Hmm…we will know a tree by its fruits. Jesus was defined by his love & compassion. He told us to love our neighbors as ourselves. I just don’t see a lot of love & compassion coming from Trump…Tribalism trumps reality.🤔
It's curious that we are so drawn to the "negative" feelings of anger and hate. I explore why in my new

What really drives me nuts is when very smart people claim that, even if AIs evolve to AGI-ASI, all will, inherently(?!?), be just fine. WE want a cautious approach bc WE are saying we don’t AND can’t know what would happen. So, caution is the rational approach given the stakes.

We didn’t evolve to perceive reality - we evolved to survive. Historically, this meant maintaining a connection with our respective tribes. Some conservatives are embracing Putin/Russia bc Trump does - which goes to show how tribalism trumps truth. Dems can do the same tho.

What’s that old song, “Love the One Your With?” Perhaps we are cursed with having so many options coupled w crushing upward social comparisons powered by social media?
@rainnwilson
Maybe their version would more likely be, “Have a blessed day!”? Neither the right nor the left own kindness, compassion, and love. We take our positives & negatives with us wherever we go. 🤔

I don't blame the Right or Left for the problems we are seeing in America. Rather, I blame that we have a Right and a Left...which forces us into dichotomous "Us vs. Them" thinking. I'd love to see more "United" in our United States.
A very thoughtful analysis that
@CJFerguson1111
pointed me to. I think both the right & the left, inadvertently, fan the flames of negative partisanship & co-create the polarization, which has become our shared problem.
@ThomasSowell
@ASingh21112
I don't think the goal or expectation is equal performance, IMHO, it's the (relatively) equal opportunities for one to perform. Thus, not everyone can run a 100M dash in the same time, but it's not fair to have some people run it carrying a 50 lb backpack.
@EPoe187
We didn’t evolve to see truth, we evolved to survive. That’s why tribalism often blinds us to the truth. We distort reality in such a way that it maintains our tribal loyalties because those, historically, were critical to our survival.
Does everyone understand that it’s just a matter of time before AIs will be WAY smarter than us? And what profound implications this has for humanity? Frankly, I’m surprised there isn’t a more unified effort to get on top of this. We might not get a second chance.🤔🤷♂️

We can’t afford to devolve into tribalism – it’s time for humanity to Level Up! We must transcend our partisan differences and move toward greater unity. A house divided will not stand. So, let us reclaim our original motto: e pluribus unum - out of many, one.

We will soon see the day when a 40-year-old dude commits statutory rape of a 15-year-old girl and defends himself by saying he identifies as a 15-year-old teen boy so he can’t be guilty of that crime.

Vaccines, far & away, are net positives for society. Ex: In its last 100 years, smallpox killed 500 million people. It had a 30% infected fatality rate & left survivors disfigured. Now it kills zero & no one suffers from it. We have to go w Vegas odds for the net positives.
@harari_yuval
It’s fine & even necessary, to have identities. We feel too “unmoored” to think of ourselves as “I am.” However, we are not our identities. We are More than a label or construct. When we become too attached to identities, it leads too division & suffering. The Buddha was right.

The “under God” part of the pledge allegiance was tacked on after the fact in response to those godless communists! Our national motto of “e pluribus unum” (out of many, One) was changed to “In God we trust” –blurring the separation of church & state upon which we were founded.

Ack. I have trouble watching these. Trump off his teleprompter is pretty bad too. But Biden might be ahead in this category. Jeez, the last thing I'd want to do when approaching 80 is to be running a country. Put me on a beach in the Bahamas with a Pina Colada!

Frankly, I’m shocked that more people aren’t concerned about AI. We are sailing Titanic Humanity into a swirling sea of uncertainty, yet we ignore our cautionary tales. There’s an unknowable non-zero chance of some serious icebergs. How about we SLOW DOWN & be cautious? 🤔😬🙏
There's an additional major danger that most people are overlooking. If one country is about to put the whole human race at risk of a 50% chance of extinction, how do you think the other nations of the world will react?
@ArmandDoma
We need a graph of all age groups here. The suicide rate of middle-age men has increased in recent years & is about 5 -6X the rate of teenage girls. I don’t think that is because of TikTok or Instagram. I think there are bigger and more complicated societal forces at play.
@EPoe187
If we look at being Woke as a correction for hundreds of years of various types of discrimination, sexism, racism, bigotry, etc., how many minds great minds were wrecked by racism, etc.? Maybe it's in overcorrection mode, but it emerged to address some real problems in society.
@ImmuneHack
Tough questions! You right the book on this, and you’ll be interviewed from here to kingdom come. The left will attack you, the right will celebrate you. 😬🤔 But I know you’re not taking sides – you’re just taking a critical analysis and calling it as you see it. 😄
@sbkaufman
Where does your desire to do important things that you don’t want to do to prove to yourself that free will exists come from? Were you born with that or did it emerge from your formative experiences + heredity? Did you choose to have the desire or did that desire choose you?🤔
My, ahem, hope, is that AI causes only some low-level, but significant problem (e.g., ChaosGPT 5.0 is used to take down a city's power grid) and then folks, across the board, collectively prioritize AI regulation because...well, if we don't, we will suffer even worse later on.
Sure, wokeism is a problem on the left but, as we can see, there are extremists on the right who are causing more pressing problems in our great United States.
@daganshani1
If we are not careful, in our capitalistic fervor to rapidly evolve AIs in the pursuit of profits, power, position, prominence, etc., humanity will engage in a race to the bottom. We need to level up. I think AI will be the greatest challenge that we've ever faced.
This is a Big Effin’ Problem, my fellow humans. When deep fakes become indistinguishable from the real thing, we will not be able to believe our eyes. When we can’t trust information, we have no information. We must work together to solve our shared problems or pay the price.

Hardwork will get you further in life, for the most part, even if you don’t have inherent talent but talent without hard work usually won’t get one very far in life.Roger Federer has talent, but if he didn’t practice tennis hours a day for years, he would never have become champ.
@sullydish
While that is a crazy story, what doesn’t make the news is all the times in which this doesn’t happen. 99% of the time, this sort of thing doesn’t happen, but stories like this, while true, are the kind of thing that sparks outrage and gets the shares and comments on Twitter.
@bindureddy
Critically important: AIs don’t have to become conscious for this to create a massive problem. They merely have to act conscious & pretend to be sentient. Humans anthropomorphize everything – hell, we had pet rocks at one time! We won’t be able to resist AIs claiming sentience.
@EPoe187
Prove it. If evil has anything to do with free will, how could one be born evil? One isn't born evil. One can be born damaged in such a way though that they cannot empathize with others well. Buddhists view evil as someone who is misperceiving reality...a type of ignorance.
@glukianoff
The problem is that humans didn’t evolve to see truth – but to survive. Thus, we view truth & reality through our respective tribal lenses, distorted by cognitive biases, such that we can find the “truth” that we want to maintain tribal loyalties. Tribalism trumps truth.
@EPoe187
I think elite universities and fraternities also give alumni access to connections that allow them to climb the social ladder. Or skip rungs right to the top.

People actually think D&D is making people more racist? You gotta be kidding! Next thing you know, people will start saying D&D turns people into satanists or something!
@GaryMarcus
They left out that 20 million will be replaced by AI. 🤔😬 The truth is, no one knows, and no one can know, but my bet would be that more jobs will be displaced. Humans won’t be able to adapt at the pace at which they will be replaced bc bio organisms don’t evolve as fast AIs.
I find it concerning that both the right and the left have apocalyptic visions of what will happen if the other side wins the presidency. “Fear is the path to the Dark side. Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering.” -Yoda
