10 years ago, I thought my life was over. I was a broke single mom, recovering from an abusive relationship. I thought I had nothing. Today, I found out I won a Fulbright fellowship. Remember: it can get better. Your life has worth. Go after the things you want.

My 13-yo is suddenly terrified of school shootings because our 3-yo started pre-K. He said he has a plan to save his brother if a shooter enters the school. I would wish every politician who let school kids die for 30 years burns in hell, but we're in hell, & they're in charge.

15 years ago I spent too much money on a wedding gown at a snooty shop & cried my way into a bad marriage. Today I bought a $150 off-the-rack dress from a gorgeous trans woman of color named Achilles, to laugh my way into marrying my best friend. Life gets better. Hang in there.

Depp’s playbook isn’t original— Ted Hughes threatened Plath with a libel suit when she spoke out about his treatment of her in winter 1963. He did the same to writers trying to tell that story for decades after her death. This is an old story. We have to keep telling new ones.

The pitch to mothers in America for ‘self-care’ is the worst. In a racist, misogynist country w/no family leave policy, where the vast majority of women are forced to work right up to the end of their pregnancy & go back right after, calling for ‘self-care’ amounts to shaming.
