💃 My Top 20 Favourite Albums! 🕺
Been just over a year, so I thought I'd update my list of favourites... The order doesn't mean much; they go up and down all the time!
Are any of your favourites here? Ask me any and all questions about these amazing records!
"On Doomsday
Ever since the womb 'til I'm back where my brother went
That's what my tomb will say
Right above my government, Dumile
Either unmarked or engraved, hey, who's to say?"
It's been 2 years since we lost MF DOOM, an underground pioneer and a hip hop legend. R.I.P.
10. Big K.R.I.T.
K.R.I.T. has such a consistent catalogue of mixtapes embracing the sound of southern hip hop but putting his own energetic spin on it. His albums can be incredible as well, such as his best work, 4eva is a Mighty Long Time.
1. Del the Funky Homosapien
Del is a personal favourite of mine, and his catalogue deserves as much love as any hip hop legend. Deltron 3030 is a creative concept album like no other, and the rest of his work is so well-produced, with such great flows and lyricism throughout.
My girlfriend loves hip hop but hasn't heard too many hip hop albums, so I've given her these 10 to check out to see what she thinks!
What's your top 3 here? 🤔
3. De La Soul
While other groups like Tribe and Wu-Tang get the praise they deserve, De La rarely do. This may be because of the inaccessibility of their work on modern streaming platforms, but I implore you to try and find their creative and unforgettable hip hop where you can.
6. Guru
While Gang Starr gets plenty of praise, Guru himself doesn't get the shine he deserves compared to DJ Premier. His Jazzmatazz series is some of the best jazz rap of all time, and his incredible skill in Gang Starr rivals some of the best rappers ever.
9. El-P
El-P is a legend in the underground scene who is more often recognised nowadays as half of the group Run the Jewels. However, his older work is even more exciting - such experimental and dark hip hop, from the incredible Company Flow to his own excellent solo albums.
8. Roc Marciano
In the modern underground scene, Roc Marciano is one of the best. He has such a charming and unique pen, and as a rapper/producer it makes his albums all the more impressive.
4. Ka
Ka is a modern master lyricist, with each verse so rich with wordplay, vivid storytelling and character. His production choice is so dark and atmospheric compared to most others, making his albums more inaccessible, but well worth your time.
5. Redman
Redman is an incredible artist who doesn't get praised enough for his consistency. His first 3 album run is so creative and strange, and at the same time so incredible. His catalogue is full of classics and unforgettable songs.
7. Inspectah Deck
Deck is often overshadowed by his peers, but what he lacks in a solo discography he makes up for in longevity. With his work with Wu-Tang, his own solo venture Uncontrolled Substance, and now with his albums in Czarface, he continues to be an incredible rapper.

2. Pharaohe Monch
Monch may be one of the best rappers ever, with such a skill for rhyme and an effortless flow. His work with Organized Konfusion is incredible, and his strong solo catalogue maintains this quality with so many energetic and perfect performances.

If you see a song here you've not heard before, please give it a listen and tell me your thoughts! They are in no order; just music I love.
billy woods has been on an unprecedented run this decade. The sheer quality and quantity of his output puts him up there with the greats for me, and at this point, he's in my top 5 favourite MCs ever.
Decades of nonstop quality and he's growing more prolific by the year. 🎶

@omartalksrap
DOOM has an insane discography, so much influence and amazing as a lyricist and rapper. Not to knock down the others mentioned, it is all personal preference, but is the gap really that big? Hov and DOOM are pretty close for me.

Q-Tip deserves all the same praise that Andre 3000 gets, if not more.
He's an excellent producer and incredible rapper. He had such a huge impact on hip hop, through his work in Tribe, solo material, amazing features, and how he inspired groups like OutKast and The Roots.
I've been working on my top 50 favourite rappers list for months. The order always changes.
This is what I have so far, but I won't post the full thing until I've heard enough from every rapper I deem essential. Can't miss anyone out!

Today, me and my girlfriend are going to start walking the West Highland Way.
It's a 95 mile hike through the Highlands of Scotland which should take around a week (if all goes well). I'll be completely inactive over the next week to complete the hike!
Wish me luck! 👋
