Ibn Abbas (R.A) said, “Mutawaffika (مُتَوَفِّيكَ) means death.” Sahih al-Bukhari p.634 This narration is in the most authentic book after the Holy Quran, under the chapter called “Kitabul Tafsir” (Book of commentary) and Ibn Abbas (R.A) is doing the commentary of 3:55.

When Hazrat Ahmad (AS) claimed to be in the likeness of other Prophets he explains that this means he resembles these prophets. In the same way, Ibn Taymiyyah (RH) believed in this concept based on ahadith which liken the Khulafa-e-Rashideen to Prophets.

Alright, as promised here it is. Here we were discussing the meaning of the word مُتَوَفِّیۡکَ (Mutawaffika) in āyah 3:55. As you see the Deobandi claims the word does not mean death but 'take'. What he doesn't realise is that his own wājib ul taqlīd imām translates it as death!

I tried to debate using Quranic inferences only proving Quran giving only two possible meanings to Tawaffa (39:42) but this Sunni wanted to hide behind Ibn Taimiyya after he was refuted on Quran (ofc). When even that did not help him he decided to block me. May Allah guide them.
