John Lasseter isn't the visionary behind Cars. A story artist named Jorgen Klubien pitched the idea of a movie about anthropomorphic cars and he and Joe Ranft worked on the story. John took full-credit, fired Klubien from Pixar, and Klubien only received $50k.
