@drraja_ The problem is that we are selected, assessed, and promoted on our ability to tick boxes. We have forgotten to enjoy work and learning. What is needed is different criteria by which our professional progression is assessed.

@doctorcaldwell @jotalbotbowen There's no lack of empathy and collaboration. But it's beaten out of staff by a politicalised system that prioritises targets and money over people and care. We don't need more training. We need a different system and society-wide discussion on what we all want to have and fund.

@BenAllenGP I'd like a way to informally share feedback. Away from the patient in question, and done in a way to help everyone understand the other person's perspective, and to be educational. I suspect most of us just want to do a good job; some don't know how.

@RCSEdFST @ShireenMcKenzie Great debate! For me the key is to focus on what the trainee wants to achieve and then creating opportunities to help them. Influencing systemic issues may be challenging, but we all have the power to influence the trainee-trainer relationship.

@veggieequallife Great question! What is payoff? Career success is v individual, societal definitions may/not apply to individuals. If payoff is individually defined, then answer's yes. If chasing someone else's goal, then no. If hard work lacks success, then need to change you or your career.

@BenAllenGP @DrSelvarajah There must be a better way to deal with patient requests to prioritise them over others. It shouldn't be up to individual GP or hospital doctor to decide.
