I'm a nerd who writes KH fic and the Undertale AU, Inverted Fate. , I also make art and music!
This twitter pro-LGBT+, ace inclusionist, and anti-pedophilia, incest, abuse, bullying, racism, and cringe culture.
Cool Deltarune detail from the livestream is that Toby confirmed Kris' pronouns to be they/them explicitly. (One of the dads called Kris a he and Toby corrected him.) Seam was also referred to as they by Toby.
Morbid Deltarune realization.
If we assume Kris is not the knight and the knight will still make a fountain the same day, and if we assume the knight follows L-shaped patterns... the next fountain is. The hospital.
I had an epiphany that Toriel and Asgore, despite their best efforts, are not very good at seeing the signs when a child is struggling. Not only with Chara in Undertale, but with Kris, too. For as much as they try, they don't seem to really *understand* Kris.
Deltarune subreddit really is deleting comments that disagree with their rules about Kris' gender and LGBT+ themes being controversial but leaving the comments that praise the rule. That's not a good look.
Fun Deltarune fact: Children are deliberately shown WITHOUT striped shirts. It is only Kris, a teen, who wears stripes. Even NPCs who otherwise look identical to their Undertale counterparts lack them, as does the lil' dancing kid, who is confirmed to be a child.
In the Undertale alarm clock dialogue, Toriel does not describe Chara as her child, but as someone she once knew. I wonder what this means, honestly. There are multiple readings, and some of them are really sad.
Honestly, the idea that Berdly won't get any more development because the weird route exists always bothered me because Papyrus is crucial to Undertale's best ending, yet you can kill him off easily. Sometimes absence is still relevance.
// Deltarune Chapter 2 spoilers
As much as Berdly's advances toward Susie are uncomfortable, one thing I find interesting is that he assumes Kris had a thing for him. And he isn't even that put off by it? He's just like "Sorry, but I'm into Susie." Not, "I could NEVER date you."
Okay, but hear me out. Later in Deltarune, we meet Gaster for the first time and his first onscreen dialogue is entry number 17. "What do you two think?" Refers to Susie and Kris. It'd be hella rad.
Ngl, I hope Toby Fox eviscerates Wolff for all that BS. Tearing into a seven year fan project and claiming it was for profit, going against Toby's own wishes and desires...
What a hot mess.
Time and time again, without fail, I have people go "um stop forcing trans theories into Undertale" on my Mad Mew mew video and any time I point out how the games are queer as fuck and ask why trans is where they draw the line, they have nothing constructive to say, lol.
Deltarune realization. Prophecies are tales of predestination. Ralsei believes darkners have a purpose- to serve lightners. Deltarune toys a lot with predestination. "Choices don't matter" may be a mindset that is CHALLENGED, like Flowey in UT.
// Deltarune Spoilers
I totally get people disliking Berdly for the way he acted around Susie and Noelle, but at the end of the day he's a teenage nerd who's bad at social cues and I feel like the hate's a bit much. :P I have faith that Toby will develop him further.
What baffles me about some Undertale fans is how they'll accept queer themes for Undyne, Alphys, and the like, but the moment you suggest Mettaton or Mad Mew Mew are trans, they're like "But no!!! That's not trans! Stop making it about the lgbtbbq!"
Tbh, I feel bad for Toby Fox right about now. The Undertale Yellow copyright/soundtrack drama has undoubtedly reached him and is probably super stressful. I wouldn't be surprised if that's part of why we've yet to hear about a newsletter this month.

HOLY COW, the existence of the Snowgrave route is really surreal. It feels like something out of a creepypasta, but it's real. TOBY, WHAT.
I think one of my favorite parts of the Undertale/Deltarune newsletters is just how Toby unabashedly keeps using Mad Mew Mew in them. It goes to show that he genuinely sees Mew Mew as the canonical fate for that character, since she appears in the Xbox version and the alarm clock
Got curious about heights and decided to put some characters side by side. Honestly, when you consider MK and Kris, Frisk could definitely be a 10 - 13 like the EB/Mother protags, if we assume Kris and co. are 16 - 18 (likely, since Toriel says Kris will be going to college soon)
Never let me sprite at almost midnight after telling me that an edit of Ralsei's face looks like a Sonic character. Things happen. I apologize for my sins.
Undertale yellow is a very neat fangame, but if people really are pushing it as canon, it really rubs me the wrong way because that implies one fan team's vision is the only acceptable one for the yellow souled human and I'm not big on that, especially w/ the lore inconsistencies
It's really fascinating how Bratty just... isn't a good person in Deltarune. She pressured Asriel into kissing her with a dare. She manipulated Kris into getting her free burgers so they could hang out with the "big kids." She's catfishing Pizzapants as his fake girlfriend...
Any time someone says "pacifist is boring" re: Undertale or Undertale fanworks, I shake my head and sigh because that kind of Genocide run glorification... misses the entire point -of- that run, and 90% of those people never actually played it. It's a slow, tedious grind.
I wonder why people are so opposed to trans/nonbinary characters in Undertale despite multiple gay, lesbian, and bi characters. People always seem the most averse to people talking about how trans MTT and Mew Mew are, or acknowledging nonbinary characters and it's sad.
You know, no matter what happens with Deltarune and Gaster, I don't think the years of fan speculation will have been for nothing. I think we should all understand that some fan ideas may be off the mark, but the years of brainstorming and creativity still matter.
The funniest thing Toby could do for Deltarune is make it so Gaster's appearance is decided by RNG variables and so every playthrough has a chance of having a completely different looking Gaster.
Every Deltarune playthrough is personalized or something.
I had a weird Deltarune dream where there was a reveal that Ralsei was actually a puppet created by Asriel using a fragment of his consciousness, leading to a creepy existential thing with Asriel trying to control Ralsei but Ralsei's unique personality still being separate. Yeah.
I feel like there's a pretty fundamental misunderstanding of Alphys as a character that kinda rubs me the wrong way. This tendency in some fanworks to make her do morally dubious choices in the name of science when like... the amalgamates were an accident she didn't see coming?
Every time I find out someone or multiple someones on a popular Undertale fanwork are transphobic, it's like.
What are you even doing here? ._. It's Undertale.
Frisk is not canonically Toriel's child and I'm tired of people acting like this is indisputable canon. You can CHOOSE to have Frisk call her mom, and choose to have Frisk stay with her, but these are choices, and places to go is just as valid. Frisk doesn't have to be a Dreemurr
I hate when people generalize Undertale AUs as being all bad or all Sans OCs and stuff because the fandom is massive and there's a lot of creativity, and even the "cringy" AUs are just kids having fun a lot of the time. AU is not synonymous with trash. Look harder.
Kris changes between doctor and nurse outfits when using Take Care. More evidence toward nonbinary Kris. Neither job is gendered inherently but there are associations people have.
@nowviis
Fun fact: Akechi's confidant in Royal is programmed identically to the romance options for its 2/2 flags internally. It even has the "I should think carefully" prompt.
Also, Tactica confirms he's bi, so that's awesome, at least. Still shoulda had m/m options from the start, tho.
Undertale role swap AU where Gerson is Sans and when you get to the last corridor, instead of a fight, you find the door leading toward the throne entrance instead leads into a shop interface. You cannot progress past this point.
I love Asgore, but it occurs to me that he has a pretty big problem of placing responsibility on kids of indeterminate age in Undertale. The whole "you are the future of humans and monsters" thing with Chara and asking Frisk to be ambassador. Das a lot, my dude.
The prevalence of "the Void" as a concept in Undertale fanworks fascinates me because it's never once mentioned in Undertale. The Gaster followers never mention it. Neither do the Goner NPCs. It just kinda happened and got taken at face value.
Honestly, thinking more on it, while I definitely enjoy Undertale Yellow and think it's a solid showing of fan passion, it does kinda bother me that there's this like... push for it to be treated as canon and this be applicable to other AUs and fanworks as an extension to those
Every time people use rosy cheeks to argue Chara's gender is female, I just wanna post this image. xD ALL of the kids in Earthbound have blushy cheeks, and Toby was very inspired by the Mother series. Blush =/= girl and Chara's only described with they and it.
I also appreciate that he's... totally cool with girls being gamers? The prospect of Queen or Susie not being "real gamers" due to being girls is never a thing. Basically, I think it's less sexism on his part and more... him being REALLY weird about dating due to consuming media.
As much as I love Undertale and Deltarune, I really don't like predestination as a trope, so I really hope Deltarune does something to turn the prophecy on its head.
The whole comment Toriel makes about Kris' bathroom habits and how it just happens sometimes... it feels like she doesn't know how to confront Kris' mental health struggles because Asriel wasn't like that. Asriel seems way happier and more successful.
One of the funniest things to me is when people make up batshit "moral" reasons to dislike popular ships like "Sans is Toriel's adoptive child" and "shipping Huntlow is acephobic" when they can just... dislike a ship. You literally do not need some grand moral excuse.
I think Toriel and Asgore are used to kids being happy and don't understand when their love isn't enough. It shows with Undertale, too. Toriel thinks the way she treats Frisk will be enough for them to stay. She has difficulty understanding their perspective.
I think the Undertale fandom would be a better place if people stopped trying to "win" the Chara morality debate and accept that this is a character that people have their favored interpretations with and just leave each other alone.
Hey, just a small fandom PSA, but while Undertale Yellow is a popular game, PLEASE do not assume that every fanwork's yellow human is Clover. For as wonderful of a fan project as UTY is, Clover is not the only valid interpretation, nor are they an official one.
Really wish people would stop treating "choices don't matter" as the theme of Deltarune when it's just a single line of dialogue from Susie that is challenged repeatedly throughout the game. Things do change based on choices. One ending is not the same thing.
More Undertale musing, but I think it'd be refreshing to see a fanwork explore Toriel maybe not being the super perfect mom she's often depicted as and maybe even exploring her working through her own issues before she can be a mom again.
I think it's really funny how in most fanworks Muffet is portrayed as a little eccentric but overall pretty nice, because I feel like if her no mercy dialogue was more known, we'd see darker takes on her character.
Regrets not eating Alphys, does not give a shit when people die.
A big reason that Kris can't be the Roaring Knight is that Ralsei doesn't notice Cyberworld's fountain until AFTER school ends that day. He was not on Kris' person when Kris and Susie entered cyberworld. He came very soon after after noticing a dark presence.
I need to process that beautiful work of art we all just witnessed...
But I must say. If there is one thing I learned from all of this.
Kris Deltarune is like. *Cool*. I did not expect them to be this cool. Rad.
It's possible Chara was never formally adopted, which might be the happier interpretation, but then there's the question- did she come to learn of the buttercup plan and simply doesn't view them as fondly?
It reads to me as, "if I am a good mother, my children will be happy." She and Asgore in Undertale never caught onto the buttercup plan and that's probably because the idea of a child being that fundamentally broken is inconceivable to them.
Like, kid probably got all his ideas about romance from video games and anime. He NEEDS to tone it down and respect Susie's agency, but at the very least, I'm glad he didn't force the kiss on her. He dropped the subject p. fast.
You know, I'm surprised it's Frisk who's most commonly headcanoned as nonverbal and not Chara, because while Chara has onscreen dialogue, we never hear a voice blip with them and during the tapes, their dialogue is not shown, whereas Frisk can sing, scream, cry, etc. 1/2
All the homophobic Undertale discourse reminds me that there was, legit, someone who tried to hide their homophobia surrounding Alphyne with "their personalities clash and they would be bad for each other" before coming out and saying religion was the real reason. xP
I think it also shows with how Asgore tries to encourage spending time with Kris and having a good time all that without stepping back to ask, "Are you okay?" but ALSO how Kris INSISTS they are normal to Alphys. I think that's... really worrying?
It's in the little things, too, like how Toriel gets frustrated when Kris flushes bath bombs down the toilet but doesn't seem to do much else. She seems kind of resigned to Kris' antics, and while she does ask Alphys if they're doing okay, she seems at a loss for how to treat 'em
It's strongly implied in Deltarune Chapter 2 that Pizzapants' "girlfriend" is just Bratty trolling him by taking pictures from the weird Ice-E pin-up magazines. Brutal. xD
Sometimes I sit down and think about how months - years after release, people still discovered new things about Undertale, like standing still in the CORE until the path just... opens. That was so wild.
Ngl, it bugs me whenever a kids' property gains a wide adult demographic and happens to contain dark themes that adult fans jump to, "Is this REALLY for kids?!"
Like... let kids have cool, dark, and complex things. It's okay to enjoy kids' and family media as an adult.
@TSlagel999
IIRC after one of the dads used he Toby immediately used they in a sentence (at least one time repeating a similar one as the dads). It's just a soft, polite correction, but it's Toby using they all the same.
You know, I think part of the reason people tend to hate on morally grey/ambiguous characters who're victims might be because they force you to accept that people who are hurt can be pushed to extremes in desperation and that even good people can be pushed to a breaking point.
@paintedhen
My first thought was Dave Strider, because I think some of the flashes do draw him in more detail? Disclaimer: Haven't read Homestuck since like... ages ago. I think the last thing I remember was the auto responder talking about female troll anatomy.
We need more Undertale fanworks that don't make Sans into some kinda badass hero. Undyne is a badass hero. Papyrus is heroic in his own right. Sans... he's a cool character, but waiting until the absolute last minute, when everything's gone to hell, does not a hero make.
Conservatives screaming
#BoycottDisney
because they somehow equate the existence of LGBT+ people as more sexual than the heterosexual romance crammed into most's children's media. It was never about "sex-ed". Some kids have two moms and dads or nonbinary parents. Deal with it.
Don't upgrade to Clip Studio Paint 2. They are refusing refunds to people if their program reverts to trial after being offline for too long. This is unacceptable.
The whole power imbalance between Lightners and Darkners got me realizing... Like, I think that's probably why Berdly being frozen is treated as such a huge deal. The Darkners you freeze are files on computers. Berdly is a "real" person.
And that's kinda messed up.
Just went over the NPCs from Undertale to see how many wear shoes. It's... actually more than I expected. In this tweet, for no reason other than curiosity, I shall now go over npcs in Undertale that wear shoes. ...Just because.
After months of work, my 42 minute character analysis of Alphys is now complete! It'd mean so much to me if you could share it around, like, comment, etc, so it performs well in the algorithm. I cover just about EVERYTHING here in both UT and DR.
....side note: I just saw a comment saying it's inhumane and unjust to make Asriel the villain in Inverted Fate due to his innocence and I just.
...did we play the same Undertale? O_o Very strange.
Seeing Owl House fans use Steven Universe as a punching bag is really fucked up because it boils down all of SU down to "haha Steven not killing bad guys" (he literally tried to kill White Diamond in future), and also... Steven Universe was PIVOTAL for queer rep in kid shows. :/
It looks like they are actually asking for mod mail, so I might contact them politely and see if I can explain things. I do understand being overwhelmed by discourse, but it's a bit off-putting looking in on the post and seeing that sorta thing. I DON'T condone harassment tho.
One of my biggest Undertale pet peeves is Asriel being killed by arrows. There is some GORGEOUS art with that, but they had video cameras and VHS before he was born and Chara fell in 201X. xD; So it just kinda frustrates me because I'm a stickler for that kinda consistency, haha.
People who say Alphys couldn't have written the true lab entries because she doesn't write in proper grammar even though her letter exists with proper grammar. Now we have this. And the Gaster valentine. Checkmate, atheists.
