Sami was a rescue. Before turning 1, she tore her ACL and her old owners didn’t want to pay for the surgery to repair it. My family adopted her and paid for it (and a few more knee surgeries!). We had her for 14 years. I miss her tremendously still.

OTD in 1960, accompanied by federal marshals, 6-year-old Ruby Bridges walked into a New Orleans elementary school, becoming its 1st black student. Every other student withdrew. Only 1 teacher agreed to stay; for the rest of the school year, she and Ruby were alone in a classroom.
