Gay dads exist and of course we do Pride. It's a great day out. If someone has to delete their pics because of bigots I'm going to put replacements out into the world. I'm so sorry this happened to you. They were lovely pictures.
I’ve deleted the post with the photos of my family at Pride. I’ve got thick skin, but I’ve never had such abuse hurled at me on this site before. I’ve been accused of sex abuse, paedophilia, literally stealing my child, and it broke me. All because we took our child to a march.
Let's talk about floods and climate change in the Midlands. Last night I showed just a decade of Severn levels in Worcester (where we were live) and every red dot is a flood event in the city. They're getting more frequent. I said you could do this for any midlands river... 1/7
There’s always money to make life harder for cyclists apparently. A set of new gates at top of reservoir path that now stops me exiting in the cargo bike. So forcing me and the kids back onto the road for my commute. Genius.

The thing about this story is we don’t really interrogate why all these drivers are hitting stuff on the pavement. Tree trunks one day and prams the next?
Apparently some people were upset I mentioned my daughter and my husband on
@BBCMTD
last week. So here’s a video featuring both of them from the weekend. Enjoy!
We’re only allowed a small picket outside the BBC in Birmimgham because we work in a shopping centre. But we’re here! Supporting our local radio colleagues in their fight against massive cuts to services.
Unpopular opinion. I rather like the new
@BBCTheArchers
It suits my lockdown mental mood. Aren’t we all spending more time in our heads at the moment?

The NHS death roll from Covid19 in the Midlands has stayed around 150 for the past two weeks. It hasn’t dropped. Please remember to wash hands and stay 2m apart this weekend. Coronavirus is still out there.
I mean it’s my job to report on farming so maybe I’m just too close to the subject... but this strikes me as massively stupid. Just from a “like eating” and “not starving” point of view.
When you suddenly discover your daughter's pretend shop appears to be stocked with real money and credit cards she lifted from your wallet without you noticing.
I do not understand BCC’s obsession with sticking bollards in the middle of cycle lanes. The cargo bike is only slightly narrower than the gap! Every time we all breathe in just in case!

Getting around Birmingham using a cargo bike. A short thread 🧵 First meet “the beast”(of course the beast is covered in Disney princess stickers because 4 year old)
At a “crisis summit” for egg producers about sky high freed costs at British Pig & Poultry Fair. All supermarkets invited to attend. No one here. So meet the cardboard supermarkets!
So Brexit voting sheep farmers potentially cut themselves off from their biggest market and opened themselves up to some brutally efficient competition? 🤔
“NZ negotiators will now demand the UK disown eye-wateringly high tariffs – adopted as part of its EU membership – which largely shut out NZ dairy and beef imports from the UK”
We need to make our towns and cities "spongy" to soak up all this rainwater And hey, you can combine building hidden infrastructure with new cycle lanes and planting while you are at it ;-) 7/7
“"The best way we have found so far is to ask people to shout out what colour kettle is on their kitchen counter and if they don't all get it right, they are not from same house," he said.”

Look. I only know about farming, science and the environment but “unafraid of a no deal scenario” is an extraordinary statement. If you are unafraid you haven’t understood the consequences.
Lights were green. Little green cycle twinkling. And I was cycling across the crossing outside my daughter's school. A minicab ran the red light. Nearly killed me, Marnie and the twins in the front. A cyclist on the other side warned me to stop just in time.
All of this is infuriating. A massive car. Probably transporting a single person. Parks on pavement because car park full. Blocks cycle racks (was a real struggle to get cargo bike in). Urgh.
@MartinSLewis
We didn't have a flower budget, instead my brother grew chilli plants for each table that people could take away after. This involved him at a level he was happy with, kept costs down of both flowers and favours. Years later people still have them
Had to slightly adjust the recipe when we mysteriously had fewer blackberries than we thought 🤔 But
@Nigella_Lawson
‘s Blackberry Crisp a triumph. Plus bonus happy memories of triumphing over very thorny bushes!
So it’s been a rough few days. Marnie has tested positive for Covid. She seems absolutely fine and the good news is
@suji007
and I both tested negative. But we’re now in our 14 day isolation. Send booze.
Marnie may be allowed to stay up late. She might have had too much blue candy floss. She might not understand what a reply is. But she’s very very happy

In nice Birmingham cityscape news. Ugly anti-terror barriers and arches seem to have vanished. Permanently? (Still low profile anti-vehicle measures in place)
The utterly baffling ritual of drivers blocking a significant bus route trying to get into Bullring car park which is barriered off because it’s full. This farce can’t continue

When BBC Birmingham moves to Digbeth we are thinking about adding a cargo bike to the crew vehicle roster.
For stories in Brum it’s quite likely a bike will get you to the location faster than a car.
🧵I don't usually bother with this stuff but... I see people suggesting the BBC has somehow indulged me because I'm riding a £7,000 bike. I feel compelled to set the record straight on a couple of points 1/3
I know cameras can create images that make things look worse than they are but looking at pictures from yesterday I am surprised/worried by the lack of social distancing and mask wearing.
Why don't cyclists use cycle lanes? (part 98) The dutch realise if you want people to use cycle lanes you need to join A to B and give cyclists a quick direct route. Contrast with Brums exciting new chunk of cycle lane that wriggles all over and ends up nowhere you want to go?
Worth saying again. The current issues with jobs in farming/HGV drivers/gaps on supermarket shelves are down to brexit with a small layer of Covid on top. Industry eternally warning government of issue. Now it’s here. Now what?
The good news is Marnie is Covid negative and despite the tears I still managed my 4th (!) successful toddler swabbing. Bad news? She’s still very poorly. So cuddles and lots of water and milk today. Thank you for your kind wishes.

I do hope the Council updates its cycle maps to show this route is no longer accesible especially for users of cargo bikes and other larger bikes like those owned by disabled cyclists.
In the late 90s when I'd link flooding in the midlands to climate change I'd get so much pushback (via email and letters (!)) saying you can't make this connection. Well 25 years later the trend is very clear. Climate change means more floods in the Midlands. 4/7
As some of you may have heard mum passed away suddenly and peacefully at home at the end of last week. Here’s one of my favourite pics of her and Marnie at Christmas. She was an amazing woman who lived life to the full. Love you Mum x
There's two ways to look at some of these - sure, there are some community assets that we don't want to leave to the markets - but there's still some which are better NOT owned by the city council.
So yeah. 2018 was an amazing year. Something so many people take for granted (but not all) happened for us. Long journey to get here. But we’ve met so many amazing people on the way not least Miss Marnie herself. Happy New Year Twitter from the Gregory-Kumars x

Holy sh*t. The Post Office applied a senior executive bonus metric about its work on the Post Office Inquiry (without informing the inquiry). Then it used false information to say it had achieved the metric and awarded the executive bonuses, whilst implying...
Lateral flows are more important than ever this Christmas. This batch I picked up don’t need an unpleasant tonsil swab, just nostrils, which I think some people will find easier. Picked up free at a supermarket. Worth searching out.
