@haymes_joshua I remember when older women would lay a shawl over a woman's shoulders or lap, saying, "Here you go, dear. You must be chilly." There were times someone came in and this was all they had to wear. These older ladies were trying to help them avoid embarrassment.

@deaflibertarian My father worked with deaf people. Deaf people are the most discriminated against, many times. Many people in the groups would wear huge, ugly hearing aids, though totally deaf. When I asked my dad why, he explained, "They would rather be thought of as hard of hearing than deaf."
