: "Pell City, what they just did, is ultimate in class. It's what high school sports should be about. It's what leading young men is about. We got a kid with a parent who's having a rough time ...
Kind of a cool moment in postgame: Pell City coaches called up Leeds' Jackson Bartee, so they could pray for his dad, Ross. Not sure what ails him but the situation is apparently dire.
So yesterday I had to change a flat tire & then ride on the doughnut to work while listening to the
@ShutdownFullcas
, which means I *could* have died while listening to

explain why NFL scouts think Thor is a me-first prima donna.
YOU: but i hate the shutdown fullcast, ryan’s voice is grating and his jokes suck
ME: HA I’M NOT ON THIS EPISODE NOW YOU HAVE TO LISTEN OR BE EXPOSED AS AN INTELLECTUAL FRAUD

Here's an episode about just a few of the many college football programs who are more worthy of discussion at this moment, for better or (likely) worse, than the Ohio State Buckeyes
New Episode!
The World is Burning: Your Guide to the Current Uprisings
In Episode 92,
@IwriteOK
gives listeners a guide to the uprisings all over the world right now.
The astute
@SplitZoneDuo
listener in your household might call a Duke-Tennessee tournament matchup "The Cutcliffe Bowl" or possibly "The Music City Bowl, but Basketball."
Sitting up tonight with the senior dog, who's probably ready for *that* vet appointment in the morning. For positive vibes, here's a really old picture of her comforting me after I broke my leg.
While I don't encourage engaging troll fans online, it tickles me to see other fans' criticism of Bama come down to "Sometimes they don't win the national title so they are overrated."
Was sitting down this morning thinking, "This year has kind of sucked, right?" Then I heard this voice in my head: "You passed comps & successfully defended a dissertation proposal. You took your daughter to Disney World. You taught a class where most people didn't hate you."
The day after Alabama beat Clemson for the 2015 national title, I showed up on campus to start a PhD program. Last night I sent my dissertation to committee. I need to lie down.

Not sure if this is the proper forum, but I wanted to spend a few Twitter moments remembering my grandmother, Jean Evans Rainer Meadows, who passed away today, at age 96.
Everyone in our sphere is anticipating Leeds-Moody, as they should. That said, right now Southside is technically the region leader (3-0 as opposed to their 2-0) & has the same overall record.
Just a quick refresher for my new
#UAMC101
followers: Media may not tell us what to think, but they do provide us with our dominant culture, & tell us what is and isn’t appropriate for general society.
Random playoff thought: Don't know much about
@footballopelika
or Daphne in 2017, but it seems like a freaking nightmare of a matchup for the home team. OHS is solid & had 2 weeks to prepare & get well.
A bit of personal news: I am, for the first time in my life (I'm 40) seeking mental health treatment. Not patting myself on the back bc it probably shouldn't have taken so long. Nevertheless, here goes.
In retrospect it seems a little presumptuous for a band from Alabama that calls itself Alabama to tell people how music is supposed to be played in Texas.
For what it's worth, there are 5 bonus questions for your

final. Look for stories about election fraud, award shows, college football awards, weather & trailers for new movies. Good luck.

@BunkiePerkins
I also enjoy the security guard who is clearly so amused by what is happening he is making no attempt to even remotely control the crowd
Congrats to
@erik_speakman
& his staff. They were a long way from home & fell behind 2 scores before everybody was settled in their seats. Really impressive.

Conference review szn commences on the Big Show, with additional programming coming to Patreon subscribers
Also probably Jags. Let’s just be honest
On the one hand, Auburn folks probably do have a few legitimate officiating gripes today. On the other hand they attempted a 4th down conversion pass to their kicker, so
ESPN ERROR NO. 1: Randomly losing my mind and assigning Alex Hornibrook to Miami instead of FSU even though I’ve already written 2K+ words on both Miami and FSU this year.
Though in fairness,
@Coach_MannyDiaz
took all the OTHER transfers, so...

grades for Fall 2018 are, at long last, posted. Apologies to everyone for the delay — it was mostly due to technical delays. And thanks again to everyone who interacted with me through this medium; I had fun, and hopefully we all learned a little.

Little Brother (4), sitting in his car seat, with no music playing: ... we ain't get it started till the whole team pull up ... we ain't get it started till the whole team pull up ...

Mentioned this before & not sure who needs to hear it, but no, the twins named OrangeJello & LimeJello aren't real. I've lived in 6 different places & they have allegedly been in kindergarten in all of them.
4-year-old: Where are we now?
me: ... Georgia
her: I don't like Georgia.
me: No one does. But if we want to visit your cousin we don't have much of a choice.
When a local gym says it's "more than a gym" and talks about being a supportive community & whatever ... that's a cult, right? They're inviting you to join a cult.
Pro tip for
#UAMC101
students: I actually do look through the photos you guys submit for attendance, even if there's no grade attached to them. This is a good effort though.
I wanted to do a big thread about how I was wrong about Florida & sometimes 18 year olds play like 18 year olds, but the lady at the next table is having a very serious conversation about how God is using her through her Instagram posts & I can't pay attention to anything else.
NEW PAPN:
* Today sucked
* Is Les Miles done coaching?
* Herm vs. Lovie
* Does Brent Venables even want to be a head coach?
* Watch me tie global warming to sports
* Today really sucked
It is kind of hilarious to think about going back in time to tell my college age self, "You will be unbearably disappointed when your team fails to win its 6th national championship in 10 years."
What this game tonight proves is how special this era of Alabama football really is. It’s tough to win it all. Other teams get 1, maybe 2 shots per decade at a title. Bama has had 7 chances to win and took home 5 since 09. That is excellence folks, enjoy it.
Fetterman’s neighbor in the Capitol basement,
@SenKatieBritt
was among the first colleagues to visit him in the hospital. Crossing paths in a Capitol tunnel one recent afternoon, Fetterman yelled, “Alabama!” and gave her a fist bump.

Another test tip, on models of communication: The sender (that's me!) puts a message (the words, in this case) on a channel (Twitter). And you, the eager student, receive it.
#UAMC101
Since I've heard the show 7 times this year, I feel qualified to say the Pride of the Green Wave's rendition of "Devil Went Down to Georgia" absolutely slaps.
(Did ... did I use that right? Slaps, I mean.)
Not a defense, but it's notable that in other forms of entertainment, when the live crowd lags, the people in charge think, "What can we do to bring those people back?" instead of attempting to shame them.
"Are you actually tweeting test hints or do you just want to gain followers?"
Yes and yes. Being self-aware hasn't gotten me terribly far to this point.
For what it's worth, even if you think everyone's panicking
#COVD19
& media are overselling things, you can still behave like a grownup & take it seriously. It's not an either/or.
Excited for the return of college football, yes, but let's not forget about the most important game this weekend:
@footballopelika
vs. the Baby Tigers. Beat em bad, boys.
cults at alabama:
- mallet
- music majors
- crimson tide productions
- bama students for life
- guys in hawaiian shirts
- UADM
- the literal underground organization that controls what people do that everyone is Afraid of
Will swallow my usual snark & applaud the kids. Played a great game & earned the right to dance for a few minutes. Won't say I *believe* again bc I've been on this hamster wheel before, but that was a solid W against a really good team. Well done.
#RollTide
Agree to disagree, I suppose. There are pros and cons to every model, but the current model allows everyone to profit *except* the people who actually put in the work. I'm not interested in preserving that system.
Last week I asked
#UAMC101
students whether they believed the US does too much to protect free speech. A few said yes. But when I asked the class, none wanted to speak up yo explain why. A striking example of Spiral of Silence theory in action.
Likely unpopular (and possibly Dad as hell) take: I'm tired of late kicks. Not that I mind them on occasion, but we kick after supper EVERY FREAKING WEEK now and it's just enough already.
