Hisaishi. If this is Miyazaki's final film, then he went out on an absolute triumph.

DUNE is one of the most breathtaking spectacles I have ever seen. Denis Villeneuve's signature slow burn direction combined with Greg Fraiser's grandiose imagery bring the first half of this sprawling epic to vivid life. It's a mind blowing sight to behold.

POOR THINGS is a masterpiece. Yorgos Lanthimos, Tony McNamara, and Emma Stone have crafted an instantly iconic character with Bella Baxter. A hauntingly hilarious, wholly unique tale that navigates a cynical world through fresh, optimistic eyes. The best film of the year.

On a more positive note:
ANATOMY OF A FALL got every nomination it was longlisted for.
My theory that this could sneakily become a top 5 Picture contender is manifesting.
@ZoeRoseBryant
Literally an embarrassment of riches in that category.
Genre films have actually had some of my favorite performances this year. I know the Oscars have resistance against those types of films, but I hope to see some love thrown towards these performances in particular.
There's a very real chance that this year could be the first time that we have TWO international features nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars.

They played a new trailer for OPPENHEIMER. It was absolutely captivating. Looks more in line with Nolan's earlier work like THE PRESTIGE and MEMENTO. Cillian Murphy looks incredible.
