Global computing systems have been transformed over a short 15 year period. Today the systems critical to the functioning of airlines/airports, hospital, banks, stores, news media and transport systems have all been disrupted. IT is terribly boring - until nothing works.

I find academic twitter tremendously useful. Thinking of all the fantastic projects, papers, conferences, and people I would not know of. The struggle of working in an emerging field worse, almost impossible. If it dies I hope we find someplace else to go.

I've been part of a handful of reading groups. But I found one with the best format: No prior reading. At the weekly meeting, volunteers read aloud from dense text. The reader pauses - others synthesize, clarify, and ask questions. Session ends with a broader discussion.

Resenting you all for abandoning organisation studies to the mainstream. I am now forced to read things like - studies find that powerful orgs have power and less powerful orgs have less power. we hypothesise that powerful orgs will try to remain powerful.

cloud systems transform deployment processes. It becomes possible to enact instantaneous changes on a global scale. Speed above all other imperatives. Checks and balances (staggered releases, rigorous testing ) get eroded. An organisational failure rather than a technical one.
