It's worth it for zoos to know these names. There are real academics taking honest looks at human behaviour, but meanwhile people like these cause problems because we don't know about them. Try to check references. It's difficult but it needs to be done when possible.

@InterestedKnot It's a whole balance. There's definitely worth in having experienced voices available. But part of this is about actually having the responsibility to discover the right ways to do things, and to teach those ways to others.

I've seen way more of that sort of thing over the last year, and it really is an attack on zoo values. It comes from other topics where they're avoiding contact to avoid harm, which doesn't apply to zoos. "Non-practicing" is fine. Or you can mention abstaining, if you'd like.

You can be romantically and not sexually attracted to non-humans and still identify as zoo, of course. However, identifying as "anti contact", actively opposing the natural and harmless sexual expression of other zoos and their non-human companions is harmful.

@OneBigGrumpyRat @constelis And they chose that language because it would *mean* we're abusive. That's what they're hinging on. I'm fairly certain, after all I've seen, that there's nothing inherently abusive about a mutually enjoyed zoo relationship. Violence is abusive.
