During an on-campus interview, a female faculty member at the interviewing school drove me home from dinner one evening. She cried in the car while telling me about her struggles working there. I often think of her. I hope she is doing well now.
Recently, a colleague told me a course on the Haitian Revolution would be too narrow. Holding in my rage, I could not help but think of all the courses taught on the American Revolution and French Revolution.
I am only now noticing the practice of scholarly manspreading on conference panels. This involves men take more time than allotted seemingly just to hear themselves speak. This takes away from the other panelists and q&a.

Having been on several search committees, I would encourage you to do so. Sometimes it helps to understand why an applicant would be willing to move to that location (such as the middle of nowhere).
One special request: someone please teach the high school students how to download files from Google docs to share instead of sending a link (that usually does not grant permissions for access...). Thanks!
My mom was exposed to COVID at work because someone broke protocol to have an in-office client conference. She is now experiencing symptoms. I am terrified and furious.
Our kindergartener is being taught that Columbus came to "our country." I am not pleased. How do I explain to my child that that is a lie but get him to trust his teachers to teach him math?
Confession: I love academic Twitter, and I learn so much from everyone I follow. Yet, I am still hesitant to post opinions or inquiries, fearing I will look like a fool and/or face a bashing.

A while back, an article of mine (researched & written during the pandemic) was rejected primarily because I had not been to the archives.
@DrSepinwall
suggested I try a different journal, & I did. Today, I was notified that it was accepted for publication!
Every year, we publish a list of the top 10 most viewed articles of that year! Here are the top 10 articles published in 2023 AND the top 10 most revisited articles published from 2015-2022. Enjoy!
I got car sick while on a tour of the town when interviewing on campus. I had to ask the driver to pull over the car so I could puke. We returned to campus, and I gave my job talk. (I didn't get the job.)
What is your job interview horror story?

In many meetings, people have called me by my first name while referring to white, male colleagues as doctor and professor. Until that stops, I will put PhD and doctor with my name EVERYWHERE.
Just to clarify, this is an undergraduate class I intend to overhaul this summer. I do not feel comfortable giving the student an old syllabus for that reason. I am not a monster, ya'll. I am not making fun of the student either. I applaud his initiative.
I have committed myself to moving my classes to OER. For next fall, I am only requiring 2 very inexpensive texts for my Historian's Craft course. I am not requiring students to purchase texts for any other class.

I have been teaching our 5 yo to read. Today, I asked him to read popcorn. First, he split it into 2 words: pop corn. Then, he shouted "porn"! He was so proud, having no idea why that mistake would startle and amuse me. He eventually read popcorn.
I wrote a law school letter of recommendation for a student last spring. I just received a letter from the school thanking me and asking me to send them more applicants. I have never seen such a thing from history & archival graduate programs.

Francis Marion University's chapter of Phi Alpha Theta won a best chapter award for 2018-2019! The students worked very hard, and I could not be more proud!
