Finally happy - for now - with the pot arrangement, here is the
#AcerHoarder
pot collection. Bit keen on Hostas too as you can see, plus a couple of Podophyllum and a fern or two. Front view is difficult as a large bed where I’d need to stand🤣
39 years ago today. Matt had just had his hair cut from shoulder length… he’d bought me new glasses instead of an engagement ring. We were so happy. We ARE so happy!🥂
Our beloved Sam cat is in vet hospital with a blocked bladder which has caused damage to his heart and kidneys. We are so upset. Two operations happening this morning to try and save him. We remain hopeful .😿
Morning, well after two skeins of each colour instead of the one it said in the pattern I still didn’t have enough wool to complete the whole pattern so I stopped and knit the final section. It doesn’t balance, but it’s long enough and I hope my friend will like it. 🧶 😊
Evening, this self seeded beauty has just hit full bloom. I saved seed last year and have lots of tiny seedlings coming on, so hoping by a slim chance I might get more of the same or at least similar.
Happy Saturday. One wrist warmer finished. This was a trial run in acrylic yarn leftovers before I knit in lovely subtle colours of Shetland wool. I quite like the brightness! Hoping I have enough yarn to knit a match 🤣🤣🤣 Enjoy your day.
Morning, for those who asked to see how the transformation of our ex hideous hedge area and veg patch into ‘The Grove’ is moving forward as well as in 2/2, part of the new veg area and temp new flower bed. 1/2
Afternoon, thank you for all the lovely birthday wishes and the very kind comments on the baby blanket. I’ve spent my birthday money on wool to knit a fairisle scarf in a knit along with Rowan. Hope the colours work🤞🏻
Dear me, this wasn’t forecast and it’s all come down and is still coming down since 4.30am! Hill isn’t gritted, rather glad we did a big shop yesterday…
Just had chat with vet. Sam has come round after his ops, has lots of tubes and is on many meds. The nasty chemicals in his blood causing damage have decreased. He’s being closely monitored but better at this point than they or we expected. Thank you for everyone’s kind wishes.
Afternoon, can highly recommend not making mistakes when knitting lacy blanket in very fine 2 ply. Had to unpick and lost way totally. Have had to restart, but now back where I was!!
Just three days after being diagnosed with mouth and intestinal cancer our ancient and most beloved Purdy Pie Cat passed away overnight. We spent the weekend with her in our arms giving her all the love in the world. Simply the best, most beautiful, most loveliest of cats. 💔
Yesterday I posted a photo of my collection of Acers in pots and someone made a comment that I was ‘a hoarder’ and the collection was ‘excessive’, I took exception to this as you’d expect, so I thought I’d point out that I also have ‘a few’ in the ground too! Here’s just 7. 1/2
Morning, I mentioned on Saturday that a banana hanger might be useful… I always struggle to know where to put them, but it seemed an extravagance too far. Last evening Matt made me this from off cuts of Cherry he’s using to make a cabinet .💕Bauhaus style apparently!
Morning! ‘Such a shame it’s all one colour’ said a friend. All one colour?!! I almost fell over, the subtle shading of spots and veins in this one is beautiful to me. What do you think? All one colour, my ….! 😂
No flowers in the mirror this week. I’m fighting the worst depression and anxiety I’ve ever had - usually ‘just’ a winter thing, so I’ve decorated a little white tree with the many flowery baubles and decorated eggs I’ve collected over the years. Should make me smile in the hall.
I’m always thrilled to find that there are other things on Twitter than gardening that can bring joy and awe without trolls jumping in to ruin. The fact that this obviously extremely clever and talented young woman shares my first name is entirely coincidental! 💕
I am reliably informed that today is
#NationalBiscuitDay
.
Here is a 🧵 of all the biscuits I've made so far in 2021.
First up, my William Morris set. Inspired by an old
@V_and_A
calendar, everything hand-piped in royal icing. Flavour: cardamom, orange & vanilla.
Good morning, tree two - in our sitting room this time. This one is mostly about the birds, red and wood. With a moose for fun - I smile at this one. The lights aren’t so bright. It really is just held up on a cuphook. Have a good week lovely Twitter chums. 🎄2
Progress is slow, knitting with my elbow tucked in so no pressure on shoulder. Rather than repeat the pattern starting with trees again, I’ve gone off piste and put in parcels…what to do next after the snowflakes though…?🤔
Last year I planted this tree (Crataegus laevigata ‘Paul’s Scarlet’). When I planted it all the soil fell off the tiny little stump of a root. I planted it anyway, the Garden Centre refunded me my money and told me to keep it. Now I feel guilty, should I pay them? That blossom!
In other news knitting is good for de-stressing. Love this hand dyed variable green colour from Skein and the Stitch for the trees. Cushion 2 well on its way.
I suffer from anxiety for various reasons, although anxiety does not need a reason. What is happening in Ukraine truly horrifies me.
I use my garden & other lighter subjects to help alleviate my anxiety, it does not mean that I am ignoring what is happening. Please - be kind.
Morning, my seed grown Ipomea Grandpa Ott May still be a small plant, but that’s a good first flower. Out in the garden since five, may settle down with a book in the heat of the day. Enjoy your day.👍🌞
@mumbythesea
Our local hospice shop has a preloved wedding section, saw a lovely bride to be buying a gorgeous dress for £65 the other day. She was thrilled and the hospice had some funding. Win, win. Great Oaks Hospice Coleford
Morning, the happiest of accidental colour matches. I let most Aquilegia grow where they self seed, but couldn’t be more pleased that these match the ‘Nelly Moser’ Clematis. Happy Sunday, enjoy your day. 🌸💜
Morning, my annual joy in pink, Prunus matsumae hanagasa or Pink parasol in full bloom. The branches are weighed down with the blossom. Looks like a gardening day today. Have a good day. 😀🌸
#BlossomWatch
How does it feel to be turned down to adopt two rescue cats? Bloody devastating that’s how. We have 1/3rd of an acre of enclosed garden, set back 70 feet from a quiet road and have had cats for 37 years. Go figure! ‘Map shows you on a main road into town - which just won’t do!’😭
Sam cat is out of surgery. Bit poorly at the moment. When he comes home he will have to live in a crate for 2 months to allow the leg to heal. A plate, a pin, 4 screws. Tricky surgery. We can go and see him tomorrow, but may not be home for a bit. 🥲
Deep and dark hellebore. Lovely day gardening today. Cut back a honeysuckle in dire need, filled a hippo bag! Find out this evening if we can have the lovely kittens…
Table all finished, I’m really pleased. Just lovely beeswax, will apply another coat or two, but hands are all done in for now. Had a lovely day. About 6 hours gardening, weeding and tidying pots and lightly pruning the last of the Acers. Now finished off for the day. Literally🤪
Morning, OH made me cold frames from old pallets yesterday whilst I filled another skip. I’ve painted them to match the greenhouse. Lots of plants to start moving out now, after the cold night tomorrow. Enjoy the weekend.👍🌸
Morning. Felt ill Sun, Mon am chest pain. Emergency docs appt, sent me to A&E. Lots tests, 2 ECGs, loads of bloods, prodding and poking - diagnosis Costochondritis, inflammation of lining of rib cage that mimics heart attack. Home after 8 hrs. Happy to be alive, but in pain. 😕
Hurrah for the first James Galway, a long loved rose in our old garden. 7 years here and finally planted one last year. Hoping it will fill this obelisk and overflow.
Sam cat has to have his leg amputated this afternoon, dislodged new fix overnight at the vets. Going a bit quiet now. I know he will recover, but very sad. Thank you all for your kind words and well wishes. X
Afternoon. All done now until the baby grandson arrives… then I can add his name and date of birth, then add wadding and backing so it can be hung up or placed on a shelf. Back to knitting that lacy blanket now 🤣
Morning, I’m assured it’s Monday when I thought it was Sunday! This Astrantia is the only one that’s not gone crispy brown, it gets any run off from our outside tap. Enjoy your day. I’m working then studying paperwork for a meeting/interview tomorrow. No gardening today. 🤔
Morning, another Hellebore I can’t name as I’ve lost my little book with the plant list in. Oh well it will turn up eventually. Meantime, happy Monday!
Evening, it’s my birthday today and had lovely day. Super presents from Matt, a nice walk, a shopping trip when several treats were purchased. This afternoon a visit to Bristol museum and art gallery to see a Constable exhibition which included The Haywain. 😮in person. 🥂all.😊
Morning, so I did this yesterday afternoon to distract myself. Might have to move the table if the cats investigate, but no sign at the moment. My lovely Kate Toms Angel is safe from marauders in her glass tree! Have a good day. 🎄1.
Morning,
#transformation
of the area created when we removed huge Leylandii hedge winter 19, through spring 20, through to today. All the stone for the path edge came out of the ground, apart from the fence I did all the work myself with a little help from OH.
#tweetersflowershow
Morning, Sunday funday! This Acer Garnet is more stunning this year with a brighter red than usual whilst many of my others have just dropped their leaves. Have a lovely day. 😀
Sam is pleased to tell you that his external stitches have been taken out, the cone is now gone, all meds stopped and he can start to enjoy life as a 3 legged friend. He’s very happy and so are we. No cage at night or when we are out he can just get on with life. Phew! 😻🐈🐈⬛😻
Morning, I vaguely remember dropping a seed head here last year. The stone ‘below’ is the curved step down. I like these little pop ups! My main flowering of Nigella comes much later, but I think I’ll drop a few more seed heads this year. Mid week madness today. Enjoy your day.
Morning, I’m entranced by the layers of petals and the soft gentle colours of this self seeded Aquilegia. Hoping to plant this morning and garden visit with a friend this afternoon, but raining at the moment. Hope you enjoy your day. 😀🌸
Morning, Ipomea Lobata, Spanish flag or the Firecracker vine. (Formerly Mina lobata) I found one seed at the bottom of an old envelope and planted it. Very tiny plant for weeks, now covers the side of an arch. Pleased I took a chance on that one seed. Happy Monday.
Happy Thursday, the small flowers of the tree peony Paeonia delavayi are opening all over the plant. I love this for its architectural leaves as well as the flowers. A day of planting for me, hope you have a lovely day. 😀🌺🌿
Bit thrilled to buy three pairs of lovely Morris and Co. curtains half price. 1 pair to hang as full length curtains in the hall, 1 pair to make Roman blinds for the landing windows and 1 pair to recover a blanket box and make cushions. Now, about scraping the wallpaper off!
Evening, 6am to 6.30 pm on the garden with lots of tea breaks. I’ve planted 18 dahlias bought late and grown on, plus a lot of cosmos and other annuals I sowed late. This is Rose ‘It’s a wonderful life’ living happily in a pot until I find just the right spot. Back ache now. 🥂
TODAY is Kitten day. 2pm the pick up time, with form filling to do. Litter trays are ready, food is ready, nighttime arrangements made. Cat flap is locked. Toys and games ready. Precious objects moved. Houseplants and flowers relocated. Excitement level at max!
Work first 🤣
Visited the vet yesterday as a little concerned, but all was well. Vet advised to have him out supervised to get some exercise and get used to 3 legs. Well oh my! Couldn’t be more thrilled with this for first walking. So pleased with the little man
Afternoon, I’ve retreated to the sofa as feeling rubbish, aching all over and temp up 2 degrees on my normal low🙃. The man has been out picking sweet peas for me. Big haul today! At least I can smell the gorgeous fragrance. Happy Sunday.
Raspberry bakewell Cake, it’s been a while! Thank goodness it freezes so well else we would keep eating. Enough home grown raspberries ready in one go to make this old favourite. 😋
Compliments can be so affecting. I was coming out of the loos when a lady looked me up and down. Uh oh 😳She then said, “What a lovely colour and shape dress on you, I love your grey hair” I walked round feeling very happy the rest of the day. Be kind, make a difference. 😊
The joy of trust🐈😻Sam cat spends most evenings sat beside me with his head on my leg, waking every now and again for a head or tummy scritch. So far from the hiding Sam of 7 weeks ago. ♥️
#CatsofTwittter
Yesterday we had our chimney swept. We take everything out of the room, have a spring clean and touch up our white paint. When I came to put things back I decided we needed a bit of cheer, so have added some yellow. Spring cheerfulness in time for the freeze and snow forecast!😂
Morning, I love the subtle colour of this Hellebore, another that I forgot to write down the name. Sunday morning frost and bright sunshine. Have a lovely day!☀️☀️☀️
Morning! Well she has arrived, Paeonia ‘Souvenir de Maxime Cornu’, we were advised to grow her in a large pot that could be elevated so we did. Another 3 buds to open too. The sun is shining for now so hopefully a day on the garden. Have a good day.
Evening. Taking part in a Rowan knit along, a lovely fairisle patterned scarf knitted in the round. I chose different colours than those suggested. Still have 7 rows of the first release to knit. 2nd release out tomorrow!
Happy Sunday. My fused glass piece has been fired and ‘slumped’ over a bowl to give it a curve. I loved doing this, but got very frustrated as couldn’t see the small pieces to correct mistakes. I’ll do more when my eyesight is better. Have a good day all.
Cushion inner sewn in using mattress stitch for the first time. Love that it looks like just another row of knitting. Sad to put it away now until it’s gifted.
Hellebore spamming sorry, not sorry! Splendid day outside gardening, potted up another camellia, divided some hostas with frost damaged pots, sorted through my pots and had a general tidy. 8 hours enjoying the sunshine. Although the earlier than planned start made us laugh 🤣🥂
My lovely husband has been making again. This is a box for a set of Storytelling cards about an enchanted forest. Made from spalted beech, African Blackwood & Holly. He also made the hinge from silver plated brass. I just love it. A real heirloom piece.
