A poignant life-size statue of a World War One soldier is standing proudly in an Erewash churchyard – after being made entirely from crochet. The astonishing tribute is the work of Stanley Common mum Jilly Crofts, known locally as “The Crochet Queen”.

Garden waste collections will resume for an initial 4-week period from Monday 11 May. Brown bins will be emptied alongside recyclable waste in Long Eaton areas w/c 11 May and in Ilkeston areas w/c 18 May, with repeat collections from 25 May and 1 June.

A village's historic former vicarage has been saved from demolition thanks to a preservation notice issued by Erewash Borough Council. Residents in Draycott were stunned by the threat to picturesque Ferrestone House, which was built in 1875.

Seen the pretty poppies at @Erewash_Museum ? On 27 October thousands of knitted poppies will transform Victoria Park, Ilkeston into a memorial to mark the centenary of the end of WW1. 364 of the knitted red poppies – and one white poppy – are on display in the museum gardens.

Ilkeston and Long Eaton War Memorials will be given a specialist clean this autumn ahead of the commemoration to mark the centenary of the end of the First World War. The stonework will be cleaned using a low pressure system, with the work due to take place at the end of October.

A #Covid19 community test centre will open at West Park Leisure Centre, Wilsthorpe Road, Long Eaton, at noon on Weds 24 February. 9am to 7pm every day. There will be no community testing available on March 4, 22 and 30 as the centre hosts regular blood donor sessions.

Erewash Museum are sending out a little treat to vulnerable families this month with bags of creative fun - Museum staff are making up mobile ‘craft packs’ which will be given out by local food banks across the borough.

If you pop into Ilkeston or Long Eaton Town Hall you won't be able to miss this fellow. The poppy soldier was completed as part of an art project which saw visitors to @Erewash_Museum add poppies to the wire figure to mark the #WW1 centenary in 2018. #lestweforget #PoppyAppeal

Our Green Space and Street Scene team have been growing plants with a patriotic theme to mark the centenary of WW1. Plants, which will be used to make Union Jack flower beds, are being grown at West Park Nursery. Look out for the floral displays in June. #ErewashinBloom

A £245,000 mission to improve an Erewash park will get under way this autumn after the council awarded a contract for new lighting. The improvement to Long Eaton’s West Park will see the installation of 42 lampposts. #TownsFund #TownDeals @luhc

Our Sport and Health Development team and Parkside High CIC have been working together to provide young people across Ilkeston with new sports equipment to keep them active at home. A number were donated directly to the children still attending @CotmanhayJr and @ChaucerJun .
