Bones Hyland came to VCU as a top 100 recruit, won A-10 POY as a sophomore, got drafted in the 1st round of the NBA Draft after 2 years at VCU and is now going to be playing in the NBA Rising Stars game. That’s being blessed and highly favored right there. Awesome story.

Just watching the aftermath of English leaving Mason & Justin Tillman just came to mind. That man had real options and stuck with VCU through not 1, but 2 head coaching changes. That loyalty is rare as hell. He’s an all-timer for that alone and he was a damn good player besides!

Remember when guys across town called Bones Hyland a “one trick pony”? He just dropped 15, 6 & 4 for the 8-4 Denver Nuggets in November as a 1st rounder after 2 years at VCU. He’s scored 58 points in his first 8 NBA games- 13 more than Justin Harper had in his whole NBA career.

My favorite VCU dunk of undergrad? Easy. The #20 pick in the ‘09 NBA Draft throwing an ‘oop to the #15 pick in the ‘10 NBA Draft who dunks all over ODU in the 2009 CAA Semifinals and all Gerald Lee can do is watch. Maynor to Sanders was a thing of beauty all year long!

VCU has had one other player leave early for the NBA Draft. Larry Sanders left after his 3rd season & was drafted 15th in the 2010 NBA Draft. VCU went to the Final Four the following year. VCU & Bones will both be just fine! We’ve still got a squad whether ppl know it yet or not.
